Experimental Evaluation of Developed Ultra-low NOx Coal Burner Using Gas in a Bench-scale Single Burner Furnace (Bench-scale 연소로에서 가스 혼소를 통한 초 저 NOx 석탄 버너 개발 연구)

  • This study developed and tested an ultra-low NOx burner in an 80 kW combustion furnace. The experiment was conducted in an 80 kW single burner combustion furnace with changing the swirl numbers, total equivalence ratios, and primary/secondary oxidizer ratios. In this study, liquefied natural gas (LNG) was used as an auxiliary fuel to significantly reduce NOx production. In a thermal power plant, the amount of NOx generated during coal combustion is about 300 ppm. However, using the burner tested in this study, it was possible to reduce the amount of NOx generated via LNG co-firing to 40 ppm. If the input amount of the primary oxidizer is enough for the gas to be completely combusted and the gas and coal are added simultaneously, the combusted gas forms a high-temperature region at the burner outlet and volatilizes the coal. As a result, the N contained in the devolatilized coal is discharged. Therefore, when the coal is subsequently burned, the amount of NOx produced decreases because there is almost no N remaining in the coal. If a thermal power plant burner is developed based on the results of this study, it is expected that the NOx generation will be significantly lower in the early stage of combustion.

  • 전자빔 용해법에 의해 고순도 티타늄잉고트 및 버튼시편을 제조하였다. 이들 중 18개의 금속불순물을 GDMS(Glow Discharge Mass Spectrometry)로 그리고 탄소, 질소, 산소의 함량을 고온연소법으로 측정한 후 이들과 전기비저항, 경도와의 관계를 조사하였다. 99%와 99.6%스폰지를 용해한 경우 대부분의금속불순물들이 대폭 감소하는 큰 휘발 정련효과가 나타났으며 비금속불순물들의 경우는 장비의 진공상태에 따라 큰 영향을 받으며 정련효과를 기대할 수 없었다. 금속 불순물중 철은 가장 제거하기 어려운 원소로 밝혀졌으며 이는 원료 스폰기중에서 철이 주불순물이기 때문이며 추가적인 예비정련이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 상온 및 액체질소온도에서의 전기비저항은 가스불순물의 량이 증가함에 따라 직선적으로 증가하였으며 이들의 저항비($\rho$$_{RT}$ /$\rho$$_{N2}$)는 가스불순물의 총량이 1,000ppm이하의 경우 불순물량이 감소함에 따라 급격하게 저하하였으며 이 이상인 경우 완만하게 감소하였다. 이들의 경도는 가스불순물의 량이 증가하였으며 산소당량의 평방근에 비례하는 것으로 나타났다.다.

  • This paper describes the characteristics of n-Butane fuel for the homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine for a new concept. HCCI engines are being considered as a future alternative for diesel and gasoline engines. From the experimental observations, the effect of n-Butane fuel in HCCI engine on CO, HC and NOx are analysed. The objective of this paper is to clear the effects of equivalence ratio and inlet temperature with n-Butane on the HCCI. For this purpose, a 4-cylinder, compression ignition engine was converted into a HCCI engine This work has been run with n-butane fuel at a constant speed.

Effect of Carbon Equivalent and Cooling Rate on Microstructure in A516 Steels for Pressure Vessel (압력용기용 A516 강의 미세조직에 미치는 탄소 당량과 냉각 속도의 영향)

  • In this study, the effect of carbon equivalent and cooling rate on microstructure and hardness of A516 steels for pressure vessel is investigated. Six kinds of specimens are fabricated by varying carbon equivalent and cooling rate, and their microstructures and hardness levels are analyzed. Specimens with low carbon equivalent consist of ferrite and pearlite. As the cooling rate increases, the size of pearlite decreases slightly. The specimens with high carbon equivalent and rapid cooling rates of 10 and $20^{\circ}C/s$ consist of not only ferrite and pearlite but also bainite structure, such as granular bainite, acicular ferrite, and bainite ferrite. As the cooling rate increases, the volume fractions of bainite structure increase and the effective grain size decreases. The effective grain sizes of granular bainite, acicular ferrite, and bainitic ferrite are ~20, ~5, and ${\sim}10{{\mu}m$, respectively. In the specimens with bainite structure, the volume fractions of acicular ferrite and bainitic ferrite, with small effective grains, increase as cooling rate increases, and so the hardness increases significantly.

