Design of the DC-DC Buck Converter for Mobile Application Using PWM/PFM Mode (PWM/PFM 모드를 이용한 모바일용 벅 변환기 설계)

  • This paper presents a high efficiency DC-DC buck converter for mobile device. The circuit employes simplified compensation circuit for its portability and for high efficiency at stand-by mode. This device operates at PFM mode when it enters stand-by mode(light load). In order to place the compensation circuit on chip, the capacitor multiplier method is employed, such that it can minimize the compensation block size of the error amplifier down to 30%. The measurement results show that the buck converter provides a peak efficiency of 93% on PWM mode, and 92.3% on PFM mode. The converter has been fabricated with a $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The input voltage of the buck converter ranges from 2.5V to 3.3V and it generates the output of 3.3V.

Development of Tracking Equipment for Real­Time Multiple Face Detection (실시간 복합 얼굴 검출을 위한 추적 장치 개발)

  • This paper presents a multiple face detector based on a robust pupil detection technique. The pupil detector uses active illumination that exploits the retro­reflectivity property of eyes to facilitate detection. The detection range of this method is appropriate for interactive desktop and kiosk applications. Once the location of the pupil candidates are computed, the candidates are filtered and grouped into pairs that correspond to faces using heuristic rules. To demonstrate the robustness of the face detection technique, a dual mode face tracker was developed, which is initialized with the most salient detected face. Recursive estimators are used to guarantee the stability of the process and combine the measurements from the multi­face detector and a feature correlation tracker. The estimated position of the face is used to control a pan­tilt servo mechanism in real­time, that moves the camera to keep the tracked face always centered in the image.

Analyzing Fine-Grained Resource Utilization for Efficient GPU Workload Allocation (GPU 작업 배치의 효율화를 위한 자원 이용률 상세 분석)

  • Recently, GPU expands application domains from graphic processing to various kinds of parallel workloads. However, current GPU systems focus on the maximization of each workload's parallelism through simplified control rather than considering various workload characteristics. This paper classifies the resource usage characteristics of GPU workloads into computing-bound, memory-bound, and dependency-latency-bound, and quantifies the fine-grained bottleneck for efficient workload allocation. For example, we identify the exact bottleneck resources such as single function unit, double function unit, or special function unit even for the same computing-bound workloads. Our analysis implies that workloads can be allocated together if fine-grained bottleneck resources are different even for the same computing-bound workloads, which can eventually contribute to efficient workload allocation in GPU.

  • Smart factory is a future factory that collects, analyzes, and monitors various data in real time by attaching sensors to equipment in the factory. In a smart factory, it is very important to inquire and generate the status and history of equipment in real time, and the emergence of various smart devices enables this to be performed more efficiently. This paper proposes a multi device-based system that can create, search, and delete equipment status and history in real time. The proposed system uses the Android system and the smart glass system at the same time in consideration of the special environment of the factory. The smart glass system uses a QR code for equipment recognition and provides a more efficient work environment by using a voice recognition function. We designed a system structure for real time equipment monitoring based on multi devices, and we show practicality by implementing and Android system, a smart glass system, and a web application server.

Detection Range Improvement of Radiation Sensor for Radiation Contamination Distribution Imaging (방사선 오염분포 영상화를 위한 방사선 센서의 탐지 범위 개선에 관한 연구)

  • To carry out safe and rapid decontamination in radiological accident areas, acquisition of various information on radiation sources is needed. In particular, to figure out the location and distribution of radiation sources is essential for rapid follow-up and removal of contaminants as well as minimizing worker damage. The radiation distribution detection device is used to obtain the position and distribution information of the radiation source. In the case of a radiation distribution detection device, a detection sensor unit is generally composed of a single sensor, and the detection range is limited due to the physical characteristics of the single sensor. We applied a calibration detector for controlling the detection sensitivity of a single sensor for radiation detection and improved the limited detection range of radiation dose rate. Also, gamma irradiation test confirmed the improvement of radiation distribution detection range.

  • The visual motivation between AP devices is NTP-based visual motivation through the access of the Internet through the internal wired LAN, but this has several seconds of visual difference in hundreds of milliseconds (msec) depending on the network. The frame for the output of the video will vary depending on the application, but usually 24 (image) frames are output to the screen in one second. Therefore, the visual synchronization between peripheral devices can be performed through the adjacent moving camera device, not the wired method. The programming method of generating API for synchronization command when creating an application for visual synchronization and delivering it to AP through MAC may differ from the time in synchronization command according to the environment of the operating system at the transmission side and the situation of the buffer queue of the MAC. Therefore, as a method to solve this problem, the renewal of visual information in the device driver terminal controlling MAC can be much more effective.

