Design of Metal-Slit Fresnel Lens for Enhanced Coupling Efficiency (광 결합 및 집속도 향상을 위한 금속 슬릿 프레넬 렌즈의 설계)

  • Recently, much research has been done for to realizeing nano-scale photonic circuits based on photonic crystal, plasmonics and silicon photonics in order to overcome fundamental limits of electronic circuits. These limits include such as bottleneck of speed, and size that cannot be reduced. Even though several kinds of coupling schemes have been reported, coupling structures are still large when it is compared with the nano-scale optical circuit. In this paper, we proposed using a very thin Fresnel lens while shortening the focal length of the Fresnel lens as much as possible. We proposed, for the first time, to utilize metal slits that are able to use the optical coupling system between a nano-scale optical circuit and the standard single mode optical fiber for overcoming the limitation of focal length shortening of the Fresnel lens. Comparative study has been carried out with a FDTD simulation between normal and metal slit assisted Fresnel lens. From the result of simulation, we can achieve 65% coupling efficiency for the metal-slit Fresnel lens when the focal length of metal-slit Fresnel lens is just $4{\mu}m$. On the other hand, the coupling efficiency of the normal Fresnel lens is about 43%.

Changes of Physicochemical and Sensory Characteristics of Korean Pickled Cucumber with Different Preparation Methods (담금 방법을 달리한 오이지의 숙성 중 특성 변화)

  • This study was investigate to see the effects of preparation methods on the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of cucumber preserved with salt. The preparation methods were brining the cucumbers in 10 % NaCl solution (boiled, method A), 205 NaCl solution (boiled, method B) an d20 % NaCl solution (cool to $25^{\circ}C$ after boiling, method C). The cucumber preserved with boiled solution and high salt concentration showed slow fermentation rate. The rate of salt penetration during brining of cucumber preserved with salt increased. The green value of cucumber preserved with salt by method B was lower than by method A and C. The cutting force of cucumber preserved with walt measured by texture analyzer showed a rapid increasing rate during initial brining periods. As a result of the sensory evaluation for cucumber preserved with salt, there were significant differences in most of characteristics between the samples at 5% level. The cucumber preserved with salt in boiled 10% NaCl solution (method A) showed the highest scores in most of the characteristics.

Degradation of Natural Dyed Silk Fabrics under Ultraviolet Light(UV) -Focused on Gardenia and Sappanwood- (자외선에 의한 천연 염색 견직물의 취화 연구 -치자, 소목 염색을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the degradation of silk fabrics dyed with gardenia and sappanwood by Ultraviolet Light(UV). To asses the effect of uv on dyed silk fabrics, physical and chemical properties of samples were explored. K/S value rapidly decreased with increasing exposure time. Mordanting improved ultraviolet-cut ability and the sappanwood dyed samples were superior to those of gardenia dyed in ultraviolet-cut ability. Color progressively faded away as uv exposure time increased, accordingly, $L^*,\;a^*,\;b^*$, H/VC, ${\Delta}E$ were changed. Morphological change observed with SEM represented degradation of silk fabrics from the outer fibril to the inner fibril. Tensile Strength abruptly decreased as uv exposure time increased and the mordanted samples showed higher tensile strength than the unmordanted. FT-IR analysis confirmed that main peaks at 3297 and $1704cm^{-1}$ band for silk fabric were due to N-H and C=O stretching, gardenia peaks at 1654 and $668cm^{-1}$ band representing C=O(ester), C=C(alken) and O-C=O(carboxylic acids) of crocin and sappanwood peaks at $1715cm^{-1}$ band representing C=O(cyclic keton) of brazilin appeared on the samples exposed for 14 days, but these peaks indicating colorants after 28 days of uv exposure faded away due to prolonged exposure of uv.

