The present study seeks to find the effect of oral health status that parents recognized, oral health habit and food intake on existence of decalcified teeth and decayed teeth. Participants were 293 infants aged 18-24 months who visited C dental clinic in Kyungki province between January and December 2010. Questionnaires and oral exam results were used and statistically analyzed by the SPSS program. Fisher's Exact and chi-square test were used to analyze the data. The 18-20 month-old age group had the highest rate of decalcified teeth with 36.4% while the 23-24 month-old age group had the highest rate of decayed teeth with 37.0%. Bottle feeding showed correlation with decalcified teeth, and decayed teeth. Parents were able to recognize decayed teeth and decalcified teeth. Group 2 food(soda/soft drinks/sugared fruit juice) was related to decalcified teeth and decayed teeth(p<.001). Group 4 food (cake/cookies/doughnut/dried fruit/banana) and group 5food(caramel/candy/chocolate bar) were both related to decalcified teeth(p<.001). As the result of dental examination, dental treatment was highly needed for the 21-22 month-old age group(89.3%), and preventive treatment and plaque control were highly needed for the 18-20 month-old age group(94.5%). The results concluded that 18-24 months was the critical period for children's oral health, therefore organized oral health education for parents is necessary.

Fusion is defined as union of two separate tooth buds at some stage in their development with confluence of dentin and characterized by separate root canal and large single crown, while gemination is defined as an attempt of the single tooth bud to incompletely divide and usually result in a single root with one root canal and two completely or incompletely separated crowns. It is sometimes difficult to decide whether an abnormally large tooth is the result of fusion of a normal and a supernumerary tooth, or of gemination; use of the term 'Double tooth' may make the clinicians avoid this difficulty(Brook & Winter). Commonly there are no symptoms, but the problems associated with these anomalies include esthetics, possible loss of arch length and delayed or ectopic eruption of the permanent teeth, caries along the line of demarcation, and periodontal disease. Commonly, it dose not need to be treated in primary dentition but in case of permanent dentition, it may be requested to be treated due to esthetics and other problems. In our case, a 8 years old girl showed a Double tooth, we attained the favorable results by performing hemisection with apexification.

Triple tooth is rare in primary dentition; it is the abnormal fusion of three teeth. There are a few reports of double teeth, but triple teeth are rare. These multiple teeth create several clinical problems, not only esthetic problems but also a high caries susceptibility, congenital missing permanent tooth germ(s), orthodontic problems, and periodontal problems. They also make it difficult to perform pulp treatment because of the complex tooth structure. A 1-year 7-month-old male underwent a partial pulpotomy with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) when pulp exposure caused by deep caries occurred at a maxillary anterior triple tooth in the first case. The second case was a 1-year 9-month-old male presenting with a fracture line at a mandibular anterior triple tooth. After removing the fractured fragment, a pulpectomy was performed at the remaining primary lateral incisors. Specific complications were not observed during 24 and 6 months of follow-up, respectively.

The Dandy-Walker syndrome is a relatively rare congenital malformation occurring about one in 25,000-35,000 pregnancies. It is characterized by hydrocephalus, cystic dilatation of the fourth ventricle, complete or partial absence of the cerebellar vermis, and other various extra-CNS malformations. We report a dental caries treatment of a 4-year old girl with Dandy-Walker syndrome and partial trisomy 9q. The patient visited Seoul National University Dental Hospital due to multiple caries. The cause of multiple caries is mainly presumed as patient's eating habit caused by her general condition. She was still using milk bottle because she was having difficulties swallowing solid food due to breathing problem while eating. The treatment was performed under general anesthesia considering patient's condition; delayed development, very poor cooperation and respiratory problem. The dental procedure was successfully conducted and there were no postoperative complications. In consideration of her eating habit and oral hygiene problem, regular check appointment was recommended.

