  • In this study,we conducted an injection molding analysis of metal powder materials for the development of flanges, which are necessary adapters for optical communication. The metal powder injection molding process is a technique for producing an injection molded article having a complicated shape by mixing ceramic or stainless powder and binders. It is used to produce products which require complex processing technology or for which the productivity is low. The purpose of this study is to minimize the manufacturing processing of products which are manufactured through existing mechanical processing procedures. For the injection molding analysis, we mixed stainless STS316 metal powder with binders at a ratio of 6 to 4 to make molding materials consisting of granular pellets. Then, three-dimensional modeling and meshing were carried out to obtain the optimal injection molding analysis conditions(molding temperature, melting temperature, injection time, injection temperature, injection pressure, packing time and cooling time). As a result of the analysis, it was discovered that the inlet became available 13.29 seconds after the first injection. Also, as the flowing and packing in the melt through the sprue, runner and gate were stable, it is expected that good molds can be manufactured.

  • The dried needles (1.5 kg) of Picea abies Karsten were ground, extracted with acetone-$H_2O$ (7:3, v/v), concentrated, and fractionated with a series of n-hexane, methylene chloride, ethyl acetate and water on a separatory funnel. Each fraction was freeze dried, then a portion of ethyl acetate soluble powder was chromatographed on a Sephadex LH-20 column using a series of aqueous methanol and ethanol-n-hexane mixture as eluents. The isolated compounds were identified by cellulose TLC, $^1H$-, $^{13}C$-NMR, FAB and EI-MS. (+)-catechin (compound I), (-)-epicatechin (compound II), kaempferol-3-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranoside (compound III), 4-hydroxyacetophenone (compound IV) were isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble fraction and (+)-catechin (compound I), protocatechuic acid (compound V) were isolated from the $H_2O$ soluble fraction of P. abies needle. The antioxidative activities of each fraction and the isolated compounds were tested by DPPH radical scavenging method, and EtOAc soluble fraction, (+)-catechin and (-)-epicatechin showed similar values to ${\alpha}$-tocopherol and BHT as controls.

  • Commonly cation exchange membranes have been used for vanadium redox flow batteries. However, a severe vanadium ion cross-over causes low energy efficiency. Thus in this study, we prepared 3 different anion exchange membranes to investigate the effect on the membrane properties such as vanadium ion cross-over and long term stability. The base membranes were prepared by an electrolyte pore filling technique using vinyl benzyl chloride (VBC), divinylbenzene (DVB) within a porous polyethylene (PE) substrate. Then 3 different functional amines were introduced into the base membranes, respectively. These resulting membranes were evaluated by physico-chemical properties such as ion exchange capacity, dimensional stability, vanadium ion cross-over and membrane area resistance. Conclusively, TEA-functionalized membrane showed longest term stability than other membranes although all the membranes are similar to coulombic efficiency.

  • The Jinwon Pb-Zn deposit is located within the Precambrian Youngnam Massif. Ore mineralization at the Jinwon deposit occurred in quartz veins that filled fractures in the Hongjesa granite. Mineral paragenesis can be divided into two stages(stage I and II). Stage I, at which the precipitation of major ore minerals occurred, is further divided into two substages with paragenetic time based on minor fractures and discernible mineral assemblages: substage la is characterized by pyrite, arsenopyrite ($28.4{\sim}30.3$ atomic % As), pyrrhotite, magnetite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite ($13.1{\sim}16.0$ mole % FeS) assemblages; substage $I_a$ is represented by main precipitation of Zn, Pb minerals and is characterized by sphalerite ($15.1{\sim}19.0$ mole % FeS), galena, miargyrite, argentile assemblages. Stage II is economically barren quartz veins. Thermodynamics study is used to estimate changes in chemical conditions of the hydrothermal fluids during stage I mineralization, the main ore deposition period at the Jinwon hydrothermal system. The range of estimated sulfur fugacity ($fs_2$) was from $10^{-7}\;to\;10^{-16}$ atm and oxygen fugacity ($fo_2$) was in the range of $10^{-32.8}{\sim}10^{-38.5} atm$. Carbon dioxide fugacity ($fco_2$) was $<10^{-0.6} atm$.

  • The Cretaceous Gajok gold-silver deposit within porphyry granite is located nearby the Cretaceous Pungam basin at the northeastern area in Republic of Korea. The Gajok gold-silver deposit is distinctively composed of a multiple-complex hydrothermal veins with comb, crustiform chalcedony quartz and vug textures, implying it was formed relatively shallower depth. The hypogene open-space filling veins could be divided into 5 paragenetic sequences, increasing tendency of Ag-rich electrum and Ag-phases with increasing paragenetic time. Electrum with high gold contents (${\sim}50$ atomic % Au) as well as sphalerite with high FeS contents (${\sim}6$ mole % FeS) are representative ore minerals in the middle stage. The late stage is characterized by silver-phase such like native silver and/or argentite, coexisting with Ag-rich electrum ($10{\sim}30$ atomic % Au) and Fe-poor sphalerite (< 1 mole % FeS). The ore-forming fluids evolution started at relatively high temperature and salinity (${\sim}360^{\circ}C$, ${\sim}7\;wt.%$ eq. NaCl) and were evolved by dilution and mixing mechanisms on the basis of fluid inclusion study. The gold-silver mineralization proceeded from ore-forming fluids containing greater amounts of less-evolved meteoric waters(${\delta}^{18}O$; $-0.6{\sim}-6.7\;%o$). These results imply that gold-silver mineralization of the Cretaceous Gaiok deposit formed at shallow-crustal level and could be categorized into low-sulfidation epithermal type, related to Cretaceous igneous activity.