A Study on improvement of communication error between controllers for K56 ammunition transport vehicle (K56 탄약운반장갑차용 제어기 간 통신 오류 개선에 관한 연구)

  • This paper is the study of a design to eliminate the communication error that occurs between the main controller and the servo controller of the K56 ammunition-carrying armored vehicle. The K56 assists in the operation of the K-55A1 self-propelled gun by automating the supply and loading of ammunition. The CAN communication board of the ammunition carrier is a key-function product mounted inside the main controller and installed for communication with the servo controller. It was confirmed that an undefined error would occur intermittently in the existing CAN communication board, interrupting the operation of the ammunition supply system during the loading process. In this paper, in order to solve the problem, the cause of the failure is identified through analysis and a functional test of the communication signal between the main controller and the servo controller. The error was resolved by redesigning and improving the Read/Write algorithm. Finally, the proposed cause analysis and design effectiveness were verified through the CAN communication board single item test and a system equipment application test. It is expected that this study will serve as a reference for improving defense capabilities through improving the reliability of CAN communication boards and by improving the reliability of the overall electronic equipment using DPRAM.

COMS Electrical Power Subsystem Preliminary Design (통신해양기상위성 전력계 예비설계)

  • The COMS(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) EPS(Electrical Power Subsystem) is derived from an enhanced Eurostar 3000 version. Eurostar 3000 EpS is fully autonomous operation in nominal conditions or in the event of a failure and provides a high level of reconfigure capability. This paper introduces the COMS EPS preliminary design result. COMS EPS consists of a battery, a solar arrat wing, a PSR(Power Supply Regulator), a PRU(Pyrotechnic Unit), a SDAM(Solar Array Drive Mechanism) and relay and fuse brackets. COMS EPS can offer a bus power capability of 3 kW. The solar array is made of a deployable wing with two panels. One type fo solar cells is selected ad GaAs/Ge triple junction cells. Li-ion battery is base lined with ten series cell module of five cells in parallel. PSR associated to battery and solar array wing generates a power bus fully regulated at 50 V. Power bus os centralized protection and distribution by relay and fuse brackets. PRU provides power for firing actuarors devices. The solar array wing is rotated by the SADM under control of the attitude orbit control subsystem. The control and monitoring of the EPS, especially of the battery, is performed by the PSR in combination with the on-board software.

  • The growth of mobile devices in Internet of Things (IoT) leads to a number of intelligent buildings related IoT applications. For instance, home automation controlling system uses client system such web apps on smartphone or web service to access the home server by sending control commands. The home server receives the command, then controls for instance the light system. The gateway based RESTful technology responsible for handling clients' requests attests an internet latency in case a large number of clients' requests submit toward the gateway increases. In this paper, we propose the design tasks of the IoT gateway for handling concurrency events. In the procedure of designing tasks, concurrency is best understood by employing multiple levels of abstraction. The way that is eminently to accomplish concurrency is to build an object-oriented environment with support for messages passing between concurrent objects. We also investigate the performance of event-driven architecture for building IoT gateway using node.js on one side and communication protocol based message-oriented middleware known as XMPP to handle communications of intelligent building control devices connected to the gateway through a centralized hub. The Node.JS is 40% faster than the traditional web server side features thread-based approach. The use of Node.js server-side handles a large number of clients' requests, then therefore, reduces delay in performing predefined actions automatically in intelligent building IoT environment.

  • In the ubiquitous environment, the real-time remote control and monitoring technology for intelligent robot creates service as a sharable and independent of time-location for various contents to get from a sensor or camera of the robot. In this paper, We propose the real-time monitor and control mechanism for intelligent robot called URC(Ubiquitous Robotic Companion). URC are intelligent robots designed as to interact with external digital device that can communicate through wire or wireless by integration the network and information technology into traditional robot. It has been carried out by implementing this technology into the target robot called ISSAC4 and proving its practical worth. We designed feasibly to control on remote site by web-browser. It guarantees a continuity of real-time image transferring by Client-Pull method.
