Route matching delivery recommendation system using text similarity

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm that enables near-field delivery at a faster and lowest cost to meet the growing demand for delivery services. The algorithm proposed in this study involves subway passengers (shipper) in logistics movement as delivery sources. At this time, the passenger may select a delivery logistics matching subway route. And from the perspective of the service user, it is possible to select a delivery man whose route matches. At this time, the delivery source recommendation is carried out in a text similarity measurement method that combines TF-IDF&N-gram and BERT. Therefore, unlike the existing delivery system, two-way selection is supported in a man-to-man method between consumers and delivery man. Both cost minimization and delivery period reduction can be guaranteed in that passengers on board are involved in logistics movement. In addition, since special skills are not required in terms of transportation, it is also meaningful in that it can provide opportunities for economic participation to workers whose job positions have been reduced.

  • As the market of express delivery services expands rapidly, delivery service companies are exposed to severe competition. As a result of the surplus of delivery companies, they are struggling with remaining competitive at a reasonable price with appropriate level of customer satisfaction. To cope with competition pressures, a strategic alliance is suggested as an effective solution to the challenges faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in express delivery services. Therefore, this study suggests a combined optimization and simulation approach to the reconfiguration of an express delivery service network for strategic alliance with respect to strategy partnership of closing/keeping service centers among companies involved and adjustments of their cutoff times. An illustrative numerical example is presented to demonstrate the practicality and efficiency of the approach.

  • The volume of parcel delivery is steadily increasing with the rapid growth of the global online e-commerce market. However, a large amount of packaging materials used for these parcel delivery is finally causing environmental problems as waste. In this study, we have taken a pilot test on the returnable parcel delivery packaging & service, which is one of various ways to reduce the generation of the distribution packaging waste raised by e-commerce-based parcel delivery. For the purpose of this project, we made 300 boxes of returnable & foldable delivery packaging(415 mm × 280 mm × 160 mm) and have cooperated with e-commerce company(CJ ENM) & logistics company(LogisAll). Consequently, about 50% of the delivered packages was returned because of the lack of consumer's understanding on the returnable packaging system. We finally have suggested the policy strategy to get over problems derived from the experiment, like the retrieval rate and cost of the returnable packaging, economic efficiency and so on.

  • Ontology specifies the knowledge in a specific domain and defines the concepts of knowledge and the relationships between concepts. It is possible to provide the service based on the semantic web through the ontology. Therefore, to specify and define the knowledge in a specific domain, it is required to generate the ontology which conceptualizes the knowledge. Accordingly, to search the information of potential customers for home-delivery marketing of post office, we design the specific domain to generate the ontology based on the semantic web in this paper. And we propose how to retrieve the information, using the generated ontology. We implement the data search robot which collects the information based on the generated ontology. Also, we confirm that the ontology and the search robot perform the information retrieval exactly.

  • In the recent a mobile internet makes a change in internet business. The mobile internet service is resulting in M-commerce. Even if M-commerce provides only information service, there will be much possibilities to make applications in various areas such as, delivery service, trading service, banking service etc. in the near future. Delivery service requires many steps in processing, originally. This study is designed to implement a mobile system which makes short in delivery process. It includes that a delivery man receives a signature on a paper and input data at the delivered place by using PDA at hand. The mobile system will be contributed to shorten delivery speed. It is proposed to implement the mobile office system for improving service efficiency in the business of delivery service.   • 이 논문에서는 소포 배달 서비스를 위한 인텔리전트 모니터링 시스템(Intelligent Monitoring and Control System; IMCS)에 대해 기술한다. IMCS 는 GIS, GPS 그리고 무선 통신 기술을 이용하여 택배의 접수와 배달 업무를 효율적이고 효과적으로 개발하기 위한 시스템이다. IMCS는 모두 세개의 서브 시스템으로 구성되어 있는데 접수와 배달 계획을 수립하는 PDPS(Pick-up and Delivery Planning System)과 접수/배달 현황과 차량의 위치를 파악할 수 있는 PDMS(Pick-up and Delivery Monitoring System), 그리고 개인휴대단말기(PDA)을 이용한 실시간 업무 처리 시스템인 MOCS(Mobile Operations and Communication System)으로 구성되어 있다. PDPS는 GIS와 최적화 알고리즘을 이용하여 접수와 배달을 위한 방문 순서와 경로 그리고 고객에게 방문할 예정시간 등을 생성한다. MOCS에서는 GPS와 무선 통신을 이용하여 업무 중 발생한 접수/배달 결과와 위치 정보를 실시간으로 PDMS에 전송하고 바코드 스캐닝과 전자 서명 등의 업무를 지원한다. PDMS에서는 수신한 정보에 따라 소포의 접수/배달 현황과 차량의 위치를 전자지도 상에 표현하고 업무 차량의 이동 궤적을 표시하여 계획된 경로와 비교하여 모니터링하고 관제할 수 있다. 현재 IMCS는 국내 한 우체국에서 시범 운영되고 있다.