  • Glucosidic bond at the $C_{20}$ position of the sapogenins was hydrolyzed easily in the lower pH, higher temperature and longer time to give prosapogenins and sugars. The glucosidic bond of saponin at the $C_3\;of\; ginsenoside-Rb_1\;$, which is secondary carbon, was relatively stable due to the low electron density of -0.2. But the bond of saponin at the $C_{20}$ position, which is tertiary carbon with the relatively high electron density of -0.3, was liable to be hydrolyzed even in weak acidic solution by the increase of heating time. On the other hand, fresh and white ginseng contained 4.12 mg/g, 13.05 mg/g of citric acid, 0.68 mg/g, 2.18 mg/g of malonic acid, 1.13 mg/g, 3.68 mg/g of oxalic acid, 2.68 mg/g, 8.62 mg/g of malic acid and 0.13 mg/g, 0.46 mg/g of succinic acid, respectively. Ginseng saponins were very stable in ginseng extract neutralized with sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate corresponding to the equivalent amount of the total organic acid in the ginseng.

Development of $ZrO_2/Nafion^R$M composite membranes for PEMFC operation at high temperature/low humidity (고온/저가습 PEMFC운전을 위한 $ZrO_2/NafionM$ 복합막 개발)

  • 현재까지 연료전지 전해질 막으로는 Nafion으로 잘 알려져 있는 perfluorosulfonic acid(PFSA)막이 주를 이루고 있다. 이 막들은 $80^{\circ}C$ 이하의 낮은 온도의 연료전지에서 가장 좋은 성능을 보인다. PFSA 막들은 탄소-불소로 이루어진 사슬의 특성상 산화, 환원의 조건에서도 뛰어난 안정성을 보이며 이온 전도도가 0.1S/cm 이상으로 기존에 알려진 전해질 막들 중 가장 우수한 성능을 나타낸다. 하지만 연료전지의 작동온도가 $100^{\circ}C$ 이상의 높은 온도에서 는 막에 존재하던 수분이 제거되면서 수소이온 전도도가 떨어지며 기계적 물성도 떨어지는 문제점을나타낸다. $100^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서 연료전지를 작동시키면 양쪽의 전극에서 일어나는 촉매반응의 속도가 향상되며, 물의 끓는점 이상에서 작동되므로, 전지 내에서 다양한 상을 고려하지 않고 기화된 물만을 고려하여 설계를 할 수가 있다. 따라서 최근 이러한 고온/저가습 운전을 위 한 전해질 막의 개발을 위해 기존의 Nafion 막에 전도성 무기 입자를 도입하는 연구들이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 전도성 무기 입자로서 $ZrO_2$나노입자를 합성하고, 이를 상용 10 wt.% Nafion 용액에 분산하여 solution casting 방법을 통해 $61{\mu}m$ 두께의 유기-무기 복합막을 제조하였다. 제조한 유기-무기 복합막의 성능 평가를 위하여 함수율, 이온 전도도, 당량무게 및 단위 전지를 이용한 전류-전압 곡선을 측정하여 상용 Nafion 112 막과 비교해 보았다. $ZrO_2$ 입자는 전도성이며 동시에 친수성을 나타내기 때문에 상용 막에 비하여 함수율 및 수소이온 전도도가 우수하게 나타났다. 복합막의 이러한 물성은 $100^{\circ}C$이상의 고온에서 전해질 막 내의 물 관리를 용이하게 한다. 단위 전지 운전 온도 $130^{\circ}C$, 상대습도 37%의 운전 조건에서도 상당히 우수한 전지 성능을 보임에 따라 고온/저가습 조건에서 상용 Nafion 112 막보다 우수한 막 특성을 나타냄을 확인하였다.

