  • Purpose: This study was done to develop the multidimensional scale of addictive behavior for adolescents. Methods: The process involved construction of a conceptual framework, initial items, verification of content validity, selection of secondary items, and extraction of final items. The participants were 636 adolescents in six middle schools and four high schools. Results: Seventy items were selected for the final scale, and categorized 8 factors explaining 56.5% of total variance. The factors were labeled as game addictive behavior, shopping addictive behavior, mobile phone addictive behavior, nicotine addictive behavior, television addictive behavior, gambling addictive behavior, alcohol addictive behavior, and internet addictive behavior. The scores for the scale were significantly correlated with addictive personality and self-control. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the 70 items was .94. Scale scores identified adolescents as addictive behavior group, risk group, and average group. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that the multidimensional scale of addictive behavior for adolescents has good validity and reliability when used with adolescents. More importantly, it provides the first step toward developing a addiction prevention program. Additionally the scales provide an education or guideline, and proper physical and mental health management of youth in research and practice for the promotion of education.

  • Along with its expertise and yearning for freedom, Science has been seduced from Society. Coupled with societal uncertainty and complexity, the Science has faced the difficulty of solving societal issues and recognized its limitation on the control of quality it has kept. This leads to yield its way for opening up the societal participation. With this situation in mind, this paper explores the ways of societal participation on science based on previous studies but limited to evaluation. While the classical evaluation on science is conducted by only experts and not opened to the public, both the participatory and deliberative evaluation on science are open to the public and fitted to this research subject. Both evaluations are in common to expand its involvement to the broader stakeholder than classical one, but have discrepancy in the perspective of evaluands, evaluation methology applied, scope of participants and role of mediators. Along with the main obstacles such as political acceptance, representative of participants, competency of mediators, epistemic limitation and institutional path-dependency, this paper articulates the ways to implement both evaluations. Last but not least, this paper puts an importance on various and consequent research activities on this domain, reorganizing societal system and weighting efforts.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare between two-parent and single-parent families the relationship between perceived parental monitoring/affection and adolescent offline/online delinquency. we analyzed 1,812 cases of high school students (1,628 cases of two-parent families and 184 cases of single-parent families) using the $4^{th}$-and $5^{th}$-year data from the 'Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey'. We used structural equation modeling to understand the correlation between variables, and conducted multi-group analysis to confirm the distinction between family structures. The results of the study were as follows. First, perceived parental monitoring influenced offline adolescent delinquency only among two parent families, while perceived parental affection did not influence either family type. Second, perceived parental affection influenced online adolescent delinquency only among single-parent families, and the path also had a greater negative effect than two-parent families. In the case of perceived parental monitoring, it did not influence online adolescent delinquency regardless of family type, but the path had a greater negative effect on two-parent families than single-parent families. Based on these results-, more concrete social-welfare practical and political implications about adolescent delinquency proposed.

  • This study empirically examines the effects of after-school self-care on children's development. More specifically, we examine whether the level of after-school self-care experiences that a child had during the 4 to 6 grade period affects the levels of school achievement, internalizing problem behaviors, externalizing problem behaviors, and delinquent behaviors during the child's middle school years. The study utilized the data from the Korea Welfare Panel Study's 1st and 4th year child supplementary surveys. The results show that the level of after-school self-care experiences negatively affects children's school achievement and internalizing problem behaviors. The study finds that, as the level of after-school self-care experiences increase, school achievement decreases and internalizing problem behaviors increase. The effects of after-school self-care on school achievement and internalizing behaviors were statistically significant even after controlling for the other variables that are known to be important factors on child development including child, parent, and family characteristics. The findings suggest that there is an independent effect of the level of after-school self-care on school achievement and internalizing problem behaviors. We also provide policy implications of the study. The policy considerations for latchkey children should include not only increasing the quantity of after-school programs, but also paying attention to the need of child development support programs beyond basic protection and care.

  • The Korea-USA FTA was activated in 2012 and evaluated highly on market-opening among FTA agreements which the Korea government has signed. This paper empirically examines the impact of the Korea-USA FTA on the Korea content industry trade performance with USA. Using ANOVA analysis, the study tested primarily whether there are difference in content exports and imports in a korea-US trade between before and after of Korea-USA FTA in 2012, the year of the entry into force of Korea-USA FTA. Using content industry exports and import data over the period 2007-2015, we find that Korea content export to US after 2012 is significantly different from one before 2012, and there is no difference in import. Based on a regression analysis, we also tested the impact size of Korea content export performance in Korea-USA FTA. The result is that coefficient of FTA dummy variable is not significant, meaning that even though there are some difference in korea content export to US between before and after of Korea-USA FTA, the Korea-USA FTA agreement itself is not a key factor which increase the Korea content export volume to USA market.

