A Study on the effect of coding education and improvement of learning achievement using educational game (기능성 게임을 활용한 코딩교육의 효과 및 학습 성취도 향상을 위한 연구)

  • This study introduces coding education using functional game and the effect of game quality on learning achievement. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the difference of game quality on the learner's attitude, learning immersion, education satisfaction and preference for elementary school and junior high school students. In this study, it is meaningful to consider the effect of quality improvement of educational games on learning and we suggest that when designing an educational game, game performance and quality should be considered carefully.

The Value Formation of Digital Image by Users' Interaction in Online Games (온라인게임에서 사용자 인터랙션에 의한 디지털 이미지의 가치 형성에 관한 연구)

  • Online games take place by the interactions among users and their contents change endlessly with their organic characteristics. Especially, digital images that make a great impact on game play such as characters or items form their own value beyond the establishment scope of their designer even outside of the game world. The users who pay fees for using them establish the concept of possession for the images and information designed in the games. Then, business transactions are formed among them who are in agreement with their values and their possession rights can be changed. In this way, digital images in the online games form new values by the interaction among other users or game systems. Meanwhile, the more the interaction and a sense of solidarity in the community increase, the higher their value becomes.

  • Ludo-narrative dissonance is a prevalent problem among open-world genre video games. However, Ghost of Tsushima (2020) alleviates this issue by designing its characters and narrative structure influenced by Akira Kurosawa's samurai films. The game's protagonist represents "Bushido," a samurai code, and the structure exudes similarity to Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey," which heavily influenced Kurosawa's films. The developers also designed the gameplay mechanics such as level-up system, map design, and side quests based on these narrative traits, ultimately making the goal of the narrative and the gameplay mechanics cohesive.

  • Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) created on the basis of blockchain have their own unique value, so they cannot be forged or exchanged with other tokens or coins. Using these characteristics, NFTs can be issued to digital assets such as images, videos, artworks, game characters, and items to claim ownership of digital assets among many users and objects in cyberspace, as well as proving the original. However, interest in NFTs exploded from the beginning of 2020, causing a lot of load on the blockchain network, and as a result, users are experiencing problems such as delays in computational processing or very large fees in the mining process. Additionally, all actions of users are stored in the blockchain, and digital assets are stored in a blockchain-based distributed file storage system, which may unnecessarily expose the personal information of users who do not want to identify themselves on the Internet. In this paper, we propose an NFT platform using cloud computing, access gate, conversion table, and cloud ID to improve usability and privacy problems that occur in existing system. For performance comparison between local and cloud systems, we measured the gas used for smart contract deployment and NFT-issued transaction. As a result, even though the cloud system used the same experimental environment and parameters, it saved about 3.75% of gas for smart contract deployment and about 4.6% for NFT-generated transaction, confirming that the cloud system can handle computations more efficiently than the local system.

  • 카툰 렌더링 그래픽을 기반으로 한 온라인 RPG 게임인 마비노기에서는 게임이용자들이 염색 시스템을 통하여 의복아이템에 자신들이 원하는 색을 자유롭게 표현할 수 있다. 마비노기에서 색에 관련된 주목할 만한 현상은유행색이 존재하고 색에 따라 같은 아이템의 가격이 달라진다는 점이다. 유행색이 존재하는 것은 현실과 비슷하지만 같은 아이템이 색에 따라 가격이 달라지는 것은 현실에서는 보기 드물다. 이는 현실과 비슷하면서도 심리적인 속성이 다른 사이버공간만의 특징이라고 생각해 볼 수 있다. 따라서 마비노기에서 게임이용자들이 색을 선택하고 사용할 때 작용하는 심리기제가 존재할 것이라고 가정해 볼 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 마비노기에서 색 선택 행동의 심리적 유형을 확인하고 유형별 특징을 알아보기 위해 자아존중감을 측정하였다. 예비 조사를 통해 게임이용자 20명과 온라인 인터뷰를 실시하여 색 사용 경험을 추출하고, 추출한 경험을 바탕으로 18문항의 색 선택 행동 문항을 구성하였다. 본 조사에서는 온라인 설문으로 129명의 게임이용자를 대상으로 색 선택 행동과 자아존중감을 측정하였다. 연구 결과 색 선택 행동은 4개의 요인-색채 둔감성, 유행추종, 개성표현, 캐릭터이미지와의 적합성-으로 구분되었다. 색선택 행동 4개의 하위 요인을 기준으로 군집분석한 결과 색 선택 행동 유형은 각각 색 분화형, 유행추종형, 색 둔감형으로 구분되었다. 색 선택 행동 유형과 자아존중감과의 관계에서는 자아존중감 하위 범주 중 부정적인 자기평가, 타인의 의견에 대한 걱정, 의존성의 세 가지 하위 범주에서 색 선택 행동 유형에 따른 차이가 유의미하게 나타났다. 한편 자의식 차원에서는 색 선택 행동 유형간 유의미한 차이가 발견되지 않았다. 유행추종형은 다른 두 유형에 비해 상대적으로 자아존중감 수준이 낮음을 확인할 수 있었다. 반대로 색 둔감형은 다른 두 유형에 비해 상대적으로 자아 존중감 수준이 높았다. 색 분화형은 유행추종형과 색 둔감형의 중간 수준의 자아존중감을 볼 수 있었다. 유행추종형은 자기의 외부에서, 색 둔감형은 자기의 내부에서 색과 관련된 자신에 대한 가치감의 소재와 근원을 찾는 특성이 있다고 해석할 수 있다. 본 연구는 온라인 RPG 게임에서 게임이용자들의 색 선택의 심리적 기제를 확인하고 색 선택 유형별로 자아존중감과의 관계를 확인함으로써 색 선택 행동의 심리적 기제를 밝히려는 기초연구라는 점에 의의가 있다. 추후에는 게임이용자들의 색 선택 행동을 보다 포괄적으로 이해하기 위해 게임이용자들이 가지고 있는 공통적인 색이미지와 개별적인 색이미지 및 색이미지의 심리적 구조를 알아보기 위한 색채감성연구가 필요할 것이다. 이러한 연구들은 게임을 제작할 때 캐릭터 디자인과 아이템 디자인에 어떠한 색을 사용해야 되는지 방향을 설정하는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

