  • For the minimum weight design of ship structures it is desirable that tank arrangement is predetermined to obtain the minimum weight and then structural arrangement and scanting of each murder is determined to obtain the minimum weight within the given tank arrangement. To carry out the tank arrangement to give minimum weight a minimum weight design program which covers whole ship structures is developed by the combination of minimum weight design program of longitudinal members by classification rules and minimum weight design program of transverse members by generalized slope deflection method which were developed by the authors. The hullweight is estimated by summation of the weight of cargo hold part and the weight except cargo hold part which can be estimated by the empirical formula. In this study, the variation of hullweight is shown with the number of tank, the number of web and the location of longitudinal bulkhead. For the application of actual design alternative designs of tank arrangement which satisfy MARPOL regulation are determined. And several minimum weight designs of whole ship structures are carried out to obtain the tank arrangement which gives minimum weight and then the hullweight is compared with that of existing ship.

  • This study is object to minimum weight design of stiffened laminated composite flat panel. Various buckling load factors are obtained for stiffened laminated composite flat panels with rectangular type longitudinal stiffeners and various aspect ratios, which are made from Carbon/Epoxy USN150 prepreg and are simply-supported on four edges under uniaxial compression.

  • An optimum structural design system for double hull oil tankers is developed based on the generalized slope deflection method which was previously proposed by the authors. For the optimization technique, the Hooke & Jeeves direct search method is applied to the minimum weight design problems with discrete design variables. A minimum weight design program is developed for the longitudinal members by the classification rules and for the transverse frames and the bulkhead members by the generalized slope deflection method. By this program, a minimum hull weight design of double hull oil tankers considering tank arrangement is performed and the design results are compared with existing ship. It is possible to find optimum tank arrangement and efficient types of hull structures for the minimum weight design of double hull oil tankers.

  • A generalized slope deflection method has already been developed by the authors from the existing one, and applied to the 3-dimensional structural analysis of tankers idealized as frame models to verify the effectiveness of the method from the analysis viewpoint. In this study, a minimum hull weight design program of tankers is developed to verify the effectiveness of the method from the design viewpoint by the combination of generalized slope deflection method and optimization method considering discrete design variables. By this program, it is possible to determine the scantling of each member of actual tankers that give minimum weight under given constraints. Also, a considerable weight saving has been found compared with existing ship.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate on influence of the observations by the given weights, through the observational equations of the least square. According to the tention, elongation lengths are obtained by using the each tape and observational results are analyzed in the given weights. Through the results of this study, we found that variations of weights have not a great influence on the observations.

  • The minimum weight design for simply-supported isotropic or symmetrically laminated stiffened cylindrical shells subjected to various loads (axial compression or combined loads) is studied by a nonlinear mathematical search algorithm. The minimum weight design in accomplished with the CONMIN optimizer by Vanderplaats. Several types of buckling modes with maximum allowable stresses and strains are included as constraints in the minimum weight design process, such as general buckling, panel buckling with either stingers or rings smeared out, local skin buckling, local crippling of stiffener segments, and general, panel and local skin buckling including stiffener rolling. The approach allows the consideration of various shapes of stiffening members. Rectangular, I, or T type stringers and rectangular rings are used for stiffened cylindrical shells. Several design examples are analyzed and compared with those in the previous literatures. The unstiffened glass/epoxy, graphite/epoxy(T300/5208), and graphite/epoxy aluminum honeycomb cylindrical shells and stiffened graphite/epoxy cyindrical shells under axial compression are analyzed through the present approach.

  • The paper is mainly concerned with the applications tn develop an optimum structural design procedure for hatchcoverless container ship. L.R rules are applied to determine the scantlings of the longitudinal members. As for an object function of midship section design, the total sectional area of all the longitudinal members for midship section is selected. The SUMT procedure combined with direct search method is applied to the solution of nonlinear optimum design problem to find a optimum midship section arrangement. The results of optimization study show that the weight of model ship may be saved about 8.0% per unit length.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of browning inhibitor and vacuum packaging on minimally processed sweet pumpkin. The browning inhibitor were lo/e of ascorbic acid, citric acid, NaCl, MgCl$_2$and their combination. For the minimal processing, sweet pumpkin was sliced and strip-cut followed by dipping in the solution of browning inhibitor. Effective browning inhibitors fer slice sweet pumpkin were ascorbic acid, NaCl and MgC1$_2$, and those fer thin strip were combination and ascorbic acid. The hardness of minimally processed sweet-pumpkin repeated increasing and decreasing and decreased in the final of storage. However the change pattern of hardness was different according to cutting method. Magnesium chloride treatment was generally high grade on sensory characteristics. Sweet pumpkin treated with citric acid was distinguished on carbon dioxide generation and oxygen exhaustion.

  • For the conduct of optimum design for such complicated and large structures as ship structure by direct structural analysis such as finite element method, it is very important problem that the process needs much computational efforts due to the repeated structural analysis. In this study, the reanalysis technique based on the modified reduced basis method is applied in the process to reduce the computing time required in repeated structural analysis. Numerical examples to simple grillage and actual ship structure are performed and applicability of reanalysis technique to structural optimization process is discussed.
