  • A 25-year-old female California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) died after a history of depression, loss of appetite, weakness and weight loss. At necropsy, multifocal to coalescing, tan to white, firm nodules, ranging from 0.5 to 3 cm in diameter were observed throughout both kidneys. Renal adenocarcinoma metastasis to the liver, spleen and small intestine was diagnosed based on gross and histopathological findings. To the best our knowledge, this is the first reported case in Korea, and understanding this case will support management and diagnosis of future cases of renal adenocarcinoma in California sea lions.

  • The Common Core States Standards was developed by building on the best state standards in the U.S.; examining the expectations of other highperforming countries around world; and carefully studying the research and literature available on what students need to know. The Common Core States Standards for Mathematics are reshaping the teaching and learning of mathematics in California classroom using the California Common Core States Standards for Mathematics(CA CCSSM). The aim of this study is to observe CA CCSSM. The CA CCSSM were established to address the problem of having a curriculum that is 'a mile wide and an inch deep'. And it have two types of standards. One is standards for mathematical practice which are the same at each grade level, the other is standards for mathematical content which are different at each grade level. This study focused on standards for mathematical content, in particular, on Geometry domain in elementary level, using Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools.

  • This paper discusses the price effects of local growth controls on the housing markets of California jurisdictions in the late 1980s empirically. Particularly, based on spatial econometric modeling, the study focuses on the homebuilding constrained by growth controls which is one of the price effects. The modeling produces the California-wide generalizable results, differentiates among the individual effects of various growth controls on homebuilding, and covers spatial effects. Thereby, this study intends to supplement the existing work on the price effects of growth controls. The modeling results find that restrictive residential zoning had the effect of significantly restricting housing construction in the late 1980s. On the other hand, urban growth boundaries had the effect of accommodating homebuilding. Population growth or housing permit caps and adequate public facility ordinances had no significant effects on housing construction.

  • This paper presents the determination of incentive level of Direct Load Control (DLC) program based on California Test. In the most of the Demand-Side Management (DSM) program, the variables art given by constant value during the DSM program's life time. But, in the case of DLC, variables are depen-dent on the executing number and time of the DLC per year. Therefore, we formulate a newly designed Cal-ifornia Test technique to overcome these problems and to apply effectively to the determination of incentive level of the DLC program. We perform case studies for various scenarios using a proposed formulation and review incentive level of the current DLC program. And we propose a plan to activate the DLC program in the competitive electricity market.

  • For the past decades, vehicle emissions has been a major source of air pollution in urban areas Vehicle inspection and maintenance (I/M) test programs were developed for major metropolitan areas to reduce urban air pollution. However. there are a few studies of exploring major factors to influence I/M test failure. This study develops a logit model to identify key factors affecting overall test failure, using the vehicle I/M test data from California in October 2002. The model results indicate that vehicle age, odometer reading, engine size, vehicle make, presences of emissions control equipment, and test types have significant effects on the probability of I/M test failure.

  • This study aims to consider the subject completion system based on high school credit system in State of California. To achieve research aims, this study analyzed a characteristics of curriculum of credit system in US, subject completion system based on high school credit system in State of California. Based on analysis results, this study search implications for implementing high school credit system in korea. For stable implement of High School Credit System, This study proposed that 'review of relevance of graduation requirement credit', 'effort in Metropolitan and Provincial office of education and School for establishing meaningful subject', 'taking follow-up action in accordance with setting of subject completion standard', 'qualitative improvement of student's subject selection', 'revitalization of career coaching for meaningful subject selection', 'setting of level on connectivity between high school curriculum and university entrance examination', 'a study on the in-depth follow-up about high school curriculum based credit system in foreign country'.
