  • To raise the utilization of precious platinum currently used as catalyst for PAFC's electrode, it is very important to make fine particles of platinum. This study, for preparing highly dispersed platinum catalyst on carbon black, method. And then loading yield of platinum catalyst on carbon black and the particle size were investigated by DCP and XRD and/or TEM respectively. The colloid method by which platinum particle size could be reduced as small as below $30{\AA}$ showed the best result among them, and the loading yield of platinum catalyst on carbon black was above 99%.

  • The phase behavior and dynamics of colloid suspensions and the resulting structures and properties of powder compacts were examined by a computer experimental method for cooperative packing processes. A wide range of properties and process conditions such as arbitrary particle size, medium densities, field strength, and temperature could be examined using the Peclet number (Pe). We demonstrated that an optimum range of Peclet number for the ordering of sediments was present and that the phenomena related to the ordering such as the onset of crystallization, the phase behavior, etc. strongly depend on process conditions. The present work appears to be useful to design the processing method of ceramic spherical submicron powders for the preparation of high-density green compacts.

  • Mie theory has been used to calculate the extinction of a gold nanoparticle in water by varying its diameter from 1 to 1000 nm. Utilizing this size-dependent theoretical spectrum, we have calculated the extinction spectrum of a colloidal gold by taking into account the size distribution of particle. Such calculation is in better agreement with experiment than the calculation without considering the size distribution. A least-squares fitting is used to deduce the size distribution from an experimental extinction spectrum. For particles with their diameters ranging from 10 to 28 nanometers, the fitting gives reasonable agreement with the size distribution obtained from tunneling electron microscope images.

  • Ag/polystyrene(PS) nanocomposites were prepared by in situ reduction of silver 2-ethylhexylcarbamate (Ag-CB) complex and follwing radical polymerization only by heating at 110 $^{\circ}C$. In contrast to this conventional heating method, the microwave irradiation afforded well-dispersed silver nanoparticles(NPs) in styrene monomer without polymerization. The synthesis of Ag NPs proceeded uniformly throughout the reaction vessel only under microwave irradiation, completing the reaction simultaneously in the whole reaction solution. Successive polymerization of the monomer containing the resultant NPs has successfully produced a hybrid of the silver NPs dispersed in PS matrix. Ag/PS (0.1/100) nanocomposites were prepared successfully by melt-mixing process using Ag/PS(4.0/100) as a master-batch. UV-VIS spectroscopy, TEM, and X-ray diffraction techniques were used to investigate the process of formation of Ag/PS nanocomposites.

  • SiC whisker-reinforced LAS matrix composites were developed by a mixed colloidal processing route. An optimization of processing conditions was made using the zeta potential data of silica, boehmite, and SiC whisker dispersions. Similarly, the SiC whisker-reinforced composites were also fabricated by the conventional sol-gel process using the hydrolysis-condensation reaction of relevant metal alkoxides. The composites fabricated by the mixed colloidal processing route were characterized by a uniform spatial distribution of SiC whisker throughout the matrix. The fracture toughness increased from 1.3 MPa.m1/2 for the LAS specimen to 5.0 Mpa.m1/2 for the hot-pressed composite (95$0^{\circ}C$ and 20 MPa for 20 min) containing 20 wt% SiC whisker. The increase in fracture toughness appears to result mainly from the crack deflection and the crack bridging by whiskers with some additional toughenings from the whisker pullout and the matrix prestressing mechanisms.

  • In this case report, an alternative impression technique for fabricating removable partial dentures was used in a patient with very few remaining teeth. In this technique, an individual tray was made on the cast, which was made by relining interim denture and taking overimpression with irreversible hydrocolloid according to McLean's functional impression concept. This method showed the following advantages: the no need for border molding with modeling compound, time saving for denture impression without overextension and accurate seating of the individual tray.

  • The various size and morphology microcapsules were prepared to produce smell sweet by heating condensation reaction of melamine and formaldehyde using 5-types of surfactants such as the laurylbenzenesulfonic acid sodium salt (SDS), polyvinylpyrrolidon (PVP), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), Span-80 and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-1 propanesulfonic acid (AMP). As result it was found that the size and morphology of microcapsule is intimately associated with a kind of surfactants. In order to prepare microcapsule with antibacterial, the silver nanoparticle was prepared by gamma-irradiation. microcapsule with silver nanoparticle was prepared.

  • Organic-inorganic hybrid coating solutions were prepared by using a sol-gel method for transparent film. In this study, colloidal silica (CS) and alkoxy silane such as vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS), and [3-(methacryloyloxy)]propyltri methoxy silane (MAPTMS) were used in various conditions such as types of organic silane, weight ratios of CS to silane and reaction times. Coating solutions which were bar coated on the PET (polyethyleneterephthalate) film and cured were investigated on the chemical and physical properties. The pencil hardness and adhesion of coating films were increased with increasing the organic silane content in the coating solution compared to that of PMMA (polymethamethylcrylate) coating solution.