This study aimed to analyze the preoperative factors of immature first molars treated with vital pulp therapy and to find out their correlation in pediatric patients. From May 2014 to January 2020, 523 patients and 1,242 immature first molars were investigated. Factors including age, sex, tooth location, Molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH), caries cavity location, and history of previous restoration were evaluated. As a result of the study, the vital pulp therapy group had 5.56 times more MIH, 3.39 times more mesial cavities, and 8.73 times more distal cavities. In order to avoid vital pulp therapy in immature first molar, early diagnosis and active management of MIH and preventive treatment of mesial and distal caries are necessary after its immediate eruption.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the antimicrobial activity on the dental bur with fluoride for S. mutans. Materials and methods: 0 ppm, 300 ppm, 500 ppm, 1,000 ppm, 1,450 ppm fluoride ion is added to a specimen. S. mutans was incubated for 24 hours, the number of S. mutans were counted. Kruskal-Wallis and MannWhitney analysis were used SPSS 25.0 (IBM SPSS 25.0, Chicago, IL, USA). Results: The mean S. mutans counts of 0 ppm, 300 ppm, 500 ppm, 1,000 ppm, and 1,450 ppm were 374.0 ± 12.6, 251.0 ± 66.7, 111.4 ± 35.6, 41.6 ± 11.7 and 13.2 ± 4.6, respectively. All groups except the control and 300 ppm showed statistically significant. Conclusion: Thus, more than 500 ppm fluoride ion showed the statistically significant antimicrobial activity. 1,450 ppm group showed the highest antimicrobial activity. This study showed the clinical possibility for dental caries protection and antimicrobial activity of dental bur.

To evaluate the quantitative nature of laser fluorescence(LF) and dye-enhanced laser fluorescence(DELF) on early enamel caries, artificial caries were induced on the bovine enamels and argon laser was irradiated on the surfaces of lesions. Fluorescence radiance from enamel specimen was recorded with CCD camera which was connected to PC image analyzing system. The difference of fluorescence of radiance(DFR) between the carious and the sound enamel in each sample of the LF and the DELF groups were measured by image analyzing program. The DFR of lesion surfaces measured with laser fluorescence and lesion depths were evaluated and the results are as follows: The caries lesions were discriminated from sound enamels by the darkness with LF and by the brightness with DELF. The DELF was more sensitive than the LF at the earlier stage of demineralization.
The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health states of elderly people over the age of 65 from the city of Seongnam, including the number of present permanent tooth, dental caries, rate of treatment need, CPITN and use of prosthesis, in a bid to lay the foundation for improving elderly oral health programs. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The DMF rate of the male senior citizens stood at 98.3 percent, and that of the women numbered 99.0 percent and DMFT index 20.8. 2. The number of present permanent tooth excluded the third molars was 13. 3. Regarding CPITN, $CPITN_1$ was 74.9 percent, and $CPITN_2$ was 56.2 percent. $CPITN_3$ was 8.0 percent. 4. The rate of full denture wearing of the elderly people was 26.1 percent in the upper part and 17.8 percent in the lower part. And their rate of full denture need was 7.4 percent in the upper part and 4.3 percent in the lower part. 5. The aims of this study were to compare the accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of cnventional visual examination, radiography and a new laser fluorescence method, KaVo Diagnodent, for the detection of occlusal caries lesions. One hundred sound human premolars and molars which had no restorations or interproximal cavities were tested by three methods. Tooth lesions depth was assessed at histologic examination using Caries detector dye The following results were obtained. 1. Diagnodent show 7.8 in sound tooth, 25.4 in initial caries, 30.5 in enamel caries, and 53.8 in dentin caries with average score 2. Spearman and Pearson relation coefficient was high between tooth-specimen test with dye and Diagnodent(0.736, 0.619), visual examination(0.664, 0.666), and was low between tooth-specimen test with dye and radiographic examination(P<0.01, total) 3. Accuracy of occlusal caries was highest on Diagnodent(65%) and lowest on radiographic examination(35%) 4. In initial caries, the sensitivity and specificity of Diagnodent method was the highest. In enamel caries, the sensitivity of visual examination was the highest and specificity of Diagnodent method was the highest. In dentinal caries, the sensitivity and specificity of Diagnodent method was the highest and sensitivity of visual examination was the lowest.

Angelman syndrome is a rare disorder caused by deletion or inactivation of genes on the maternally inherited chromosome 15. This neurodevelopmental disorder is characterized by developmental and intellectual delay, speech impairment, sleep disturbance, seizures, motor dysfunction, and frequent laughing or smiling. Orofacial characteristics include a prominent mandible, large mouth, prominent cheeks, a tendency to rest the tongue between the dental arches, excessive drooling, and excessive chewing behavior. Patients with this syndrome usually require general anesthesia even in a simple operation, because of risk of perioperative seizure during dental procedure. This is a case report about dental treatment of a 3-year-old female patient with Angelman syndrome under general anesthesia. This case suggests that the dental treatment under general anesthesia can be considered a safe component for the uncooperative, delayed developmental patients with underlying disease. Also, periodic dental exam appointment should be made to provide the patients with preventive treatments and to make them remain familiar with the dental environment.