  • Copper is an essential transition metal involving in various biogeochemical processes. With the recent advances in analytical techniques and mass spectrometry, such as MC-ICP-MS, it is possible to measure Cu isotopes, which allows us to understand various biogeochemical processes in detail. Nonetheless, few studies have been performed in South Korea. In this study, we compared two purification methods previously reported using an anion exchange resin ($AG^{(R)}$ MP-1M), developed the best method in our lab environment, and then verified it by measuring Cu isotopic compositions in two USGS geological reference materials (BHVO-2 and BIR-1a). Although all matrix cations causing mass bias were effectively removed through both two methods with the yield of better than 95%, the method using the mixture of HCl and $H_2O_2$ only displays Cu isotopic compositions, in excellent agreement with reported values within the error. The method developed in this study is expected to be commonly applied to earth and environmental sciences.

  • The comparison work was conducted for the methanol steam reforming among commercial Cu-based catalysts, viz. ICI-M45, which is for the methanol synthesis, MDC-3 and MDC-7, which are for the water-gas shift reaction. The catalytic activity for the water-gas shift reaction was also compared over three catalysts. Among them, MDC-7 showed the highest methanol conversion and formation rate of hydrogen and carbon dioxide at 473 K for the methanol steam reforming. To find out any promotional effect between ICI-M45 and MDC-7, three different packing methods with these two catalysts were examined. However, no synergistic effect was observed. The catalytic activity for watergas shift reaction decreased in the following order: MDC-7 > MDC-3 > ICI-M45. The highest activity of MDC-7 for the methanol steam reforming as well as the water-gas shift reaction can be due to its high surface area, copper dispersion, and an adequate Cu/Zn ratio.

  • This paper aims to interpret the transformation process of town plan of Gosan-up(高山), which was provincial administrative focus town in Josun dynasty, basing on morphological viewpoint. Morphological concepts, such as morphological frame, urban plan, kernel, colonization, route system, fixation line, fringe belt, plan unit & plan division, morphological period derived from the study of Conzen, M.R.G. and Caniggia, G. epidome district, break point, broken plot, urban fallow, privatization are adopted for the interpretation of urban form. Morphological period of Gosan can be divided in four ; formation of kernel & morphological structure, disintegration & redevelopment of the kernel, augmentative development of the kernel & formation of modern epidome district, outwards expanding of urbanized area, transition & reorganization of epidome district. Especially public leading projects such as construction of new regional connection road and public facilities such as myeon(township) office, agricultural cooperatives federation office, market, are main factors of morphological transformation of townplan. In the early stage, under the Japanese imperialism, construction of the new matrix route(Gosan-ro) through the kernel and followed planned routes gave way to disintegrating traditional areal plan unit and forming small block plan units in administrative facilities area. And linear plan units with commercial buildings were formed along the new matrix route and planned route adjacent to periodical market. In the latter stage, with development of public facilities, private sectors' large circulation institution and terminal outside the kernel with planned routes formed areal block based plan units with commercial and public buildings. And part of the spatial area with the linear plan unit were turned into urban fallow. With the transformation of town plan, new roads outside the kernel have substituted for traditional fixation line of waterway with road and topographical feature. Fringe belts were made successively along the new road and around the major intersections outside of existing urbanized area. Land use in fringe belts, constituting of outer locational tendency early on formation, was gradually replaced with commercial & business buildings.

  • Turbochargers are an effective device to reduce the fuel consumption. In this study, the mass flow rate of pulsating flow in the twin-scroll turbocharger for the gasoline engine of passenger vehicles was measured. Pulsating flow was achieved using a pulse generator and the mass flow rate of the unsteady pulsating flow was analyzed by comparing it with those of the steady flow. The pulse generator consisted of a rotating upper plate and a fixed lower plate. To measure the mass flow rate of unsteady flow, the orifice flow meter equipped with the difference pressure transducer was used. To analyze the low speed performance of the turbocharger, the measurement was carried out in the speed of turbocharger from 60,000rpm to 100,000rpm. The mass flow parameters of the unsteady pulsating flow showed a large difference compared to those of the steady flow. Those of the unsteady flow showed the hysteresis loop surrounding the mass flow parameters of the steady flow and the maximum variation of the mass flow parameters were 5.0 times those of the steady flow. This phenomenon is the result of the filling and emptying the turbine volute space due to pulsating flow.

  • This study was conducted to establish an analytical method using an HPLC system equipped with a photodiode array (PDA) detector for the quality control of raw materials and cosmeceuticals containing fucoxanthin as an active ingredient. The column was octadecyl-functionalized silica gel and the measurement wavelength of the PDA was set to 499 nm. To validate the analytical method, the linearity of the calibration curve, detection limit, reproducibility and recovery rate were investigated and good results were obtained. The correlation coefficient of the calibration curve was 1.000 and the linearity was good in the concentration range of 0.5 ~ 100 ppm. Moreover, the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.1 ppm and the limit of quantification (LOQ) was 0.5 ppm. The results of the peak reproducibility test used for evaluating the system suitability showed that the RSD (n = 5) of the peak area was 2.0% and that of the retention time was 0.09%. In the spiking test, the recovery rate was $101.6{\pm}0.77%$. The fucoxanthin contents of the two kinds of fucoxanthin-containing raw materials were $49.6{\pm}3.3%$ and $1.03{\pm}0.016%$, respectively. In addition, the fucoxanthin content in the test product, which was intended to be 150 ppm, was $156.7{\pm}4.7ppm$. From the above results, it was concluded that this method could be applied to the quantitative analysis of fucoxanthin in cosmeceuticals.