A 3D Terrain Reconstruction System using Navigation Information and Realtime-Updated Terrain Data (항법정보와 실시간 업데이트 지형 데이터를 사용한 3D 지형 재구축 시스템)

  • A terrain is an essential element for constructing a virtual world in which game characters and objects make various interactions with one another. Creating a terrain requires a great deal of time and repetitive editing processes. This paper presents a 3D terrain reconstruction system to create 3D terrain in virtual space based on real terrain data. In this system, it converts the coordinate system of the height maps which are generated from a stereo camera and a laser scanner from global GPS into 3D world using the x and z axis vectors of the global GPS coordinate system. It calculates the movement vectors and the rotation matrices frame by frame. Terrain meshes are dynamically generated and rendered in the virtual areas which are represented in an undirected graph. The rendering meshes are exactly created and updated by correcting terrain data errors. In our experiments, the FPS of the system was regularly checked until the terrain was reconstructed by our system, and the visualization quality of the terrain was reviewed. As a result, our system shows that it has 3 times higher FPS than other terrain management systems with Quadtree for small area, improves 40% than others for large area. The visualization of terrain data maintains the same shape as the contour of real terrain. This system could be used for the terrain system of realtime 3D games to generate terrain on real time, and for the terrain design work of CG Movies.

Storing and Retrieving Motion Capture Data based on Motion Capture Markup Language and Fuzzy Search (MCML 기반 모션캡처 데이터 저장 및 퍼지 기반 모션 검색 기법)

  • Motion capture technology is widely used for manufacturing animation since it produces high quality character motion similar to the actual motion of the human body. However, motion capture has a significant weakness due to the lack of an industry wide standard for archiving and retrieving motion capture data. In this paper, we propose a framework to integrate, store and retrieve heterogeneous motion capture data files effectively. We define a standard format for integrating different motion capture file formats. Our standard format is called MCML (Motion Capture Markup Language). It is a markup language based on XML (eXtensible Markup Language). The purpose of MCML is not only to facilitate the conversion or integration of different formats, but also to allow for greater reusability of motion capture data, through the construction of a motion database storing the MCML documents. We propose a fuzzy string searching method to retrieve certain MCML documents including strings approximately matched with keywords. The method can be used to retrieve desired series of frames included in MCML documents not entire MCML documents.

Design of A Distributed Server System for Supporting Enormous Users Using Blocks (블록을 이용한 대규모 사용자 지원 분산 서버 시스템 설계)

  • In this paper, I propose a distributed game server system which has flexibility of enormous game character's processing in MMORPG using block scheme. I proposed game servers in distributed system grouped with zone which charge of each map, and the game servers in this zone divide game map into several unit blocks and process distributing blocks to game servers according to its performance. I proposed distributed game server system using block scheme can add/drop game map to/from easily through block process method in game and communication servers. Therefore, my proposed system can enormous character processing and add user created game map to existed game map easily in the future as well. Also, my scheme increases the system utilization and upgrades system stability by dynamic distribution of game map according to the number of characters and performance of servers.

Trajectory Rectification of Marker using Confidence Model (신뢰도 모델을 이용한 마커 궤적 재조정)

  • Motion capture system is widely used nowadays in the entertainment industry like movies, computer games and broadcasting. This system consist of several high resolution and high speed CCD cameras and expensive frame grabbing hardware for image acquisition. KAIST VR laboratory focused on low cost system for a few years and have been developed a LAN based optical motion capture system. But, by using low cost system some problems like occlusion, noise and swapping of markers' trajectory can be occurred. And more labor intensive work is needed for post-processing process. In this thesis, we propose a trajectory rectification algorithm by confidence model of markers attached on actor. Confidence model is based on graph structure and consist of linkage, marker and frame confidence. To reduce the manual work in post-processing, we have to reconstruct the marker graph by maximizing the frame confidence.

Interactive Animation of Articulated Bodies using a Procedural Method (절차적 방법을 이용한 다관절체의 대화형 동작생성)

  • In interactive environments including computer games and virtual reality applications, we have increased need for interactive control of articulated body motions. Recently, physically based methods including constrained dynamics techniques are introduced to this area, in order to produce more realistic animation sequences. However, they are hard to achieve real-time control of articulated bodies, due to their heavy computations. In this paper, we present a procedural method for interactive animation of articulated bodies. In our method, each object of the constrained body is first moved according to their physical properties and external forces, without considering any constraints. Then, the locations of objects are adjusted to satisfy given constraints. Through adapting this two-stage approach, we have avoided the solving of large linear systems of equations, to finally achieve the interactive animation of articulated bodies. We also present a few example sequences of animations, which are interactively generated on PC platforms. This method can be easily applied to character animations in virtual environments.
