  • In this study, the relationship between social support and adolescent mental health was examined. A primary aim was to investigate how family, school, and friends affect adolescent mental health including depression, stress, and anger issues. This study also intended to investigate the indirect effect of these factors through the mediator, problem drinking. The study used survey data collected from the "2010 The Study on Mental Health of Korean Adolescents" conducted by National Youth Policy Institute, and 942 subjects were selected for this study. The study hypotheses were tested using SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) analysis. Analyses revealed that the appropriate functions and roles of the family members had the effect of promoting mental health of adolescents. Inappropriate functions and roles of the family members induced problem drinking, and this eventually had a negative impact on mental health causing depression, stress, and angel problems. Results also showed that having more friends who drink alcohol or smoke cigarette had no direct effect on the mental health of adolescents; however, there was an indirect effect through the mediator variable, problem drinking. The finding of this study revealed the need and importance of appropriate social support system and environment in order to promote mental health of adolescents.

  • The purpose of this study was to look into how social support for high school students was affecting suicidal ideation and verify how the moderating effect worked on risk factors in the relationship between social support and suicidal ideation. Specifically, three sub-factors of social support were classified into friend support, teacher support, and parent support, and were set as independent variables. In addition, suicidal ideation was dependent variables, gender, grade level, and school type as moderating variables. The main research results are as follows. First, teacher support, friend support, and parent support all appeared to have a significant negative effect on suicidal ideation. Second, the suicidal thoughts were higher in female students than in male students than in male students and in students of general high school than in those of vocational high school. Third, support from friends and parents was more effects in reducing suicidal thoughts for female students than male students. Fourth, the effect that teacher support that support and parent support reduce suicidal thoughts was greater for first graders than second graders. Bases on the results of the analysis, interviews were also conducted with high school teachers. Through the results of this study, I would like to propose practical measures to alleviate social problems related to suicide in high school students and to provide basic data for policy measures.

  • This study aimed to exam the mediating effects of relational factors between family deficiency and community spirit in adolescence. Relation factors were composed of some factors, parents relation, peer relation, teacher relation, neighbor relation. Using samples from Korean Youth Panel Study(KYPS) 2012, authors analyzed 4,362, 6th grader and 9th grader, with a hierarchical regression to answer research questions proposed by the study. Results showed that the level of community spirit vary with significant in gender, age, health, family deficiency. Among control factors, girls, grade, recognition of health, earning affected the community spirit. In the relationship between family deficiency and community spirit in adolescence was proven to be influential. In conclusion, the researcher's hypothesized research model between relational factors and community spirit was proved to be true. Therefore this study suggested that adolescents in family deficiency were needed to be boosted a many relational factors. Finally, it remarked the limits of the study and the suggestions for the further research direction.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of stress factors of student pilots on mental health, and to reduce the safe and efficient misconduct education and psychological disharmony by identifying the psychological buffering role of stress coping style and social support. In order to achieve the research purpose, a research model and hypothesis were presented based on previous studies, and regression analysis and mediation effect verification were conducted through a questionnaire survey of 202 student pilots. As a result of the analysis, factors such as flight stress, values stress, professor stress, and friend relationship stress have been shown to affect emotional conditions or psychological well-being. Also we found that the parameters of disengagement coping, family/friend support and organization Support had a mediating effect on the factors between student pilot stress and psychological health. Therefore, student pilots need to manage problems and negative emotions that may cause from flight training, value distractions, professor and friendships' relationship and it is suggested that organization support for training and safety related to emotional support and delinquency of family and friends.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among stress, smartphone addiction, and depression of university students and whether depression is mediators in the relationship between stress and smartphone addiction. For this purpose, data were collected from May 1st to 31, 2017 from 400 university students, and analyzed 381 valid ones. Frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis were used as analysis methods; and the Soble test was conducted in addition to verification of mediator effect according to procedures of Baron & Kenny(1986) for verification of mediator effect. The results of this study are as follows. First, stress of the subjects was positively correlated with depression(employment stress r=.353, economic stress r=.193, heterosexual relationship stress r=.138) and smartphone addiction(employment stress r=.262, economic stress r=.178, heterosexual relationship stress r=.190). Second, depression was a statistically significant partial mediator between employment-stress and smartphone addiction(Z=2.7151, p<.001). Based on the results of this study, I proposed education/counseling programs that can relieve employment-stress and depression.

  • This study was attempted to examine the effectiveness of mobile-based military WithYou programs. The research design was a quasi-experimental study with one group pretest-posttest design. Data were collected from 17 December to 23 December 2020. 42 and 37 members of the Air base in City C participated in the pretest and posttest, respectively. A video education program developed to inspire bystander intervention efficacy and the intention of helping peers and strangers was provided on mobile. The data collected before and after attending the program were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test. The results showed that mobile-based military WithYou program was effective in increasing the intention to help friends and others. Attempts to develop and apply educational content using mobile devices for military personnel will be meaningful.

  • This study aims to investigate peer socialization processes on early adolescents' prosocial behaviors in friendship networks. A longitudinal social network model (SIENA) was used to disentangle socialization process in prosocial behavior. Participants were fourth and fifth graders in South Korea from 39 elementary school classrooms (N=1,040, 48% girls). According to results, students select friends based on similarity in prosocial behavior (peer selection) was found in both prosocial behaviors. Peer influence effects were also observed in prosocial behaviors. Also, moderating effect of social relatedness was significant. In classes with high social relatedness, influence effect of prosocial behavior was significant. As a contrast, prosocial behavior was not socialized in classes with the low social relatedness. Results suggest that peernetwork play a critical role in the co-evolution of friendships, and prosocial behaviors. Findings yielded the importance of the socialization process and promoting healthy peer socialization environment.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effects of a size of the friendship network and quality of friendship on the associations between mutual antipathy and maladjustment. The subjects were 678 fifth- and sixth-grade primary school children who were recruited from a public school in Bucheon City. The Peer Nomination Inventory was used to assess mutual antipathy, peer victimization, social withdrawal, aggression, and the friendship network. The children were given a classroom roster and asked to nominate up to three classmates who fit each description. Additionally, the children reported the quality of their friendships using the Friendship Quality Scale. Each child was asked to indicate his or her one best friend and rate how accurately a sentence describe done of their best friends on the scale. The results revealed that the friendship network and friendship quality significantly moderated the relationships between mutual antipathy and social withdrawal, and peer victimization. The magnitude of the association between mutual antipathy and social withdrawal was not significant for large friendship networks and high quality friendships. Although mutual antipathy was significantly associated with peer victimization, the association was stronger at lower levels than at higher levels of the friendship network and quality. However, there was no moderating effect of the friendship network and quality on the association between mutual antipathy and aggression. A large friendship network and high quality friendship could be protective factors among those who have mutual antipathy in peer groups.
