  • In this paper, performance of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system in an impulsive noise environment is analyzed. Here, it is verified that performance of the OFDM system with window nonlinearity, which is one of the impulsive noise mitigation algorithms, is dependent on the over-sampling rate and the size of window. With respect to the variation of those parameters, we also provide an appropriate region of threshold values that control amplitudes of the sampled waveform of received signals. As a result, a new combination of parameters which improves error performance of OFDM system in an impulsive noise environment as compared to the previously reported parameters is presented.

  • The Morison's formula has been commonly used in the determination of wave forces of sinusoidal waves acting on coastal or ocean structures of pile-supported type. In the case that plunging breakers are incident, the structures are subjected to impulsive breaking wave forces which are normally much larger than the Morison's. However, the impulsive breaking wave forces act in a very short time, and hence a dynamic structural analysis should be done to determine whether or not to include the forces in the design force items. In the present study, numerical methods for calculating the dynamic response of a vertically located cylindrical pile are developed. Static and dynamic displacements are then compared through several example analyses varying the structural properties of pile.

  • Impact forces are acting on the fore part of a body entering water and those are function o the shape of the fore part and entrance angle. In this paper, impact forces are computed for the flat faced body with arbitrary entrance angle The geometric characteristics of the wetted surface of the body are complicated. The surface is divided into several smooth parts and each of them is represented by a bi-cubic B-spline. The free surface condition, $\phi=0$, is applied at the undisturbed free surface and he boundary value problem is analized by using Green's function.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to verify the degree of clinical practice transition shock, resilience, and academic burnout of dental hygiene students, and analyze factors affecting academic burnout. Methods: From September 1 to September 20, 2022, this study collected data from 201 dental hygiene students who experienced clinical practice, and subsequently conducted a t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS Statistics 22. Results: The transition shock and resilience showed a significantly negative correlation (r=-0.211), transition shock and academic burnout showed a significantly positive correlation (r=0.484), and resilience and academic burnout showed a significantly negative correlation (r=-0.568). Regarding factors affecting academic burnout, academic burnout increased when the transition shock was greater (β=0.263, p<0.001), major satisfaction after clinical practice was lower (β=0.180, p<0.05), and the average grades were lower (β=0.169, p<0.01). Academic burnout decreased when resilience was greater (β=-0.435, p<0.001). Conclusions: To prevent clinical practice transition shock and academic burnout, and to increase the resilience of dental hygiene students, it would be necessary to establish learning strategies, change the educational environment, and establish a systematic clinical practice management program.

  • The Fiber/Metal Laminates (FMLs) have been developed as a new composite material for aerospace application to reduce weight and improve damage tolerance. In this study, firstly FMLs were manufactured and the tensile test was performed to investigate the mechanical properties of FMLs. Furthermore, impact behavior of the low velocity on FMLs which consisted of different types of aluminum or fiber/epoxy layers was tested by the drop weight impact tester based on the different impact energy conditions. The load-time and energy-time curves were employed to evaluate the impact performance of different specimens. Moreover, finite element analysis (FEA) was also performed to simulate the tensile test and impact behavior of FMLs under the same conditions with the tests and good agreements have been obtained between the FEA predictions and experimental results.

  • In order to investigate the possibility of EPDM micro cellular pad (MCP) as an impact sound insulation product, we studied static/dynamic properties and vibration transfer characteristics of EPDM MCP depending on shape, thickness, degrees of foaming by using material test system (MTS) and lab scale mock-up test apparatus. Static/dynamic rigidity is increased when shape is simple. thickness and degrees of foaming low. We could see that dynamic stiffness is proportional to the transmissibility of EPDM MCP. When dynamic stiffness is increased, characteristic peak at transmissibility curve moves high frequency range or snows increase of maximum value of transmissibility. For lab scale mock-up test and finite element method, EPDM MCP shows low vibration velocity and superior mode shape to just concrete plus slab structure. We could confirm that possibility of EPDM MCP as a impact sound insulation product is high.

  • This research concentrates on the potential explosion hazards that could arise from unforeseen accidents in the rapidly proliferating hydrogen refueling stations and Energy Storage System(ESS) facilities. It underscores the pivotal role of structural protection technology in alleviating such risks. The research contributes primary data for the formulation of structure protection design by assessing the impact resistance across various reinforcement techniques used in cement composites. The experimental results elucidate that reinforced concrete, serving as the quintessential structural material, exhibits a 20% advancement in impact resistance in comparison to its non-reinforced counterpart. In situations typified by rapid loads, such as those seen with high-velocity impacts, the reinforcement of the matrix with fibers is demonstrably more beneficial than local reinforcement. These insights accentuate the importance of judiciously choosing the reinforcement method to augment impact resistance in structural design.

  • In the present paper, as a way of reducing heavyweight impact sounds, in particular, among floor impact sounds which have come to the forefront as a social issue recently, a floor joist slab is proposed that is expected to bring an effect of reducing heavyweight impact sounds through a shift in the natural frequency by installing a floor joist on a flat-type slab to increase the rigidity of the floor slab, differently from the existing method that increases the thickness of floor slab, and the heavyweight impact sound characteristics depending on the floor joist height and interval are interpretively analyzed. As a result of the analysis, though a trend is shown where the sound pressure level decreases as the slab thickness of floor joist increases, and as no difference is shown when thickness is above a certain value, it is thought that there is a threshold for the effect of an increase in floor thickness on blockage of heavyweight impact sounds. Also, as an increase in floor rigidity resulting from an increase in the floor joist height and a decrease in the interval does not lead to a consistent increase in the performance of blocking heavyweight impact sounds, it is thought that a different floor joist height and interval should be applied to each type of house to expect optimum performance of blocking heavyweight impact sounds, and an increase of 100mm in the floor joist height or a decrease of about 100mm in the interval is expected to bring an effect of reducing heavyweight impact sounds by about 1dB to 2dB.

  • Using the theory of linear piezoelectricity, the dynamic response of a central crack in a functionally graded piezoelectric ceramic under anti-plane shear impact is analyzed. We assume that the properties of the functionally graded piezoelectric material vary continuously along the thickness. By using the Laplace and Fourier transform, the problem is reduced to two pairs of dual integral equations and then into Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. Numerical values on the dynamic stress intensity factors are presented to show the dependence of the gradient of material properties and electric loading.

  • This study has been investigated the Influence of layer thickness on the mechanical properties of cross laminated carbon fiber/epoxy composites. And also the difference of mechanical properties between cross laminated composites of unidirectional prepreg and fabric prepreg has been investigated. Experimental results are showed that the Interlamina Shear Strength(ILSS) of cross laminated carbon fiber/epoxy composites decreased with increasing thickness of unit ply and the decree of delamination in the laminated composites increased as ILSS decreased. Fracture toughness and impact values were found to increase as delamination occurs to some extent in the laminated composites. It Is also shown thats mechanical properties of cross laminates from unidirectional prepreg were better than those of cross laminates from fabric prepreg.
