  • As the demand for underground space increases, many researchers have been studying the load reduction method using high compressible materials to solve for the stability problem of the overhead load and for the increase of the earth pressure which decreases the function of the underground structure. This paper determines the optimum soft zone and the effect of the using EPS Geofoam as a load reduction material to arch structures. A finite element analysis program, ABAQUS, is used to analyze the soil-structure interaction and the behavior of buried arch structures considering different four EPS Geofoam forms to confirm the most conservative shape. The optimum cross-sectional shape was determined by comparing the results of earth pressure reduction rate in accordance with the change of span-rise ratio and span length of the arch structure. It was confirmed that the earth pressure generated in the arch structure using the optimal soft zone selected by the numerical analysis was reduced by an average of 78%. In this study, the effect of EPS Geofoam on soil pressure reduction and its applicability to underground arch structures will provide an economical and conservative way to design underground structures and will help to increase the usability of deep underground space.

  • Purpose: This study was to compare differences between both eyes in corneal powers, axial lengths, anterior chamber depths in anisometropia and isometropia, and to investigate the relationship between anisometropia and refractive components. Methods: The subject was a total of 83 patients, anisometropia 45 patients (90 eyes) and isometropia 38 patients (76 eyes) from 2.7 to 15.3 years old, prescribed eyeglasses and contact lenses by refraction from July 2010 to August 2010 in Gwangju City B eye clinic. Axial length, anterior chamber depth, corneal curvature, and corneal refractive power were measured using IOL Master. Refractive error was measured using an Auto-refractometer. Results: Anisometropia was a statistically significant difference in axial length, binocular refractive components, refractive error, and axial length, Axial length/corneal radius (AL/CR) ratio showed a statistically significant difference in anisometropia and isometropia. The major cause of anisometropia all 45 subjects was the axial length. Among the refractive components axial length, AL/CR had a strong correlation, but corneal refractive power had no correlation. Anterior chamber depth had a weak correlation. Conclusions: This study found that refractive error was the most axial ametropia caused by the axial length. The main cause of anisometropia was the axial length, but refractive components had a weak correlation.

  • Gosan Yoon, Sundo's Gumswae-dong Garden Heritage has been designated as a National Historical Site 432 including Hyunsan old fortress wall. The site requires maintenance planning. For the plan, it also requires the consideration of Gosan's written documents describing the garden heritage and the site survey with on-site inspections for authentic maintenance approaches. It should be based on the thorough comprehension of historical remains. The site is a traditional ancient garden, so its approaches should be different with a historic structure and building. For the planning, the study conducts the interview of residents and experts, literature review, the investigation of historical materials, site survey, and the analysis of aerial photography. The results are following:5) Firstly, the paper suggests three types of an excavation area selection: core, recommend and investigation. Secondly, of 22 landscapes named by Gosan, it has the plan of guidance facilities, vegetation maintenance, safety facilities, landscape maintenance as view points, pathway maintenance, deck, and halting place. Thirdly, it also suggests pathway plan for authentic garden promenade according to the literature of Gumswaedong-Gi, an old map and aerial photography(1967, 1976, 1990), and interviews with residents. Fourthly, it suggests vegetation refurbishment at the site to check erection time and to require a preservation plan. In a case of no historic remains part, it also has a plan of amenities for visitors and wetlands for biodiversity of ecology and landscape. Finally, although it requires excavation and more historical evidences for the Hyunsan fortress wall, it suggests a maintenance plan of Pyeonchuksseong and Hyeopchuksseong partially.