  • This study examined the overall effect size of the batterer intervention programs aimed at reducing violent behavior. This study calculated the 18 results and the 115 effect sizes of 11 theses published from 2000 to 2017 in Korea. It was demonstrated that the effect of an offender's program on the change in violent behavior was significant at both the practical and treatment level. The effect size was high in the order of control behavior, emotional violence, and physical violence. The effects of dependent variables other than violence were also researched. The batterer program positively changed the participant's attitudes in terms of sex-role and partner violence. Furthermore, it decreased the level of anger and depression, and enhanced self-esteem and communication skills thus increasing satisfaction in marital relationships. In addition, this study examined the factors that influence the effect of the offender's program in terms of the decrease of violent behavior. Upon analysis, it was examined that the moderating effect was great in the approach model and counsel form. More specifically, it was revealed that the feminist-cognitive behavioral models had a greater effect than the compromise model or single model. In terms of counsel forms, group counseling formed only of male offenders had greater effect than couples treatment group. Based on these findings, this study discussed the practical means for increasing the effect of batterer intervention programs.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the employment policy for persons with disabilities on their employment rates. The subjects were 10 OECD counties of which policies are based on quotas or the prohibition of discrimination. The time-series data for the analysis were collected for 12 years from 2000 to 2011. A Panel-Corrected Standard Error(PCSE) analysis was conducted for the time-series cross-sectional data of this study. As a result, unemployment rates, proportions of persons with disabilities, and public expenditures on disability and sickness benefits(in % GDP) were statistically significant among control variables, while the coverages of discrimination prohibition and the types of delivery systems of vocational rehabilitation for persons with disabilities among the employment policy variables. The wider the coverages of discrimination prohibition are, the higher the employment rates of the disabled are. In addition, the employment rates of the disabled are higher in countries with specialized delivery systems for vocational rehabilitation than in countries with general delivery systems for vocational rehabilitation.

  • To respond to the threat of Long range artillery of North Korea, it is necessary to establish the Korean counter long range artillery intercept system(CLRAIS). The purpose of this study is to study the operational concept of the CLRAIS against the threat of long range artillery of North Korea, and to develop the operational effectiveness process of the CLRAIS. First, we set up the operating concept of the CLRAIS and established the concept of an effectiveness in a many-to-many engagement situation and a process to derive it. Based on this, a tool was developed to analyze the actual effectiveness. In order to find out the factors influencing the effectiveness in many-to-many engagement situations, simulation experiments were performed by combining various variables such as detection assets, engagement control, and launchpad performance. As a result, it was found that in addition to the missile performance, the performance of the detection assets and the engagement control center had a significant impact on the intercept rate and the defense success rate. These findings can be used to understand important indicators in terms of effectiveness in many-to-many engagement situations in the future development of weapon system, and to determine the development direction and target value of each element necessary for the level of defense success rate to be achieved.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine how female labor force participation, family policies, and gender equality are related to fertility rate across countries. Multiple measures has been collected from various data sources(such as OECD, UNDP, and WVS) and the panel data set which includes (mostly) OECD countries range from 1990 to 2019 are analyzed. The major findings are as follows. First, based on OECD countries samples, female labor force participation is positively associated with the fertility rate, which implies that women's labor force participation does not lead to a reduction in fertility rate. Second, the length of paternity leave is positively associated with fertility rate whereas the direction is the opposite for the relationship between the length of maternity leave and fertility rate. This is attributed to the possibility that a longer period of maternity leave incurs the a higher opportunity cost of earning income, which leads to a reduced fertility rate. Third, countries with higher gender inequality index tend to have a higher fertility rate. Similarly, countries with higher gender equality value have a lower fertility rate. When the gender equality value is devideed into three sub-categories, education, politics, and employment, the gender equality value in education is the only sub-category which is negatively associated with the fertility rate. This study confirms that female labor force participation may not be a contributing factor in the lowering of fertility rate but instead can be positively associated with the fertility rate. Also, the results show that family policies or gender equality values can be significantly affect fertility rate.
