Along with the rapid diffusion of smart devices, smart learning has been taking place as a main pedagogy in education. Under these drastic changing circumstances, social presence and interaction between learners have been highlighted as key factors in educational research. In this light of rising importance, this study examined the effects of modality and smart device on users' perceived social presence and interaction experience in a smart learning environment. It conducted 2(text based interface vs. audio/video based interface) by 2(smartphone vs. tablet PC) between-subjects experiment. 80 participants were systematically recruited and randomly assigned to four conditions. The findings showed that social presence was higher in audio/video based interface condition than in text based interface condition. Modality also had a positive effect on learner's interaction experience. On the other hand, the effect of smart device is found to be statistically insignificant. Instead, interaction effect existed between modality and device on social presence. The result of this study suggests that the modality and characteristics of device should be considered seriously when designing interface of smart learning contents. The findings in this study provide future studies with heuristic implications by highlighting users' perceived cognition and experience.
There is increasing interest in text analysis based on unstructured data such as articles and comments, questions and answers. This is because they can be used to identify, evaluate, predict, and recommend features from unstructured text data, which is the opinion of people. The same holds true for TEL, where the MOOC service has evolved to automate debating, questioning and answering services based on the teaching-learning support system in order to generate question topics and to automatically classify the topics relevant to new questions based on question and answer data accumulated in the system. Therefore, in this study, we propose topic modeling using LDA to automatically classify new query topics. The proposed method enables the generation of a dictionary of question topics and the automatic classification of topics relevant to new questions. Experimentation showed high automatic classification of over 0.7 in some queries. The more new queries were included in the various topics, the better the automatic classification results.
In searching and locating a collection of components on the Web, users require a Web browser. Since the Web libraries tend to grow rapidly, there needs to be an effective way to organize and manage such large libraries. Traditional Web-based library(retrieval) systems provide various classification scheme and retrieval services to store and retrieve components. However, these systems do not include invaluable services, for example, enabling users to grasp the overall contents of the library at the beginning of retrieval. This paper discusses a Web-based library system, which provides the efficient management of object-oriented components and a set of services beyond simple component store and retrieval. These services consist of component comprehension through a reverse engineering process, automated summary extraction, and comprehension-based retrieval. Also, The performance of an automated cluster-based classification scheme adopted on the system is evaluated and compared with the cluster-based classification scheme adopted on the system is evaluated and compared with the performance of two other systems using traditional classification scheme.

For classification problems on mixture distribution, a threshold based on cost functions is optimal from the viewpoint of a minimum expected cost. Assuming that there is no cost information, we propose cost ratios in the expected cost corresponding to thresholds where the total accuracy and the true rate are maximized to explain the relation of these cost ratios minimizing the expected cost. Other cost ratios are also proposed by comparing the normalized expected costs when classification accuracy is maximized. The values of these cost ratios are located between two cost ratios for the expected costs based on classification accuracies, and converge to that of the minimum expected cost. This work suggests two cost ratios: one is minimized by the expected cost and the normalized expected cost, and the other in the expected cost and the normalized expected cost functions that are maximized classification accuracies. We discuss their compatibility based on the relation of these cost ratios.
In this study, we report the effectiveness of an interprofessional patient safety education in impacting student knowledge, attitudes and self-confidence around interprofessional communication. Thirty third-year students took part in a six weeks education that included a 90 minutes lecture and group discussion. Self-administered questionnaire were used for examining knowledge, attitudes, self-confidence and interviewed about team communication. There was no change in the knowledge(p=>0.05) but the attitude and self-confidence improved significantly after the education(p=<0.05). Students also noted that the importance of collaboration with other occupational groups. The first implementation of the interprofessional patient safety education had a positive effect on student attitudes, self-confidence and interprofessional teamwork.
In the database design course, the team project is a very important process to develop students' database design competencies. In order to carry out team projects smoothly, active interaction between students and the professor as well as collaboration among team members are very important. However, a full uncontacted class was suddenly decides in the first semester of 2020, it was questionable whether it would be possible to effectively manage this course, where team projects to construct database take up a big portion. However team projects were able to proceed without major problems through interaction using real-time video media such as zoom, and discussions, quizzes, and Q&A supported by the online education support system (LMS), and online presentations, mutual evaluations, and so on. This paper shares the experience of managing engineering team projects in uncontacted classes and based on three surveys introduces desirable improving directions of this instruction and some suggestions to improve uncontacted classes overall.
The purpose of this study is to draw implications for future Korean science education by analyzing the PISA 2015 science teacher questionnaire. To this end, descriptive statistics and difference tests were conducted for each questionnaire item, using raw data from science teacher surveys in Korea, the United States, and China. As a result of the analysis, first, the perception that Korean science teachers should participate in professional development activities was lower than that of comparative countries, and it was found that improvement was needed in the practice of adaptive instruction and various evaluation methods. Second, although Korean science teachers were generally satisfied with their jobs, the response that they were hindered in science education activities due to limitations in various resources at their current school was relatively higher than that of comparative countries. Third, scientific inquiry was less emphasized in science curriculum and science class in Korea, and self-efficacy in inquiry teaching process was relatively low. Fourth, in Korea, it was found that there were fewer classes for discussion and using ICT in science classes.
This study analyzed the effectiveness by developing an online program to enhance collaborative problem-solving capabilities for college freshmen using gamification. According to the research results, the operational model of the online program for enhancing collaborative problem-solving capabilities using gamification was presented in five stages: 1 preparation, 2 team building, 3 assessment, 4 feedback, and 5 achievement sharing. The results of the "pre-test" and post T-test of creative problem-solving capabilities, the variables related to creative problem-solving skills, academic challenge, creative thinking ability, and convergence value creation have been significantly improved. What should be discussed in the future is the need to experience collaborative problem solving process online, and to develop game design and platform that can discuss and communicate.
This paper presents an example of the introduction and operation of the PBL so that students can have the ability to apply the problems of corporate social responsibility and ethical values that must be considered by exporting companies or multinational companies, which are the main research subjects of business dynamics. As a result, students were able to broaden their views through self-directed classes and presentations, listen to and share opinions of other students through discussions, and were able to take a logical approach to judgment standards involved in specific corporate activities, showing that the PBL teaching method is effectively applied to business ethics classes.
