Elastic Demand Stochastic User Equilibrium Assignment Based on a Dynamic System (동적체계기반 확률적 사용자균형 통행배정모형)

  • This paper presents an elastic demand stochastic user equilibrium traffic assignment that could not be easily tackled. The elastic demand coupled with a travel performance function is known to converge to a supply-demand equilibrium, where a stochastic user equilibrium (SUE) is obtained. SUE is the state in which all equivalent path costs are equal, and thus no user can reduce his perceived travel cost. The elastic demand SUE traffic assignment can be formulated based on a dynamic system, which is a means of describing how one state develops into another state over the course of time. Traditionally it has been used for control engineering, but it is also useful for transportation problems in that it can describe time-variant traffic movements. Through the Lyapunov Function Theorem, the author proves that the model has a stable solution and confirms it with a numerical example.

  • The study of Estimation model for the short-term travel time prediction. There is a different solution which has predicted the link travel time to solve this problem. By using this solution, the link travel time is predicted based on link conditions from time to time. The predicated link travel time is used to search the shortest path. Before providing a dynamic shortest path finding, the prediction model should be verified. To verify the prediction model, three models such as Kalman filtering, Stochastic Process, ARIMA. The ARIMA model should adjust optimal parameters according to the traffic conditions. It requires a frequent adjustment process of finding optimal parameters. As a result of these characteristics, It is difficult to use the ARIMA model as a prediction. Kalman Filtering model has a distinguished prediction capability. It is due to the modification of travel time predictive errors in the gaining matrix. As a result of these characteristics, the Kalman Filtering model is likely to have a non-accumulative errors in prediction. Stochastic Process model uses the historical patterns of travel time conditions on links. It if favorably comparable with the other models in the sense of the recurrent travel time condition prediction. As a result, for the travel time estimation, Kalman filtering model is the better estimation model for the short-term estimation, stochastic process is the better for the long-term estimation.

Effectiveness Analysis of Improved Passing Method Considering Traffic Pattern on Climbing Lane (오르막차로 통행방법 개선에 따른 효과분석)

  • This study started from the problem recognition of climbing lane installed in Korea roads. Because design standards of climbing lane installed don't match traffic pattern of korean drivers, coefficient of utilization of climbing lane is low and merging section between climbing lane and main lane has traffic accident possibilities. For this, brand-new design standards developed from the present lane design criterion, taper lenghs, and traffic signs, then field adoption test was carried out to prove the effectiveness. As a result, coefficient of utilization of climbing lane and average traffic velocity in climbing section are improved and the economic analysis also shows that brand-new standards has high feasibility for low cost. In case of broad application to not only expressway but national and local road based on the study, it could be a significant contribution to traffic flow improvement.

