Anchorage Behavior of Bi Prestressed Concrete Girders (프리스트레스트 콘크리트거더의 정착구 거동 분석)

  • This study was performed to estimate the anchorage behavior for Bi Prestressed Concrete Girder(Bicon girder) which could introduce effectively prestressed forces into concrete girders. A bicon girder is manufactured by means of introducing pure bending moment that prestress simultaneously the compressive member(steel bar) and the tensile member(steel tendon). Therefore, the steel bar and the steel tendon must be unified in both ends and compressive and tensile force be offset. Anchorage dimension of 6 test specimens was designed under PTI specification which defined maximum stress and deformation to estimate structural behavior. Test results showed that the stress and the deformation of anchorage were within limits if the steel bar behaviored elastically.

Confinement Effect by Plate Type Lateral Reinforcement and Investigation of the Possibility for Use of High Strength Steel Bars in Reinforced Concrete Columns (횡방향 판재에 의한 횡구속 효과 및 철근콘크리트 기둥에서 고강도 철근의 사용성 검토)

  • The limitation of the yield strength in reinforced concrete columns is given for the effective use of high-strength steel bar, because very high-strength steel bar does not yield while concrete fails in compression. In order to overcome this limitation, it is required to increase peak strain of the concrete. The objective of this study is to examine the confinement effect of plate type lateral reinforcement in reinforced concrete columns. From this experimental study, the reinforced concrete columns confined by plate type carbon fiber sheets showed higher compressive strength and peak concrete strain comparing to the unconfined columns. The confinement effect is higher when cross-sectional type is a circular one than a square one. Moreover, the confinement effect was also higher for circular type confinement. Based on this study, high-strength steel bars with strength exceeding 800 MPa can be effectively used for reinforced concrete columns confined by plate type lateral reinforcements.

Evaluation of Creep Models with the Consideration of Concrete's Strength Level (콘크리트 강도대별 크리프 예측모델 평가)

  • Recent concrete structures have been being constructed with higher strength concrete than normal strength concrete. Therefore, it is necessary to review the applicabilities of current design codes and models for the prediction of mechanical behaviors of concrete materials such as creep. To investigate the applicability of creep model with the consideration of the strength level of concrete, three current models (ACI 209R, CEB-FIP MC90 and EC2) were studied and compared with series of experimental results. It was shown that EC2 model which is the updated model of CEB-FIP MC90 better predicts creep coefficient for high strength level concretes and showed relatively good agreements with experimental data.

Development of Failure Criterion for Asphalt Concrete Pavement Based on AASHTO Design Guide (AASHTO 설계법을 이용한 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장체의 피로파괴준식 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Failure criteria for asphalt concrete pavements are developed combining the AASHTO design equation and the multi-layered elastic theory. Thickness range including typical layer thicknesses of four-layer Korea highway structures are employed for pavement structure models. Total of 2430 pavement models with different layer thicknesses and moduli are analyzed. Models with crushed stone and asphalt stabilized base courses are equally included in the analysis. Number of load repetition and the maximum tensile strain at the bottom of asphalt layer are computed from the AASHTO design equation with terminal PSI=2.5 and multi-layered elastic computer program, SINELA, respectively. Failure criteria are developed through the regression analysis. From the analysis, failure criteria for the asphalt concrete pavements with 50% and 95% reliability levels are developed. It is found that the failure criterion of 95% reliability level gives similar results with existing fatigue failure criteria whose terminal performance condition is crack development when compared in a graphical form an equation to estimate failure criterion for a specific reliability level is also proposed.

Equivalent Shrinkage Strain For Steel-Concrete Composite Girder Bridges (합성거더교의 등가 건조수축 변형률)

  • Since Modern bridges have a tendency to make the spans continuous and longer, the effect of concrete shrinkage and creep is very important and must be evaluated appropriately for the durability and safety of steel-concrete composite bridges. However, highway design specification in current use prescribes $180^{1\;2}$ as the final shrinkage strain. which is for less value than one resulted from many experimental researches and cause some problems in the construction of composite bridges due to the understimation of shrinkage strain. Thus, in this paper nonlinear analysis with time-steps applying the CEB-FIP(90) provision have been conducted for plate girder bridge, box girder bridge and Preflex beam bridge and the linear equivalent shrinkage strain for the design of composite bridges. which produces the stress equal to the values from the nonlinear analysis, has been calculated by comparing the results with the values following highway design specification. The results yield appropriately double values than $180^{1\;2}$ which highway design specification prescribes.

