Tutor System for Programming Education on the WWW (웹 기반 프로그래밍 튜터 시스템)

  • Programming education is an important part of the ICT education field, and helps to increase the ability of analyzing, logical thinking, and solving procedural problems. Unfortunately, there is very little chance to learn computer programming nowadays. In addition, students have to install the translating program of the programming language they wish to study. In this paper, we describe the system we designed and implemented on the Internet, which can offer the setting to make programs to run on the WWW. Students can make, edit and run programs on the WWW though they did not set up the language translator program on their local computers.

  • There is an increasing concern about computer education with the age of knowledge-based society. The learning programming language is taking an important role of computer education. However, the special emphasis in learning programming language has been attached to memorizing the programming language by rote and learning computer programs. Therefore, those were not much useful tools to develope a logical intelligence of the meanings of programming language and the methods of realization. It is positively necessary to improve the programming education efficiently because of the objects of knowledge of computing and raising an efficiency of problem solving. Under the circumstances, this research is aimed at representing an useful education model through developing a mathmatical program into each part of the C programming language, which would be a new supplier of an basic insight into the programming language and techniques. Accordingly it is thought that the research material will be an useful model to increase interests and concerns as well as to raise an efficiency of problem solving or a logical intelligence going through the process of studying programming language.

  • The revised 7th education course of information implies that students use variety of information devices to solve the common problems and it also includes the programming education for improving problem-solving abilities. Not only improving problem-solving abilities but also developing thinking skill is expected in programming education. However, traditional programming education is teacher-oriented and focused on language syntax. Accordingly, students have heavy cognitive load and it decrease students' interest of programming. Therefore, in this paper, a instructional method of programming using educational robot is proposed to improve interest of elementary students in concretive operation stage for effectiveness of programming education. Additionally, results of experiments show that proposed robot programming instructional method can be applied in elementary education.

Python-based Software Education Model for Non-Computer Majors (컴퓨터 비전공자를 위한 파이썬 기반 소프트웨어 교육 모델)

  • Modern society has evolved to such an extent that computing technology has become an integral part of various fields, creating new and superior value to society. Education on computer literacy, including the ability to design and build software, is now becoming a universal education that must be acquired by everyone, regardless of the field of study. Many universities are imparting software education to students to improve their problem-solving ability, including to students who are not majoring in computers. However, software education contains courses that are meant for computer majors and many students encounter difficulty in learning the grammar of programming language. To solve this problem, this paper analyzes the research outcomes of the existing software education model and proposes a Python-based software education model for students who are not majoring in computer science. Along with a Python-based software education model, this paper proposed a curriculum that can be applied during one semester, including learning procedures, and teaching strategies. This curriculum was applied to a liberal arts class and a meaningful result was derived. If the proposed software education model is applied, the students will be interested in the computer literacy class and improve their computational thinking and problem-solving ability.

Influential Error Factors of Robot Programming Learning on the Problem Solving Skill (로봇 프로그래밍 학습에서 문제해결력에 영향을 미치는 오류요소)

  • The programming learning by using a robot may be one of the most appropriate learning methods for enabling students to experience the creative learning of future society by avoiding the existing stereotyped style educational environment, and understand and improve algorithm which is the basic fundamental of mathematics and science. This study proposed four types of items of errors which may occur during robot programming by elementary school students, and made elementary school students in the fifth and sixth grades learn robot programming after developing the curriculum for the robot programming. Then, the study collected and classified errors that had occurred during the process of learning, and conducted a comparative analysis of computer-based programming language which had been previously studied. This study identified that robot programming in elementary school was shown superior to existing computer-based programming language as a creative learning method and tool through the field experience.

Automatic Generation of Multiple-Choice Questions Based on Statistical Language Model (통계 언어모델 기반 객관식 빈칸 채우기 문제 생성)

  • A fill-in-the-blank with choices are widely used in classrooms in order to check whether students' understand what is being taught. Although there have been proposed many algorithms for generating this type of questions, most of them focus on preparing sentences with blanks rather than generating multiple choices. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for generating multiple choices, given a sentence with a blank. Because the algorithm is based on a statistical language model, we can generate relatively unbiased result and adjust the level of difficulty with ease. The experimental results show that our approach automatically produces similar multiple-choices to those of the exam writers.

  • 데이터 분석도구 R은 대용량 데이터의 고급 분석과 통계 계산을 위한 스크립트 언어로 데이터의 자료 분석에 다양하게 활용되고 있다. 최근 평균수명의 연장과 더불어 새로운 직업들의 등장으로 인하여 사회 구성원들의 전직이나 이직에 대비하기 위한 다양한 직업교육 요구가 제시되고 있다. 또한 사회 구성원들의 교육수준이 전반적으로 높아짐에 따라 직업교육에 대한 요구 역시 보다 세분화되고 있으며 보다 높은 수준의 학습기회에 대한 요구도 증대되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 직업능력 교육의 기능과 역할을 재정립하고 직업능력 교육의 개발 방향을 제시하기 위하여 지역사회의 수요조사를 기반으로 데이터 분석도구 R을 활용하여 선호도 분석을 실시하였다.

Development of Web-based Robot Programming Education Supporting System (웹 기반의 로봇 프로그래밍 교육 지원 시스템 개발)

  • The effect of existing programming education has shown a limitation coming from its methodology. Thus, the researcher developed a Web-based robot programming support system and explored its possibility for overcoming problems in existing programming education and ultimately for enhancing creativity and problem-solving abilities of students. The developed system let students learn robot programming just with a PC or PDA connected to the Internet without additional hardware and software. Different types of robots linked with a server computer can be controlled by using different programming languages. It is possible to use Korean keywords for programming as well. Specially, this system was evaluated positively by the groups whose computer abilities are excellent and student of introductory or intermediate level programming course. Furthermore, the programming education that uses robot and the Hangul programming technology were given very positive reception by elementary school students.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the programming language teaching materials for the gifted of information with using the game. There are many curricula for teaching the information and technology to the gifted of information. There are not differences between these programs and the general IT curricula. The gifted of information has some complains about his curriculum(58/60, 96.67%). So this study developed the alternative programming language teaching materials for the gifted of information. This study concluded the effects of alternative materials for teaching programming language depend on learners' academic achievement about programming language with game activity. This study also looks forward to being able to indicate new direction to develop the teaching materials for the gifted of information.
