  • A probabilistic approach for evaluation of prediction of the strains using Lade's single surface constitutive model was employed, based on first-order approximate mean and variance. Several experiments such as isotropic compression and drained triaxial compression tests were conducted to examine the variabilities of soil parameters for Lade's model. By taking into account the results of the experimental data such as mean values and standard deviations of soil parameter's, a new probabilistic approach, which explains the uncertainty of computed strains, is applied. The magnitude of the COV for each parameter and the correlation coefficient between the two parameters can be effectively used for reducing the number of the parameters for the model. It is concluded that Lade's single surface constitutive model is surperior model for the prediction of the strain, because the COV of strains is under the "0.51".

  • To predict the stress-strain behavior of the soil more approximately, the concept of the critical state soil mechanics was added to the plasticity increment theory in the bounding surface Plasticity model. This model was constituted with two ellipse and one hyperbola in older to describe the behaviour of the isotropically consolidated soil. Thus, this model is very complicate due to the various parameters used. Therefore, the accurate understanding and skill of the theory is required in order to apply this model to the practical geotechnical problems. In the present paper, the bounding surface shape paraiheter R and A, the mapping center parameter C among various parameters used were varied and the results were numerically analized. Finally, each sensitivity with respect to monotonic and cyclic loading was analized and the range of the value of the each parameter was proposed.

  • This paper aims at investigating the characteristics of soil deformation by finite element method (FEM) coupling the cap model with the multi.purpose program developed by authors for the analysis of foundation displacement. The cap model as the constitutive equation has proved to be very useful to a partially saturated roils as well as rocks with high accuracy. As described in the Previous Paper (Park et al 1987) , there exist some difficulties in the determination of soil parameters in order to use the cap model at Present. However the authors have been studying to seek the method for the determination of the soil parameters from the laboratory results of conventional cylindrical triaxial test. Though the computer program advocated by foreign scholars has been kept secret, authors accomplished in performing the FEM analysis by the algorithm and program developed by authors for the cap model. Good results are obtained compared with those published already by Desai(1981) The main conclusions analyzed are as follows: 1. The cap model can be coupled with the multi.purpose computer program of authors bases on the Biot's consolidation theory without loss of generality. 2. Big difference appears in the settlement of center of the embankment between the cap modes and the modified Cam clay model in undrained conditions. The more study on which is more accurate should be performed in this respect.

  • This study aims at investigating the undrained behavior of the normally consolidated clay foundation using single hardening constitutive model based on elasticity and plasticity theories. The specimen employed was sampled at Mooan near the down stream of Young San river and remolded into consolidation apparatus. 11 soil parameters for the model was determined from simple tests such as isotropic compression and consolidation undrained triaxial compression tests. FEM program to predict the undrained behavior of the foundation was developed and back analysis was performed to verify prediction ability of the FEM program. Finally plate load test on the 2-dimensional model foundation was carried out in order to compare numerical analysis and observed values on the foundation.

  • Several isotropic compression-expansion tests and a series of drained conventional traxial tests with various confining pressures for relative density of Beakma river sand 25%, 50%, 80% and 100% selecting Lade's Single Work-Hardening constitutive model. This examination materials use regression analysis as a basis, depending on the relative density of soil parameters change statement attributes. Yield fuction represent the soil parameters h and $\alpha$ is not affected by the changes in the relative density. $\eta_1$ could be replaced by fomula. And Numerical analysis results predicted very good and could confirm that.

  • To get accurate results, the realistic stress-strain relationships of soils are dependent on a number of factors such as soil types, density, stress levels and stress path. Such attempts are continuously being made by the developement of analytical models for soils incorporating all such factors. Isotropic compression-expansion test and a series of drained conventional triaxial tests with several stress path for Baekma river sand were performed to investigate parameters characteristics of Lade's single work hardening model dependant on the stress path. Using the computer program based on the regression analysis, the values of parameters for the model were determined. In conclusion, the parameters of Lade's model are little influenced by the stress paths. Though yield criterion parameters ( h, ${\alpha}$a) are much influenced by stress level and stress path, the parameters don't have influence on stress-strain behavior.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a multireservoir water balance model which may be used to evaluate rural water demands such as agricultural water, domestic water, industrial water and livestock water and to determine effective storage of reservoir. The model was verified to compare the observed reservoir release data with the simulated reservoir release data of the existing Munsan and Dongbu reservoirs located in the Gisan rural district for 3 years('87~'89). For model application, the effective storages of existing reservoirs(Munsan & Dongbu) were evaluated for 10-year frequency drought and that of newly planned reservoirs(Kumbok & Kudong) were determined for 10-year frequency drought. In addition, the behavior of effective storages for existing reservoirs were analyzed in the case of introducing new reservoirs in the existing system.

  • A reliability-groundwater flow analysis is performed and the influence of flow parameters on the probability of exceeding the threshold value is examined. For this study, the 3-D numerical groundwater flow program, DGU-FLOW, is developed by extending the 2-D flow program and is coupled to the first and second order reliability program. The 3-D flow program is verified by solving the examples of groundwater flow through the underground excavation and comparing the results from commercial MODFLOW program. Reliability routine of the program is also verified by comparing the probability of failure with that of Monte-Carlo Simulation. The reliability analysis of the groundwater flow showed that the probability of failure from the first and second order reliability method are quite close to that of Monte-Carlo Simulation. from the parametric study of hydraulic conductivity of soil layers, the increase of both mean and variance of hydraulic conductivity results in the increase of probability of exceeding the threshold flow quantity. The probability of failure was more sensitive to constant head located at the end of the flow domain than the other parameters.

  • In this study, the single hardening model with stress history-dependent plastic potential, which has been most recently proposed based on the critical state soil mechanics and needs few model parameters, was verified for the normally, lightly, and heavily over-consolidated clayey specimens. The triaxial compression tests were strictly conducted. The predictions using the single hardening model generally agree with the measurement. The discrepancy exists on its main focusing on the principal stress rotation; however, the plastic work H and the principal stress rotation angle ${\beta}$ are found to be effective indicators of loading history for the plastic potential function of the stress path dependent materials.
