This paper presents experimental results for early-age properties of concrete such as the setting time and strength, evaluated via the ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV). Developing and using an automatically-recording monitoring system, the UPV's of mortar and concrete with various water to binder ratios (W/B) were measured during the first 24 hours. In addition, probe penetration and compression tests were conducted to measure the setting time and compressive strength, respectively. It was observed that the UPV's of mortar with high W/B remained constant during the first 6.5 hours and then abruptly began to increase at constant rates. On the other hand, the UPV of mortar with low W/B increased relatively slowly and gradually due to the setting retardation caused by the use of high range water reducing agent (HRWR). It was found that setting of concrete occurs when the UPV reaches a certain value. Moreover, it was concluded that the estimation formulas should incorporate the effects of W/B to more accurately estimate the early-age strength of concrete from the UPV.

This study proposed mix proportions of early strength pavement concrete for large size area using calcium nitrate. Therefore, we used type III cement with calcium nitrate. Laboratory tests conducted to air content, slump loss test, setting time test, compressive strength test and flexural strength test. Our early strength pavement concrete mixture proportion proposed in this study for large size area attained the required compressive strength of 21 MPa and a flexural strength of 3.8 MPa, which allowed it to be opened to traffic within 8 hours. Based on test results, we suggested optimum mix proportions of early strength pavement concrete for large size area using calcium nitrate.

Road pavements in Korea generally show shorter service life than the predicted one. There are many reasons for this phenomenon including increased traffic load and other attacks from exposure conditions. In order to extend a service life and upgrade the pavement, a new multi-functional composite pavement system is being developed in Korea. This study is to investigate the performances of fiber-reinforced lean concrete for pavement base. This study considered mineral admixtures of fly ash and reject ash. The reject ash is defined as ash that does not meet the specifications for fly ash so that it cannot be used as a supplemental material for cement replacement. Due to the inherent property of lean concrete, compaction during the fabrication of specimens is a key factor. Therefore, this study suggests an appropriate compaction method. From the test results, the compressive strengths of the concrete satisfied the required limit of 5 MPa at 7 days. When a compaction roller was used to mimic actual field conditions, the strength development seemed to be influenced by the compaction energy rather than hydration of cement itself.
In this study, it was developed eco-friendly mix design of mine sprayed concrete, which satisfies both the stability and economics by mixing the industrial in cement, for development of the mine sprayed concrete and recycling of industrial. From this research, it is found that mixing of mineral admixture is effective on strength enhancement. Also, it is considered that designed mixing ratio of sprayed concrete using industrial byproducts should be applied to the field through field test.

The purpose of this study is to estimate basic mechanical properties of alkali-activated concretes based on GGBS(Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag). In this study, various mix ratios of alkali activated concretes based on sodium silicate and GGBS were set to evaluate concrete's compressive strengths and strains on the basis of results of existing alkali-activated cements and preliminary concrete tests, which were already performed by authors [Ref. 1]. Compressive strengths of concretes of ages 1, 3, 7, 28, 56 and 91 days were tested and investigated, respectively, and at early ages (< 7days) alkali-activated slag concrete (AASC) showed a high strength development, compared to that of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). A compressive strengths of AASC at age-3days range between 18 and 24 MPa, while those of OPC range 12 and 15 MPa. The stress-strain curve after maximum stress, on the other hand, is approximately reached at a compressive strain between 0.002 and 0.0025, which mechanical property is very similar to that of OPC.
This study focused on the field applicability evaluation of SB latex-modified concrete (LMC) for concrete bridge deck overlay using mobile mixer. The main experimental factors were water-cement ratio(31, 33, 35 37%), latex contents(0, 5, 10, 15, 20%), and fine aggregate ratio(55, 56, 57, 58%) in order to evaluate the workability, mechanical properties, and durability property of LMC. The slump loss, air content, compressive and flexible strength tests were used to evaluate LMC workability and strength properties. Also, the rapid chloride permeability test was used to evaluate the relative permeability of LMC. As a results, the LMC with enough workability and good quality was produced when it was mixed in field using mobile mixer, satisfying the target compressive strength and flexural strength. The required water-cement ratio of LMC for same workability when mixing with mobile mixer was less than that when mixing in laboratory. Increasing the amount of latex produced concrete with increased flexural strength by mobile mixer. The required cement-water ratios for same initial $19{\pm}3cm$ slump were 37% and 33% at laboratory and mobile mixer, respectively. The mobile mixer was accurately calibrated satisfying the required specification.

The present study is mainly aimed at securing adequate pores which are applicable to the aquatic environment and satisfying the required strength of porous concrete as a structure by substituting pumice for crushed stone which is usually used for the fabrication of porous concrete. Accordingly, in order to deduce the optimum mixing conditions applicable to the aquatic environment, we sought to evaluate the porosity, coefficient of permeability and compressive strength of porous concrete based on the target porosity and the mixing factors for pumice. By examining the porosity and coefficient of permeability of porous concrete and the physical properties of its compressive strength based on the target porosity and the mixing factors for pumice, it is judged that the optimum mixtures for porous concrete applicable to the aquatic environment which satisfy both the necessity of securing adequate pores and the required strength for porous concrete as a structure are PC I I-10-0, PC I I-10-5 and PC I I-10-10.

Although Permeable concrete is resently used as a pavement at a parking lot, a public squre and a bicycle road, we use without enough examining. most the maintenance of quality for Permeable concrete is only dealt with strength and color tone. also, there is not yet enough fundamental data about dynamical properties for strength, rate of void and water permeability. even when it is applied to at the scene, it is been a matter.