Performance Evaluation of Encased-Concrete Bridge Plate(Deep Corrugated Steel Plate) Member (콘크리트 충전 브릿지 플레이트(대골형 파형강판) 부재의 성능평가)

  • The current encased-concrete deep corrugated steel plate has an arch type plate structure, which is a compressive strength-dominant structure that has a small moment due to its arch shape. Therefore, it increases the strength against compression by adding reinforcements to make concrete-filling spaces for increasing the compressive strength and forming cross sections that contain reinforced concrete. In this study, the safety factor of the new-concept encased-concrete bridge plate member was evaluated by comparing the compressive strength obtained from the compressive tests, flexural tests and the design compressive strength determined by using the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC, 2003), which is a design standard for the encased-concrete bridge plate structures. The results of the safety factor evaluation using the design compressive strength and the test results showed that the safety factor was well above the appropriate value 2.0, which could be adjudged very conservative. If the safety factor based on this study results is considered and applied to the design, economical construction will be possible due to the reduced cross section and construction cost.

Flexural Behavior of High Strength Reinforced Concrete Beams by Replacement Ratios of Recycled Coarse Aggregate (순환굵은골재 치환율에 따른 고강도 철근콘크리트 보의 휨 거동)

  • Recently, natural aggregate was adequate to supply the demand due to increase of building construction. National pollution induced by construction waste caused by the reconstruction and redevelopment was cited as the major social issues in Korea. Therefore, government are required by law to use the recycled aggregate. In order to consider safety, KS F 2573 recommend that recycled aggregate with below design strength 27MPa and replacement ratio of 30%. This study on flexural behaviors of reinforced concrete beam was conducted and the specimens employed in test were planed with high strength concrete (40, 50 and 60MPa) and recycled aggregate replacement ratio (0, 30, 50, 100%). Although the flexural strength of reinforced concrete beam has trendy to decrease with increase of replacement ratio, it is meet to KCI 2007. The comparison results show that reinforced concrete beam using recycled aggregate can apply as flexural member in building construction.

Parameter Study for the Application of Ultra Thin Polymer Concrete Pavement (초박층 폴리머콘크리트 포장적용을 위한 매개변수 해석)

  • Base on Korean design code, previous design code had not considered the effect of pavement on the orthotropic steel deck, however recent design code (Limit State Design Method, 2012) allowed to consider the effect of pavement on the orthotropic steel deck, and efforts to apply the stiffness of pavement to the deck continue. Meanwhile, research on the effect of ultra thin bridge deck overlay on the orthotropic steel deck is inadequate, previous study was limited in about fatigue stress and performance between pavement layer and the orthotropic steel deck. In this study, according to changing of pavement layer stiffness application, pavement materials, pavement thickness and steel deck thickness, analysis of deflection. In addition to base on this result, consider effectiveness of ultra-thin pavement stiffness application on the orthotropic steel deck.

An Experimental Study of Mechanical Properties of High-strength Concrete (고강도 콘크리트의 역학적 특성에 대한 실험 연구)

  • An experimental program was carried out to investigate the mechanical properties of high-strength concrete. High-strength concrete with compressive strengths of 80 to 120 MPa was tested. Test results are presented regarding effect of water-binder ratio on compressive strength and compressive strength gain. In addition, the effect of curing methods on compressive strength, elastic modulus, splitting tensile strength, and modulus of rupture is investigated. Test results of elastic modulus, splitting tensile strength, and modulus of rupture are compared with predictions from the current design recommendations. Predictions of elastic modulus by using KCI recommendation has good agreement with test results. However, predictions of modulus of rupture by using KCI recommendation underestimate the test results. ACI 363R recommendations predict well test results of splitting tensile strength and modulus of rupture. ACI 363R recommendations for predicting splitting tensile strength and modulus of rupture can be used for high-strength concrete with compressive strengths up to 120 MPa.

Physical Properties Evaluation of Porous Concrete according to Target Porosity and Pumice Contents Ratio for Application of the Aquatic Environment (수계환경 적용을 위한 설계공극률 및 부석 혼입률에 따른 포러스콘크리트의 물리적 특성 평가)

  • The present study is mainly aimed at securing adequate pores which are applicable to the aquatic environment and satisfying the required strength of porous concrete as a structure by substituting pumice for crushed stone which is usually used for the fabrication of porous concrete. Accordingly, in order to deduce the optimum mixing conditions applicable to the aquatic environment, we sought to evaluate the porosity, coefficient of permeability and compressive strength of porous concrete based on the target porosity and the mixing factors for pumice. By examining the porosity and coefficient of permeability of porous concrete and the physical properties of its compressive strength based on the target porosity and the mixing factors for pumice, it is judged that the optimum mixtures for porous concrete applicable to the aquatic environment which satisfy both the necessity of securing adequate pores and the required strength for porous concrete as a structure are PC I I-10-0, PC I I-10-5 and PC I I-10-10.
