틸팅차량 전기장치 측정시스템 개발 (A Study on Measurement System Development for Electric Equipments of Tilting Train Express)

  • In this paper, we studied for the measurement system for on-line testing and evaluation of tilting train express(TTX). The measurement system is installed in each train for the performance measurement during the test run. It is composed of software part, hardware part and can measure various signals such as velocity, voltage, temperature. The software controls the hardware of the measurement system, performs the analysis and calculation of measurement data and acts as interface between users and the system hardware. The hardware is consisted of 7 DAMs(Data Acquisition Modules) and 6 monitoring modules.

  • Tilting trains are now an established feature of railway operations throughout the world. For intercity traffic, tilt provides operators with increasing speeds, and therefore enhanced competitiveness, on existing routes where insufficient traffic or a lack of funds precludes the construction of a dedicated new high-speed railway. Appling the tilting train, we can expect 30% of speed up on existing lines, but the stability of the electric current would be low because of tilting the train. Also, the spark between the catenary and pantagraph cause environmental problems such as noise, radio wave malfunction. Therefore, the tilting on pantagraph for the power suppling device is very essential for stable electric power supply.

  • TTX(Tilting Train Express), which has improved traveling performance on curved track, is being designed in cope with future railway circumstance. Nowadays, in the world, many efforts are focussed on railway safety. Especially, a variety of researches on train crashworthiness have been conducted. As a part of these efforts, some equipments on TTX are designed to reduce fatalities and casualties in crash accidents. This paper introduces impact energy absorbtion characteristics on the initial design of the front end structure. Some comments are made briefly for improvement of initial structural design and future following researches.

  • Tilting train can pass curve at higher speed without affecting passenger comfort by tilting Carbody. But the centrifugal force proportional to square of velocity increases the track lateral force. This is the one of the problems to be solved when applying tilting train. The one countermeasure we selected the light weight design by applying distributed traction EMU system and light weight materials such as FRP. The other countermeasure was to adopt steering bogie concept in order to reduce the guiding force on Curve track. This paper describes the design study of self steering mechanism applied to the Bogie for 180 km/h Korean Tilting Train(TTX), which was done as a part of the Korean National R&D project.

  • In order to improve the speed of railway, several parameters and/or technical issues, which are affecting speed improvement negatively, need to be considered in addition to the enhancement of physical performance of the railway system such as maximum speed, speed at curve, and speed at turnout track. The parameters under complicated situation of railway system are from the areas of rolling stocks, track, power system, signalling, etc. In general, two different aspects of technical issues can be evaluated; Technical issues in the hardware aspect and technical issues in the software aspect. The hardware parameters include running performance, braking performance, and power performance, while the software factors are rules, regulations, and riding quality. In this investigation, a comparison study between hardware and software aspects in technical issues was conducted to provide technical information on the amendment of railway speed-up regulations.

  • After the development of practical technology for tilting system, tilting trains are operated on conventional lines of KORAIL. As the running speed of trains is increased, it is very important to investigate the dynamic characteristics of plate girder bridges with direct track fixation. Therefore, this paper reviews the dynamic interactions between tilting train and welded plate girder bridges designed by L-22, a standard load type of KORAIL. The span lengths of plate girder analyzed here are 6.6m, 9.7m, 12.9m, 16.0m, 19.2m, 22.3m, 25.4m and 31.1m. Using 2-D dynamic analysis, the critical velocity of tilting train, vertical deflection ratios of plate girder and maximum accelerations of car body are calculated. And the analytical results are compared with those of design criteria.

  • As the high speed rail to be opened at 2004, the. railroad will dominate over the transportation market in the Seoul-Busan corridor compared to road transport. But, it is obvious that the LOS(level of service) of railroad at 2004 will be worse in the areas that are not served KTX. For the speed-up of conventional line, it is a worldwide trend that tilting trains are served on the conventional railway line. That is the reason serving tilting trains is very efficient to use existing facilities and improve cruise time when capacity is available. In this paper, we suggest 10 routes are replaced with present operating trains(saemaeul, mugunghwa) by the tilting train.

  • In this study, mode II interlaminar fracture phenomena of carbon fabric/epoxy composite for tilting train were investigated. The end notched flexural specimen containing an artificial crack with the thickness of 12.5fl11l was used. The mode II interlaminar fracture toughness was evaluated through a three point bending test and the fractured surfaces were examined through a scanning electron microscope. The experimental results obtained in this study would be applicable in the design and structural analysis of the composite structures.

  • Fatigue fracture behavior of a hybrid joint between side-panel and under-frame by riveting and adhesive bonding has been evaluated. Two kinds of joint specimens based on real geometry were fabricated for shearing test as well as bending test. Static and cyclic loadings were used for fatigue assessment. Fatigue fracture results obtained by such experiments were reflected in modifications of design parameters of the hybrid joint.