신호제어를 고려한 가로망 설계모형의 구축에 대한 연구

  • 가로망은 사회의 발전과 더불어 날로 늘어나고 있는 통행수요를 직접적으로 처리하게 되는 기반시설이다. 따라서 가로망의 구성과 운영은 심각하게 대두되고 있는 교통혼잡 등의 제반문제들을 해결하기 위해 기본적으로 고려되어야 한다. 이를 위해서 연구되어온 가로망 설계 모형들은 새로운 도로의 건설이나 기존 도로의 확장 등을 통해 가로망을 조정하여, 사용자들의 선택에 영향을 줌으로써 통행 흐름을 원활하게 하고자 한다. 이러한 가로망 설계 과정에서 사용자들에 의해서 초래된 통행비용의 개선과 이를 위해 사용된 투자비용 사이의 관계를 고려하여 적절한 대안을 선택하게 된다. 일반적으로 도시부의 경우, 차량들의 통행패턴은 가로망의 물리적 구성(기하구조, 용량 등)뿐만 아니라, 신호제어(주기, 녹색시간 등)에 의해서 결정된다. 그러므로 가로망 설계 모형에서 고려되는 사용자의 통행비용의 경우, 단순히 가로망의 통행시간 뿐만 아니라 신호제어에 의해서 부가되는 지체도 고려해야 하며, 이를 통해 가로망의 계획단계에서 중요하게 생각해야하는 요소의 하나인 차량의 이동성과 접근성의 부여도 가능하게 될 것이다. 즉, 이동성을 중요시하는 도로와 접근성을 위주로 하는 도로 각각의 기능에 부합하는 가로망 설계가 필요한 것이다. 위에서 언급한 것처럼 기존의 가로망 설계모형의 경우, 단순히 용량의 변화에 대한 링크 통행시간과 이로 인한 통행량의 변화만을 고려하고 있는 상황이다. 하지만, 도시부에서 실제 차량의 통행패턴은 단순히 도로의 기하학적 용량뿐만 아니라, 교차로에서의 신호제어에 의한 지체에도 상당한 영향을 받게 되며, 가로망 설계 모형에서 이를 반영할 수 있어야 한다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 이러한 신호제어의 영향들을 고려함으로써 가로망 설계 과정에서 가로망의 상반된 역할인 이동성과 접근성의 비교가 가능한 보다 현실적인 가로망 설계 모형을 구축하고자 한다. 지금까지 소개된 가로망 설계모형들은 용량변화에 대한 설계변수의 형태에 따라 이산적 가로망 설계 모형과 연속적 가로망 설계모형으로 나뉘어지게 된다. 본 논문의 경우, 계산속도의 향상 측면에서는 연속적 가로망 설계 모형을 도입할 수 있지만, 이때 요구되는 도로용량이 이산적인 변수(차선 수)로 결정되어야만 신호제어 변수를 결정할 수 있기 때문에, 이산적 가로망 설계 모형이 사용된다. 하지만, 이산적 설계모형의 경우 조합최적화 문제이므로 정확한 최적해를 구하기 위해서는 상당한 시간이 소요되며, 경우에 따라서는 국부 최적해에 빠지게 된다. 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해, 우선 이상적 모형의 근사화, 혹은 조합최적화문제를 위해 개발된 Simulated Annealing기법의 적용, 연속적 모형의 변수를 이산화하는 방법 등 다양한 모형들을 고려해 본 뒤, 적절한 모형을 적용할 것이다. 가로망 설계 모형에서 신호제어를 고려하기 위해서는 주어진 가로망에 대한 통행 배정과정에서 고려되는 통행시간을 링크통행시간과 교차로 지체시간을 동시에 고려해야 하는데, 이러한 문제의 해결을 위해서 최근 활발히 논의되고 있는 교차로에서의 신호제어에 대응하는 통행배정 모형을 도입하여 고려하고자 한다. 이를 위해서 지금까지 연구되어온 Global Solution Approach와 Iterative Approach를 비교, 검토한 뒤 모형에 보다 알맞은 방법을 선택한다. 차량의 교차로 통행을 고려하는 performance function의 경우 비신호 교차로와 신호교차로에 대한 적절한 비교가 현재로서는 고려되고 있지 못하기 때문에, 구성되는 가로망의 경우 신호교차로들로만 구성되며, 부득이한 경우 입체교차의 형태로 구성되는 것으로 가정한다. 실제 가로망의 경우, 교통향이 많은 도시부의 경우 주가로망은 대부분 신호교차로와 입체교차로 구성되기 때문에 가능할 것으로 생각된다. 기존의 신호제어 모형과 가로망 설계모형을 결합하여 통합된 가로망 설계모형의 구축하기 위해, 기존의 연구결과들을 종합하여 보다 적절한 모형을 선택하고, 개선하며, 이의 적용성을 시험하기 위해서, 가상 가로망을 구성하여 모형의 적용 결과를 분석한다.

