  • Least squares (${\ell}^2-norm$) solutions of seismic inversion tend to be very sensitive to data points with large errors. The ${\ell}^p-norm$ minimization for $1{\le}p<2$ gives more robust solutions, but usually with higher computational cost. Iteratively reweighted least squares (IRLS) gives efficient approximate solutions of these ${\ell}^p-norm$ problems. I propose a simple way to implement the IRLS method for a hybrid ${\ell}^1/{\ell}^2$ minimization problem that behaves as ${\ell}^2$ fit for small residual and ${\ell}^1$ fit for large residuals. Synthetic and a field-data examples demonstrates the improvement of the hybrid method over least squares when there are outliers in the data.

  • Recently the velocity stack inversion is having many attentions as an useful way to perform various seismic data processing. In order to be used in various seismic data processing, the inversion method used should have properties such as robustness to noise and parsimony of the velocity stack result. The IRLS (Iteratively Reweighted Least-Squares) method that minimizes ${L_1}-norm$ is the one used mostly. This paper introduce another method, CGG (Conjugate Guided Gradient) method, which can be used to achieve the same goal as the IRLS method does. The CGG method is a modified CG (Conjugate Gradient) method that minimizes ${L_1}-norm$. This paper explains the CGG method and compares the result of it with the one of IRSL methods. Testing on synthetic and real data demonstrates that CGG method can be used as an inversion method f3r minimizing various residual/model norms like IRLS methods.

  • Magnetic survey flights by helicopters are usually parallel to the topographic surface, with a nominal clearance, but especially in high-resolution surveys the altitudes at which observations are made may be too variable to be regarded as a smooth surface. We have developed a reduction procedure for such data using the method of equivalent sources, where surrounding sources are included to control edge effects, and data from points distributed randomly in three dimensions are directly modelled. Although the problem is generally underdetermined, the method of conjugate gradients can be used to find a minimum-norm solution. There is freedom to select the harmonic function that relates the magnetic anomaly with the source. When the upward continuation function operator is selected, the equivalent source is the magnetic anomaly itself. If we select as source a distribution of magnetic dipoles in the direction of the ambient magnetic field, we can easily derive reduction-to-pole anomalies by rotating the direction of the magnetic dipoles to vertical.

  • A new non-inferior solution is obtained by investigating method of weight p- norm to explain the conception of MCO (multiple criterion optimization) problem. And then the optimum non-inferior solution is obtained by the weight minimization method applied to objective function of MOSFET NAND rATEAlso this weight minimization method using weight P- norm methods can be applied to non-convex objective function. The result of this minimization method shows the efficiency in comparison with that of Lightner.

  • This paper proposes balanced model reduction of non-minimum phase plant. The algorithm presented in this paper is to convert high-order non-minimum phase plant into low-oder minimum phase plant using balanced model reduction. Balanced model reduction requires the error bound that Hankel singular value produces. This algorithm shows the tolerance that admits the method of this paper.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test and validate a model to predict living and brain death organ donation intention in nursing students. The conceptual model was based on the theory planned behavior. Methods: Quota sampling methodology was used to recruit 921 nursing students from all over the country and data collection was done from October 1 to December 20, 2013. Results: The model fit indices for the hypothetical model were suitable for the recommended level. Knowledge, attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control explained 40.2% and 40.1% respectively for both living and brain death organ donation intention. Subjective norm was the most direct influential factor for organ donation intention. Knowledge had significant direct effect on attitude and indirect effect on subjective norm and perceived behavioral control. These effects were higher in brain death organ donation intention than in living donation intention. Conclusion: The overall findings of this study suggest the need to develop systematic education programs to increases knowledge about brain death organ donation. The development, application, and evaluation of intervention programs are required to improve subjective norm.

  • In this paper, we propose a new fast motion estimation algorithm based on successive elimination algorithm (SEA) which can dramatically reduce heavy complexity of the variable block size motion estimation in H.264 encoder. The proposed method applies the conventional SEA in the hierarchical manner to the seven block modes. That is, the proposed algorithm can remove the unnecessary computation of SAD by means of the process that the previous minimum SAD is compared to a current SAD for each mode which is obtained by accumulating sum norms or SAD of $4\times4$ blocks. As a result, we have tighter bound in the inequality between SAD and sum norm than in the ordinary SEA. If the basic size of the block is smaller than $4\times4$, the bound will become tighter but it also causes to increase computational complexity, specifically addition operations for sum norm. Compared with fast full search algorithm of JM of H.264, our algorithm saves 60 to $70\%$ of computation on average for several image sequences.
