  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the gifted students' view on argumentation and the aspects of the argumentation in problem-solving type experiment. As a result, very lively argumentation was identified but quality enhancement on argumentation wasn't found over time. Students made frequent use of dialogic argumentation component, and especially, request & response component was highly used. Though usage frequency is low, the component of ground & question on ground was shown in 3rd class, and simple agreement gradually reduced, and reinforcing elaboration & metacognitive question has slightly increased. Also, students' argumentation were closely related to teachers' teaching approaches as some teacher-led steps doesn't appear in students' argumentation. By comparison in steps, 'problem solving activity & result analysis' step included 2 times more argument components than the previous step. We also found that method grouping teams does not almost affect the argumentation of gifted students. By survey results, most students recognized that they experienced free argumentation and this program activate argumentation and 'strange things' or 'difficulty' of program topics are obstacles in vitalization of argumentation. 'Surface growth experiments' was the most lively argumentation topic. The argumentation was lively made in the step of 'finding solution. 'Teachers' scaffolding accelerate the argumentation and help resolve difficulties in argumentation. Thus, students have positive recognition for the argumentation process in the experiments and recognize that argumentation process is needed.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a HAM (Heuristic Attention Model) by analyzing the difference between eye movements according to the science achievement of elementary school students on discrimination task. Science achievement was graded by the results of the Korea national achievement test conducted in 2012 for a random sampling of classes. As an assessment tool to check discrimination task, two discrimination measure problems from TSPS (Test of Science Process Skill, developed in 1994) which were suitable for an eye tracking system were adopted. The subjects of this study were 20 students from the sixth grade who agreed to participate in the research. SMI was used to collect EMD (eye movement data). Experiment 3.2 and BeGaze 3.2 programs were used to plan experiments and analyze EMD. As a result, eye movements of participants in discrimination tasks varied greatly in counts and duration of fixation, first fixation duration, and dwell time, according to students' science achievement and difficulty of the problems. By the analysis of EMD, strategies of the students' problem-solving could be found. During problem solving, subjects' eye movements were affected by visual attention; bottom-up attention, top-down attention and convert attention, and aflunter attention. In conclusion, HAM was developed, and it is believed to help in the development of a science learning program for underachievers.

  • We investigated pre-service science teachers' understanding of and problem-solving ability with regard to chemistry concepts in the high school curriculum. For this purpose, we used related certain items and analyzed the results. We found that in the case of all items, some pre-service science teachers, who do not have clear concepts, selected incorrect answers. The in-depth interviews we conducted with the participants revealed some of the causes for the results obtained. First, although pre-service science teachers have better concepts as compared to high school students, they have the same misconceptions as students with regard to some concepts. Second, although they are familiar with the general definitions or meanings of scientific concepts, they do not understand the specific content that is emphasized in the curriculum. Moreover, they tend to solve problems by the information visually conceived. Third, although they know the necessity of general concepts related to problem solving, they sometimes fail to apply inquiry skills and tend to suggest concepts from the higher education curriculum that are not helpful for solving problems.

  • Creativity is the thinking ability and the expression of new image by imagination as a problem recognition and way of solution. This study aims to search for the creativity theory of body movement and to analyze the creativity factor. According to the study, the creativity of body movement needs four steps: movement awareness, movement design, movement discovery and movement use. The use of new image through self-perception and self concept brings about a creative improvement in the problem recognition and its resolution function. In conclusion, the creativity of body movement means the infinity of body movement as 'the third energy' and 'the flexibility of flow' by interaction.