Inter-city Flight Connectivity and Polycentricity in the Yeongnam Region (영남권 도시 간 화물 연계성과 다중심성)

  • This paper reviews literature on urban connectivity, and reconsiders the concept of polycentric urban region and its analysis methods, and then, applying them, explores the inter-city flight connectivity and polycentricity in the Yeongnam Region. As results of analysis, it has been identified that the entropy index shows a relatively dispersing pattern of the urban network of the region, and that the dominance index reveals a more polycentric (that is, less hierarchic) character of the region than that of the Capital Region, while some differences are found among individual cities in the symmetry of connectivity and the dominance and/or dependence index. Even though flows of products in textile, basic metals, and automobile industries in sub-divisions of manufacture appear a pattern of concentring into the first central city, the urban network of the Yeongnam Region in general can be characterized as a polycentrism, and policy for polycentric regional development would be suggested.

  • In Korea, the ITS project has been progressed to improve traffic mobility and safety. Further, it is to relieve traffic jam by supply real time travel information for drivers and to promote traffic convenience and safety. It is important that the traffic information is provided accurately. This study was conducted outlier elimination and missing data adjustment to improve accuracy of raw data. A method for raise reliability of travel time prediction information was presented. We developed Historical Profile model and adjustment formula to reflect quality of interrupted flow. We predicted travel time by developed Historical Profile model and adjustment formula and verified by comparison between developed model and existing model such as Neural Network model and Kalman Filter model. The results of comparative analysis clarified that developed model and Karlman Filter model similarity predicted in general situation but developed model was more accurate than other models in incident situation.

A Study on the Visiting Areas Classification of Cargo Vehicles Using Dynamic Clustering Method (화물차량의 방문시설 공간설정 방법론 연구)

  • This study aims to improve understanding of freight movement, crucial for logistics facility investment and policy making. It addresses the limitations of traditional freight truck traffic data, aggregated only at city and county levels, by developing a new methodology. This method uses trip chain data for more detailed, facility-level analysis of freight truck movements. It employs DTG (Digital Tachograph) data to identify individual truck visit locations and creates H3 system-based polygons to represent these visits spatially. The study also involves an algorithm to dynamically determine the optimal spatial resolution of these polygons. Tested nationally, the approach resulted in polygons with 81.26% spatial fit and 14.8% error rate, offering insights into freight characteristics and enabling clustering based on traffic chain characteristics of freight trucks and visited facility types.

  • A signal plan focused on vehicle traffic could easily overlook vulnerable priority signals, although the importance of vulnerable movements is increasingly recognized in recent years. Especially, the vulnerable are sometimes faced with dangerous situations when crossing roads with a signal plan based on design values of average, non-vulnerable persons. This study is focused on how to minimize the vehicle delay while simultaneously considering traffic flow and providing traffic safety by increasing road crossing time for pedestrians. For this purpose, a priority signal control strategy for the vulnerable, considering vehicle traffic flow, has been tested. Practical implication and a microscopic computer simulation has shown that the proposed method could provide a small decrease (about 6.2%) in pedestrian delay, a small increase (about 8.5~13.3%) in travel speed of passing traffic, and a considerable decrease (16.2~26.9%) in vehicle travel time. These findings suggest that the proposed signal control strategy could increase pedestrian safety and diminish delay of vehicle travel.

  • Environmental issues resulting from climate change and energy crises have become global issues, and cycling has gained greater popularity for sustainable transportation. Though many cities are trying to build bicycle roads, it is not easy to implement bicycle roads because there is little available space for bicycle facilities. Therefore, road diets have become more popular in Korea. However, there has been no intensive research to date of their impacts. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effects of road diets and construction of bike lanes. Every benefit, including energy benefit, environmental benefit, and health benefit is considered, while only time savings benefit has been considered in previous studies. The benefit analysis for the Seoul metropolitan area as a case study shows that road diets have a (1) time saving benefit for only five percent of the mode share and (2) enough total benefit even if bicycle mode share is less than two percent.
