  • The flow forming process which is one of the technologies to manufacture the various missile propulsion combustion chambers, was analyzed using the rigid plasticity finite element modeling. The numerical analysis was performed using 3 rollers which forms the basic tools for the plastic deformation of the tubes. As a result of this study, the distribution of the plastic strain and the stress are obtained and compared. It was found that there exists a significant difference in the plastic deformation as well as the stress distribution due to the preform initial thickness as a result of these numerical experiments. Moreover, under ideal process condition, flow forming process results in a uniform plastic deformation in the radial direction.

  • After modeling an aircraft turboprop engine using SIMULINK$\circledR$, performance simulation of PT6A-62 engine, which is main power plant of KT-1, was performed. For validation, performance parameters of the SIMULIINK model were compared with the simulated results by GASTURB program. It was confirm that the results by the SIMULINK model were well agreed with those by GASTURB within 1.07%, It was assumed that installation losses were bleed-air exteraction with a range from 0% to 5%, and power for accessories with a range from 0 to 20hp. In this investigation, it was found that the shafthorsepower was decreased by maxium 0.68%, but specific fuel consumption ratio was not effected nearly by these losses.

  • In this paper, an empirical formula to estimate the steering gear torque of a Tanker with a horn type rudder was developed by using the statistical analysis. The hydrodynamic characteristics of the horn type rudder in the free-stream condition were calculated by using the modified lifting line theory by Molland, and the interaction effects by propeller and hull were analyzed by the regression analysis of the sea-trial data of 32 vessels. The comparison with the delivered vessels' data shows that the formula can be used for predicting the steering gear torque at the initial design stage.

  • The design and construction of special purpose vessels such as drillship and shuttle tankers have been increased. These vessels install the DPS(dynamic positioning systems) to maintain the position and heading for long-time operation. This paper deals with the experimental method for model-based DP system and the control theory and filter algorithms. In this experiment, the length of model ship is 4 meters and it has three thrusters to maintain the position. The ability of tracking along the given course and keeping of heading in waves are confirmed. For the calculation of thruster input the PID control theory are adopted and the effects of PID gain were investigated. To estimate the low frequency motions Kalman filter and digital filter were used and their effects were investigated.

  • In the early design stage of underwater vehicles, it is important to estimate the vehicle's underwater motion performance. The key design elements for the motion are propellers, battery power, and underwater resistance of the vehicle. Small thrusters with motor and propeller are usually used for the UUV(unmanned underwater vehicles). In this study, a multiphysics thruster model combining electro-mechanical and hydrodynamics characteristics was proposed to estimate the thruster performance. To show the applicability of the mathematical model, an sample thruster was used for the derive the unknown parameters of thruster. Hydrodynamic parameters were calculated for a 3D geometry model of the propeller by ANSYS/CFX program. Finally, Matlab/simulink program was used for the numerical simulation to predict the thruster performance from the given voltage/current input to the motor. Also, proved validity of simulation model by experiment test. Test were done by 2 mode(middle/high speed, reverse). The thruster performance curves obtained from this simulation were confirmed to be similar with experiment results.

  • In the supersonic jet of a solid rocket motor, various noise is investigated. The purpose of this study is to attain and evaluating a design and manufacturing technique of the SRM noise reduction. In this study, the water is injected into the supersonic jet of the SRM to reduce the noise. Furthermore, the diffuser and stack are installed to suppress the SRM noise. Through the SRM ground tests, the noise is reduced approximately 20dBA with application of the diffuser/stack with water injection.

  • Waterjet propulsion is widely used to thrust high speed marine vessels in excess of 30-35 knots by virtue of the high propulsive efficiency, good maneuverability, and less cavitation. From the aspect of power loss, approximately $7-9\%$ of the total power is lost in intake duct due to the flow separation, nonuniformity, etc. Thus, detail understanding of flow phenomena occurring within intake duct is essential to reduce the power loss, as well as noise and vibration. The present work solved 30 incompressible RANS equations to provide complicated viscous flow features of intake duct. The numerical results were compared with experiments and good agreements were obtained for three jet velocity ratios.

  • Recently, to improve the safety and maneuverability at fairway around harbor the POD system has been equipped on a ship. And the interest about maneuvering characteristics of a cruise ship has been increasing. In this paper the mathematical model of maneuvering motion of a cruise ship with twin POD system in general speed and slow speed are presented. And the maneuvering coefficients of mathematical model are obtained from the captive model tests using CPMC(Computerized Planar Motion Carriage). Computer simulation using mathematical model in general speed and slow speed are carried out and compared with the results of free running model test with the same model ship. The differences between the mathematical models are compared and discussed. In this paper the mathematical models, the results of captive model test and simulation results are presented.