  • The government is promoting various policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for carbon neutrality, one of the key tasks is to revitalize the hydrogen economy. As one of these policies the government has formulated a plan to incorporate hydrogen into existing city gas pipes, and aims to commercialize 20% hydrogen mixing by 2026. In preparation for the commercialization of city gas and hydrogen mixture, this study quantitatively predicts the scale of damage and the range of impact in the event of leakage of these two gas mixtures. The quantitative damage prediction method is to calculate the damage conversion distance through the calculation of the TNT equivalent by setting the leakage amount of the gas mixture in the event of an accident under a virtual scenario.

Study on Enhancement of Ammonia Generation for Effective Collision Frequency (유효충돌빈도를 고려한 암모니아 생성 증대기법 연구)

  • Research, such as developing alternative energy in the transportation field, including aviation, is being actively conducted to solve the issue of current climate change. Interest in ammonia fuel as a carbon free energy (CFE) source is increasing due to the ease of liquefaction and transportation and similarity in energy density to that of methanol. However, explosiveness and toxicity of ammonia make it difficult to handle. Therefore, in this study, stable ammonia production was attempted using relatively easy-to-handle urea water solution (UWS). High temperature steam was used to promote the hydrolysis of ammonia. In order to determine the causes for ammonia production below the theoretical equivalent ratio, it was suggested that there were not enough collisions to promote the hydrolysis based on the kinetic theory of gases. The hydrolysis of unreacted isocyanic acid (HNCO) was tested according to the change in water supply. As a result, an increased amount of ammonia produced was confirmed. The increased amount of ammonia produced in a certain section was dependent on the steam temperature and the flow rate of water supplied.

High Temperature Thermal Behavior of EAF Dust by Coke at Initial Reaction Stage (초기 반응단계에서 코크스에 의한 EAF DUST의 고온열적 거동)

  • High temperature thermal behaviors of EAF dust by coke at initial reaction stage were studied to obtain the fundamental data of EAF dust treatment process, that is Extended Arc Plasma Furnace System called RAPID system. In this study thermal behaviors including calcination of limestone, devolatilization of EAF dust itself, and reduction & devolatilization of mixture(EAF dust : coke : limestone = 80 : 10 : 10 wt.%) were investigated as functions of reaction temperature (1000~1300$^{\circ}C$) and reaction time (3~12 min), considering the 180% equivalence of carbon reduction and 1.7 bacisity for optimum reduction and melting of EAF dust in the RAPID system. Size of sample was about below 0.1 mm for these experiments. Limestone was completely calcined at above 1100$^{\circ}C$ within 1 minutes. In the case of devolatilization of EAF dust itself, weight loss of EAF dust was about 14% at 1300$^{\circ}C$ and 12 minutes, and partial sintering and melting were found in part of sample. Weight loss of mixtures increased with increasing reaction temperature and time, about 46% weight loss in it was occurred at 1300$^{\circ}C$ and 12 minutes. From these weight losses showing devolatilization and reduction of EAF dust, the treatment time of EAF dust inside.

A Study of Improving Combustion Stability with Sonic Wave Radiation (음파를 이용한 연소 안정성 개선에 관한 연구)

  • NOx (nitrogen oxide) in the exhaust gas engines causes severe air pollution. NOx is produced under high-temperature combustion conditions. EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) is normally used to reduce the combustion temperature and NOx production. As the EGR ratio increases, the NOx level becomes low. On the other hand, an excessively high EGR ratio makes the combustion unstable resulting in other air pollution problems, such as unburned hydrocarbon and higher CO levels. In this study, the improvement of fuel droplets moving by the radiation of sonic waves was studied for the stable combustion using analytic and experimental methods. For the analytical study, the effects of the radiation of a sonic wave on the fuel droplet velocity were studied using Fluent software. The results showed that the small droplet velocity increased more under high-frequency sonic wave conditions, and the large droplet velocity increased more under low-frequency sonic wave conditions. For the experimental study, the combustion chamber was made to measure the combustion pressure under the sonic wave effect. The measured pressure was used to calculate the heat release rate in the combustion chamber. With the heat release rate data, the heat release rate increased during the initial combustion process under low-frequency sonic wave conditions.