Service Blueprinting Analysis(SBA) on B2B Courier Services - Focus on Company Y (기업택배 기업의 서비스 프로세스 개선 방안 - Y사의 서비스청사진 분석을 중심으로)

  • Purpose: This research aims to analyze the service process of corporate courier services in order to offer service providers possible directions for adaptation of new technologies and assurance of better quality services. Methods: Through the analysis on the parcel service process of company Y by applying service blueprinting method, the overall process and failure service points of corporate courier services can be recognized and investigated. Next, the several newer technologies, augmented reality glasses, exoskeleton, and drone are applied to the service process of company Y as they are suggested by the literature review and referenced to DHL's report on the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Then, service options to overcome the service failure points to improve the service process can be produced. Results: The parcel service process of the company Y is utilized as a hub-and-spoke structure by having distribution and delivery centers which separates customers into two types, ones using the total services and the others only using the delivery service. In addition, the main cause of the service failures is determined that it is due to the limited working hours of delivery centers compared to the workload. Conclusion: This research contributes in better understanding of corporate courier services and providing information for benchmarking. An empirical research on the costs and the efficiencies of applying the new technologies is suggested for the further improvement in the processes of corporate courier services.

A Study on the Legal Aspects of International Express Courier Business (현행 항공법상 상업서류 송달업의 문제점과 입법방향)

  • Considering a trend of logistics and transport industry in these days, it can be said that international express courier service is one of the most familiar transport type to the general public. Especially in Korea, due to development of electronic commercial transaction and the popularity of television home shopping, it can easily anticipated that express courier business will continuously grown in the future. However, the legal basis for international express courier is not properly set up so far. The only clause about this can be found on Korean Aviation Law said as 'commercial documents delivery business'. The origin of the commercial documents delivery business in Aviation Law is to make exception from public postal services which has been exclusive status as monopoly based on the Korean Postal Law. Basically, according to this regulation, all the private postal delivery is prohibited except some sort of commercial documents such as consignment notes, packing list, invoice etc. Thus, those documents could be delivered not only by public postal services but also by private courier company according to the Korean Postal Law. This waiver has probably come from under developing condition of Korean postal circumstances, however it should be revised according to the modernized business practice. Reflecting these revisions, the articles of Korean Postal Law adopted 'international express courier document' as the exception of postal service. Therefore, Korean Aviation Law also needs to be revised as Postal Law in due course. In addition to revision of Korean Aviation Law, some sort of new legislation is required to govern the private legal aspects such as legal liabilities, duties and rights of each parties on international express courier. This should be governed by 'law' not by 'terms and conditions' provided by business operators. Furthermore, to support and develop the current domestic logistics companies as international express courier company, it is required to regulate with the separate express courier law.

Study on Vehicle Routing Problem with Minimum Delivery Completion Time (특송소화물 배송완료시간 최소화를 위한 차량경로문제 연구)

  • The growing demand for customer-response, made-to-order manufacturing and satisfactory delivery are stimulating the importance of commercial fleet management problem. Moreover, the rapid transformation to the customer-oriented multi-frequency, relatively small fleet, such as home delivery and Perishable goods, requiring prompt delivery and advanced real-time operation of vehicle fleets. In this paper we consider the vehicle routing problem(VRP) to minimize delivery completion time which is equal to the time that last customer wait for the vehicle in fleet operation. The mathematical formulation is different from those for the classical VRP which is minimizing cost/distance/time by running vehicles in manager's point of view. The key aspect of this model is not considering the return time from the last customer to depot in every vehicle path. Thereby, the vehicle dispatcher can afford to dynamically respond to customer demand and vehicle availability. The customer's position concerned with minimizing waiting time that may be applied for the delivery of product required freshness or delivery time. Extensive experiments are carried out to compare the performance of minimizing delivery completion time by using the ILOG Solver which has the advantage of solving quickly an interim solution very near an optimal solution. The experimental results show that the suggested model can easily find near optimal solution in a reasonable computational time under the various combination of customers and vehicles.

Evaluating Usability of Mobile Applications for Smart Logistics (스마트 물류를 위한 모바일 애플리케이션의 사용성 평가)

  • With the 4th industrial revolution, the traditional logistics is shifting to the smart logistics, and it has led to rapid growth of logistics startup companies to support smart logistics. They build their mobile applications and customize their services in the areas of freight transport, parcel delivery services, freight tracking, on-demand logistics, transport intermediary platforms, online-to-offline business, and last mile delivery. In order for logistics startup to be successful, it should lead to sales and profit through customer satisfaction and continuous use by developing highly usable mobile applications. The evaluation of usability of mobile application should use different evaluation criteria from Web based applications because of the inherent characteristics of mobile phone. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usability of the mobile application provided by the logistics startup and to draw out implications and improvement plans. Through the literature review, we will review the concept of smart logistics. Thus we derive the usability criteria suitable for mobile applications and perform usability testing.