Tencel Dyeing by Natural Indigo Prepared from Dyer's Knotweed (천연인디고를 이용한 텐셀직물의 염색)

  • Natural indigo dye in powder form was prepared by modifying traditional Niram method, using $Ca(OH)_2$ instead of baked oyster powder for precipitating indigo dye. The prepared dye was applied to dyeing Tencel fabrics to investigate the effect of experimental conditions for the optimization of dyeing process. The indigo dye powder contained 15.2%(w/w) of indigo content and 0.757%(w/w) of indirubin content on the basis of HPLC analysis. Maximum dye uptake was obtained at $60^{\circ}C$ for 20min. Almost saturated dye uptake was obtained at 2g/L of sodium hydrosulfite concentration up to 4g/L of indigo dye and then slowly increased for further increase of sodium hydrosulfite. Whereas at higher indigo dye concentration(8g/L) more than 3g/L of reducing agent concentration was required for obtaining the maximum dye uptake. At the same indigo dye and reducing agent concentration, K/S value of the sample dyed without sodium hydroxide(pH 5.75) was 15.19, much higher than one dyed in alkaline condition(K/S 5.76). There was no difference in colorfastness ratings among samples with different color strength. However, more fading was occurred for the sample with low color strength.

  • In Feb., 1990 an epizootic disease to masu salmon fry, Oncorhynchus masou cultured at the hatchery of rainbow trout in Samchok, Kwangwon-do have broken out and induced high mortality over 70%. Externally, the diseased fish showed dark discoloration, abdominal distension with ascites, slight exophthalmus and fecal casts. Internally, the gill and the liver of diseased fish were edematous and pale, and the stomach of moribund fish contained the milkish fluid. Microscopically there was extensive necrosis of the hematopoietic tissue in kidney and spleen, and scattered necrosis of pancreas, liver and lateral muscle. Especially, the necrosis of lamina propria, muscle layer and tela submucosa in the digestive tract known as the typical signs associated with infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus was seen clearly.

Occurrence of White Smut Caused by Entyloma cosmi on Cosmos bipinnatus in Korea (Entyloma cosmi에 의한 코스모스 흰깜부기병 발생)

  • In July 2011, hundreds of garden cosmos (Cosmos bipinnatus) were found to be infected with a white smut in Namyangju. Further surveys in central Korea showed that the disease occurred in all the nine localities visited, with disease incidence rate of >50%. Symptoms manifested as pale-green to chlorotic areas on the leaves, followed by white mildew development on lesions. The lesions usually coalesced and became necrotic, considerably reducing the aesthetic value. Caespituli were initially hypophyllous but later epiphyllous as well. Conidiophores were 10-40 in moderately dense fascicles, hyaline throughout, mostly guttulate, $20-45{\times}2-4{\mu}m$, obtuse at the apex, and had inconspicuous conidial scars. Conidia were solitary, botuliform, hyaline, aseptate, mostly guttulate, apex rounded, base rounded to truncate, $17-24{\times}3.5-5{\mu}m$, hilum inconspicuous, unthickened, and not darkened. Sori were rounded to elongated, resulting in first white and later brown leaf spots. Teliospores embedded in the leaf tissue were subglobose to ellipsoidal, subhyaline to pale yellowish-brown, $12.5-20{\times}10-15{\mu}m$. These morphological characteristics corresponded with those of Entyloma cosmi V$\acute{a}$nky, Horita & Jage. This is the first report of white smut disease of garden cosmos due to infection of E. cosmi in Korea.

A Study on Extraction and Analysis of Red Dyed Fabric (적색 염직물의 색소 추출 방법 및 분석연구)

  • A fabric excavated from tombs or passed down is not easy to find its original color as it degrades and discolors by UV and visible rays, oxygen and microorganisms. LC-MS analysis is commonly used for separating and analyzing colors, but color extraction process is complicated and important in dye-qualitative analysis. To extract red colors from a fabric which is dyed with safflower and lac, solvents; hydrogen chloride, pyridine and oxalic acid are used and oxalic acid was the most effective solvent. Meanwhile, dyed samples were put in degradation condition; UV-A for 168 hours and analyzed with LC-MS to find out its colors'chemical changes. As a result, carthamin is detected in $T_R$ 13 min and laccaic acid A is detected in $T_R$ 10 min. However carthamin is not detected in a degraded fabric dying with safflower, it could be identified as a safflower fabric by the molecular weight of m/z 931. Through this study the most optimal method for red color extraction is found so it is expected to be used as a base line data for red color LC-MS analysis.