  • Objectives : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS) is a progressive and incurable disease that causes degeneration of the motor neurons of the brain stem and spinal cord. The purpose of this study was to report the effectiveness of Sa-am acupuncture treatment on ALS patient. Methods : Following the stabilization period, a ALS patient respiratory figures(Et $C_{O2}$, Sp $_{O2}$, RR, pulse) were measured by using capnography & pulse oximetry for 30 minutes before acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture treatment such as lung tonification($SP_3(+){\cdot}LU_9(+){\cdot}HT_8(-){\cdot}LU_{10}(-)$), heart tonification($HT_9(+){\cdot}LR_1(+){\cdot}SI_8(-){\cdot}KI_{10}(-)$), liver tonification ($KI_{10}(+){\cdot}LR_8(+){\cdot}LU_8(-){\cdot}LR_4(-)$) were conducted for 5 days. Each Sa-am acupuncture treatment conducted at AM 7 : 00, AM 11 : 00, PM 4 : 30 of the day. During acupuncture treatment, the patient respiratory figures were measured equally for 30 minutes. The patient was treated by using Dong-bang acupuncture needles($0.30{\times}4.0$) and also stimulated using infra red. Results : The value of Et $C_{O2}$ has decreased more after Sa-am acupuncture lung tonification treatment than others. The value of pulse has decreased more after Sa-am acupuncture heart tonification treatment than others. The value of raspiration rate has decreased more after Sa-am acupuncture liver tonification treatment than others. And the value of Sp $O_2$ has increased more after Sa-am acupuncture liver tonification treatment than others. Conclusions : Although this study was subject to a few limitations, but it shows that Sa-am acupuncture treatment for ALS patients has a meaningful effect. This study needs to be developed further using a larger sample size to obtain more valuable and meaningful data.

  • Full-mouth reconstruction of a patient using dental implants is a challenge if there is vertical and horizontal bone resorption, since this includes the gingival area and restricts the position of the implants. however, hard- and soft-tissue grafting may allow the implants to be placed into the desired position. Although it is possible to regenerate lost tissues, an alternative is to use fixed detachable prostheses that restore the function and the esthetics of the gingiva and teeth. Various material combinations including metal/acrylic, metal/ceramic, and zirconia/ceramic have been used for constructing this type of restoration. Other problems include wear, separation or fracture of the resin teeth from the metal/acrylic prosthesis, chipping or fracture of porcelain from the metal/ceramic or zirconia/ceramic prosthesis, and fracture of the framework in some free-end prostheses. With virtually unbreakable, chip-proof, life-like nature, monolithic zirconia frameworks can prospectively replace other framework materials. This clinical report describes the restoration of a patient with complete fixed detachable maxillary and mandibular prostheses made of monolithic zirconia with dental implants. The occluding surfaces were made of monolithic zirconia, to decrease the risk of chipping or fracture. The prostheses were esthetically pleasing, and no clinical complications have been reported after two years.

  • The renowned Terzaghi's one-dimensional consolidation theory is not applicable to quantification of time-rate settlement for highly deformable soft clays such as dredged soil deposits. To deal with this special condition, a non-linear finite strain consolidation theory should be adopted to predict the settlement of dredged soil deposits including self-weight and surcharge-induced consolidation. It is of importance to determine the zero effective stress void ratio ($e_{00}$), which is the void ratio at effective stress equal to zero, and the relationships of void ratio-effective stress and of void ratio-hydraulic conductivity for characterizing non-linear finite strain consolidation behavior for deformable dredged soil deposits. The zero effective stress void ratio means a transitional status from sedimentation to self-weight consolidation of dredged soils. In this paper, laboratory procedures and equipments are introduced to measure such key parameters in the non-linear finite strain consolidation analysis. In addition, the non-linear finite strain consolidation parameters of the Incheon clay and kaolinite are evaluated with the aid of the proposed methods in this paper, which will be used as input parameters for the non-linear finite strain consolidation analyses being performed in the companion paper.

