  • This study was conducted to validate the Korean Love addiction Questionnaire-Short Form (K-LAQ-SF) applicable to Korean society. As a result of exploratory factor analysis for Love addiction 40 Questions(Peabody, 2005), the final 5 factors and 15 questions appeared, and the model fit of the final scale was confirmed through confirmatory factor analysis. The results of the equivalence test showed that the theoretical structure of the abbreviated scale works in the same way for each gender. The results of correlation analysis between K-LAQ-SF and original scale showed that the abbreviated scale represented the original scale relatively faithfully. Finally, the results of correlation analysis between this scale and relationship addiction, love type and depression showed that convergence, discrimination and criterion validity were secured. K-LAQ-SF is significant in that it can be usefully used to easily measure the characteristics of Korean adults' love addiction in a short time based on stable reliability and validity.

  • The purpose of this study is to conduct the Korean translation and validity of the Unconditional Positive Self-Regard Scale(UPSR) that Patterson and Joseph(2006) originally developed based on the Rogerian person-centered theory. K-UPSR was adapted, modified and validated from the UPSR Scale. This study verified reliability and validity, and factor structure of K-UPSR. The preliminary study was proceeded with twelve adapted questions to 131 undergraduate and graduate students. As a result, three questions were deleted for the low reliability. The exploratory factor analysis of the nine questions showed two sub factors. The internal consistency reliability of nine questions with two sub factors was .89 in this study. The study was conducted by 419 male and female adults and verified confirmatory factor analysis and the validity. The study data was evaluated for the suitability of convergent and discriminant validity of K-UPSR. Through the correlation analysis of other five scales, the result was mostly corresponded to the preliminary study.

  • The purpose of the current study is to to examine the psychometric properties of the Subjective Agingwell Scale (SAS). Three hundred and forty two elders completed the SAS and the scales assessing subjective well-being, optimism, perceived control and adhering to healthy behavior. The 11-item SAS that displays good internal reliability and good fit to the three-factor model consisting of cognitive satisfaction, positive affect, and spiritual fullness. Correlational analyses with measures of subjective agingwell, subjective well-being, and optimism provide evidence for construct validity. Moreover, the results from hierarchical regression analyses show criterion-related validity of the SAS. This scale could be used in the field to measure and promote subjective agingwell.

  • Academic engagement has been known as a strong predictor of students' cognitive and affective outcomes in an educational context. Despite increasing interest and theoretical usefulness of this construct, a few researchers seem to be interested in the validation of instruments to measure academic engagement for Korean students. Thus, this study would like to introduce one of academic scales widely used, UWES-S(Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-Student) (Schaufeli et al., 2002a: 2002b) and to validate the UWES-S for Korean college students. To validate the Korean version of the UWES-S, 651 college students (285 for Field Trial, 366 for Main Study) were used. The procedure is as follows. First, we used an integrated adaptation procedure to produce a Korean version of the UWES-S. Second, EFA(exploratory factor analyses) was applied to explore the factor structure of the UWES-S on the field trial data. Third, the psychometric properties of the UWES-S items were examined by graded response model(GRM). Also CFA(confirmatory factor analysis) was used to examine its internal construct validity for the data from the main study. Finally, the external validity of the UWES-S was scrutinized with the related variables such as academic motivation and satisfaction. As a result, the Korean version of the UWES-S with 13 items was accepted that the four items were excluded from its original version. Second, the internal validity was supported that the 3 factor CFA model(vigor, dedication, absorption) fit the data well. Third, we supported the partial mediation model that academic engagement played as a mediating variable between academic motivation(internal/external) and academic satisfaction. Finally, the differences between a validation of UWES-S for Korean college and high school students, the necessity of construct equivalence testing, and direction for future research of scale validating were discussed.