Effectiveness of an Environment-friendly Fumigator for Microorganisms that Can Cause Biological Damage to Records in Japan, Malaysia, and Oman (일본, 말레이시아, 오만의 기록물에서 분리한 유해미생물에 대한 친환경 기록물 소독장비 효과검증)

  • Archives have historical and academic values. That is why the study of preservation conditions and the environment for the effective management of various records progress. However, materials such as paper and adhesives will inevitably cause biological damages. These damages spread into the inner side of archives, which would make it impossible to recover. For example, archival records from Malaysia and Oman are easily exposed to biological damage because of these countries' hot and humid climate. As such, once records are damaged, disinfection operations are customary in these areas. Methyl bromide (MeBr) and ethylene oxide (EtO) were used in the disinfection process as they showed good insecticidal effect. However their antibacterial effect are negligible. As such, the need for an environmental-friendly fumigator was evident. An environmental-friendly fumigator is designed to improve storage stability. Such equipment is expected to contribute to prevention of damages to cultural heritages through its use of vaporization technology, maintenance of a disinfection space (chamber), and self-generation of nitrogen.

Production of fermented Omija (Schizandra chinensis) beverage fortified with high content of gamma-amino butyric acid using Lactobacillus plantarum (오미자(Schizandra chinensis) 열매 추출물의 Lactobacillus plantarum 젖산발효를 통한 고농도 GABA 함유 발효음료 제조)

  • Omija (Schizandra chinensis) extract (OE) was fermented by using Lactobacillus plantarum EJ2014 to produce a beverage fortified with gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). After 2 days of fermentation in the presence of 2% monosodium glutamate (MSG) and 0.5% yeast extract (YE), the four-fold-diluted OE showed a higher viable cell count ($2.2{\times}10^9CFU/mL$) and lower acidity (1.2%) than that of the unfermented OE. In particular, addition of MSG as a precursor resulted in a small increase in the initial pH. MSG (2%) was completely converted to GABA (0.92%) during lactic acid bacteria fermentation for 3 days. Furthermore, the acidity of the fermented OE decreased from 1.74% to 0.56%. In addition, the original red color of the OE disappeared during LAB fermentation. However, when the fermented OE was mixed with 50% of the original OE, the original red color was recovered, with 19.56 and 13.92 for Hunter L and a values, respectively. The mixture of 50% original OE and 50% fermented OE showed the highest sensory score including the highest overall preference. In conclusion, the OE fortified with GABA and probiotics was produced by fermentation with a static culture, L. plantarum EJ2014.

Identification of Pigment Separated from Cockle Shell (새조개 연체부위의 색소 동정)

  • Physicochemical characteristics of pigment separated from cockle shell were studied. Pigment on the cockle shell was peeled with distilled water, and soaked in 4% TCA solution for 30 minutes and filtered. Filtrate was washed 3 times with distilled water and Iyophilized. Dried pigment was dissolved with 2N NaOH solution and preparative TLC with 2N NaOH : acetone(1 : 1). UV/vis spectrum of pigment separated from cockle shell and melanin as standard was same one peak at UV area and λ$_{max}$was 226nm. Dissolved property of pigment was same as that of melanin. Pigment was not ommochrome but like melanin, because it was insoluble in formic acid, whitening in $H_2O_2, $ and pattern of UV-spectrum was same as melanin. Pigment separated from cockle shell was stable at high temperatures. In thermal treatment at $70^{\circ}C, $ $80^{\circ}C, $ $90^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours, retention ratio of pigment separated from cockle shell were 95.0%, 93.3%, 90.8% and 87.6%, respectively.