  • In case of prosthesis fabrication by CAD/CAM, location, area and contour of occlusal contacts can be adjusted so more functional occlusion can be acquired. Also, errors in a manufacturing process is reduced compared to cast metal prostheses and porcelain fused metal prostheses fabricated by conventional methods such as casting and porcelain build up. Therefore, prostheses by CAD/CAM show superior occlusion accuracy. Recently, virtual articulator function has been introduced to CAD/CAM system, which reproduces mandibular movement against maxilla. Thus, it is possible to consider occlusal interference in anterior/lateral movement as well as closing movement. There have been many studies on the marginal and internal fit of prostheses using zirconia but the occlusal fit of zirconia crown fabricated by CAD/CAM has not been researched as much. In this case report, 7 zirconia crowns were designed and fabricated by CAD/CAM for total 5 patients. The models of zirconia crowns before and after occlusal adjustment during intraoral try-in were scanned for occlusal contacts, which were compared to evaluate accuracy of prostheses and understand patterns of occlusal adjustment. Most of the occlusal adjustments were done on functional cusps and slopes of zirconia crown, and the magnitude of occlusal adjustment ranged from $15{\mu}m$ to $60{\mu}m$. In the zirconia crown fabricated with CAD/CAM systems, the occlusal adjustment is a necessary procedure, so additional procedures will be needed for compensating reduced mechanical properties.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of low temperature degradation (LTD) on the bonding strength of yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP). The push-shear bond test method was used to investigate the core-veneer bonding strength of industrially manufactured Y-TZP core ceramic and manufacturer recommended veneering ceramic. Four groups from ceramic-zirconia specimens (n=28; n=7 per group) were assigned into four experimental aging conditions, namely storage in an autoclave at $134^{\circ}C$ for 0, 3, 5, 10 hours. Bonding strength was obtained using a universal testing machine with crosshead speed 0.5 mm/min. Data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (${\alpha}=0.05$). In bonding strength test, the group which was treated with LTD showed lower bonding strength than no treated group. The ceramic-zirconia bonding strength was affected by LTD (p<0.05). Digital microscope examination of the fracture surface showed mixed failures with adhesive and cohesive types in LTD with treated Y-TZP groups.

  • The grafting of acrylic acid in aqueous solution to polyvinyl chloride fibers tab been studied in the presence of ferrous, ferric, and cupric salts, The mutual irradiation technique was adopted using a Co-60 source or a Van do Graaff accelerator. The grafting and homopolymerization were suppressed by the cations. Particularly the grafting was suppressed by the cations in the following order of effectiveness : $Cu^{2+}$>$Fe^{2+}$>$Cu^{3+}$. The rate of grafting (in %/hr) was proportional to the 0.76th power of the dose rate over the range from 8.5f $10^3$ rad/hr to $1.4\times10^5$ rad/dr. The apparent activation energy for the grafting was determined to be 6.1 Kcal/mole between $25^{\circ}$ and $75^{\circ}C$ for the mixture of AA-HaO-$(CH_2Cl)_2$, containing Mohr's salt, $4\times10^{-3}$ mole/l. The increase of the grafting was observed when total dose and dose intensity were raised, or when ethylene dichloride as a swelling agent was saturated in the monomer mixture. The grafted polyvinyl chloride fibers showed considerable improvement in moisture regain, heat shrinkage, and melting properties, but tensile properties were not significantly affected by grafting.

  • This paper aims to examine the constructional background and process of the Japanese military installations of Oiyang-po(外洋浦), especially based on the military secret documents. Furthermore, it aims to analyze the characteristics of the remains. The results are as follow; 1) The number of the Japanese military secret documents concerning with the installations of Oiyang-po, summed up to 33s. Especially, 14 documents about the expropriation of the lands and houses, and the constructions of the artillery position are reserved in "Mildae-ilgi"(密大日記)written from 1893 to 1942. 2) Imperialist Japan constructed firstly the military installations of Oiyang-po against the Russo-Japanese War. After the moving of the artillery headquarters into Masan in 1911, these installations had been maintained for the defense of Busan and Jinhae Bays. 3) As soon as 1904, the lands and houses of Oiyang-po were forcibly expropriated according to (韓日議定書). The Korean Government payed the expropriation prices to the dwellers. But the amount of money were too small and were lately payed. Moreover the dwellers' fishery right were never recompensed. 4) In 1904, the artillery headquarters and position were constructed by the 3rd Chookseong-dan(築城團) under the command of Matsui, a military engineer officer. The executional constructions were accomplished by the Japanese construction contractors. 5) After the moving of the artillery headquarters into Masan in 1911, the 3rd Chookseong-dan had usually repaired and consolidated the explosive warehouses and artillery facilities. 6) The artillery position constructed with the thick concrete walls was located at the foot of the mountain in back. It's plan was similar to the rectangular shape. It reserved six 280㎜ howizers and several explosive warehouses. 7) The reserve funds and arsenal funds were used for the constructions. And the items of expenses such as the establishments of the electric lights and communication networks, and the repairs of the explosive warehouses were mainly recoded in "Mildae-ilgi".
