Livestock facilities in Korea are on their way of enlargement resulting in increment of livestock manure. When the livestock manure treated inappropriate way during application to the agricultural area, environmental damage can be occurred such as bad smell, water and air pollution. Therefore it is important to make a good management plan for livestock manure treatment. In order to effectively apply organic fertilizer made by livestock manure in terms of quantity and quality, the current status of nutrient in agricultural land should be calculated quantitatively by scientific way. The OECD suggest member countries to calculate the nutrient balance as an agricultural environment indicator which represents the difference between nutrient inputs and outputs of the amount of nutrients in various ways. In this paper, we calculated the nutrient balances according to three cities which have different characteristics such as urban or rural areas. To reduce the nutrient balance, we considered how to reduce the amount of chemical fertilizer by using organic fertilizer made by livestock manure. And public treatment facilities for livestock manure can be a good solution except civil complaints for location selection. Among the options, manure fertilizer application to the agricultural area for cultivation of forage crops was mainly considered to reduce the nutrient balance by decreasing input of chemical fertilizers and increasing output of crop production. Using the field monitoring data, it can be calculated that the daily nitrogen reductions by 116.5 kg/ha and the daily phosphorus increments by 2.7 kg/ha.

Climate change is the issue that attracts the most attention in the field of environment, as well as the most challenging task faced by the human race. There are various ways to resolve this issue. South Korea has established the primary and secondary national climate change adaptation plans at the national level, and is making it compulsory for each local government (lower and municipal-level) to establish climate change adaptation plans. Climate change vulnerability assessment plays an essential role in establishing climate change adaptation action plans. However, vulnerability assessment has a difficulty performing individual assessments since the results are produced through complex calculations of multiple impact factors. Accordingly, this study developed a web-based supporting tool(VESTAP) for climate change vulnerability assesment that can be used by lower and municipal-level local governments. The VESTAP consists of impact DB and vulnerability assessment and display tool. The index DB includes total 455 impacts of future climate data simulated with RCP (Representative Concentration Pathways) 4.5 and 8.5, atmospheric environment data, other humanities and social statistics, and metadata. The display tool has maximized convenience by providing various analytical functions such as spatial distribution, bias and schematization of each vulnerability assessment result. A pilot test of health vulnerability assessment by particulate matters in Sejong Metropolitan Autonomous City was performed using the VESTAP, and Bukang-myeon showed the highest vulnerability. By using the developed tool, each local government is expected to be able to establish climate change adaptation action plans more easily and conveniently based on scientific evidence.

The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze primary causes of indoor air pollution, including carbon dioxide, minute dust, and total volatile organic compounds, for each room before the beginning of a class through the time of discharge after the end of the class in general classrooms, computer rooms, and science rooms of three newly-established schools that opened in 2006, examine properties of indoor air environment in each room by educational activities at school, and determine effective management schemes; the results of this study can be summarized as follows: 1) As for implications for each item found in the mean for each place, since minute dust (PM10) was more likely to occur in time slots full of students' activities, such as a traveling class and a recess, than in the middle of a class and could be expected fully, it is necessary to make a scheme for cleaning in order to reduce minute dust within a room, for example, by usually using a vacuum cleaner indoors. 2) While carbon dioxide was expected to vary with the differences in the amount of breath between higher-graders and lower-graders in a general classroom but showed insignificant difference by grades, showing differences in pollution by four times at a maximum according to the opening of a window as expected, it is necessary to implement artificial or natural ventilation and take a positive measure, for example, by presenting a concrete ventilation scheme, in order to improve indoor air pollution at a room practice. 3) Total volatile organic compounds were found to exceed the standard by more than twice in general classrooms, science rooms, and computer rooms of the schools because of building materials, furnitures including desks and chairs, panels and boards for environment beautification, and items which could be detected even from students' clothes; while a field directly-reading tool was used, obtaining high reliability for the results, it is necessary to apply an analytical method based on process test separately for actual correct measurement if a significantly great amount of total volatile organic compounds appear as compared with other schools due to measuring expenses and consecutive measurements. 4) Since formaldehyde (HCHO) was generally found to exceed the standard in general classrooms, science rooms, and computer rooms, it is necessary to establish and operate a ventilator during a class in a computer room which requires airtightness and a science room in which an organic compound should be used for a class.

The concentrations and loads of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), and chemical oxygen demand (COD) in wet deposition were investigated at Chungbuk National University in Cheongju, Chungbuk. Event based precipitation samples were collected during 1998 to 2003. The precipitation-weighted mean concentrations of pollutants were 0.60 mg/L for TN, 0.014 mg/L for TP, and 4.8 mg/L for COD, which were smaller than its arithmetic mean concentrations by 26% for TN, 18% for TP, and 14% for COD. The concentrations of TN, TP, and COD significantly decreased with precipitation. Mean concentrations of pollutants in spring (March-May) were higher than in other seasons likely due to dust caused by wind erosion and sand-dust storms, pollen etc. Significant relationships were determined between TN and TP, and TN and COD. Annual loads of wet deposition averaged 7.9 kg/ha$\cdot$yr for TN, 0.19 kg/ha$\cdot$yr for TP, and 63.9 kg/ha$\cdot$yr for COD, which are almost identical to the values of TN and TP but slightly higher than COD value reported in Japan.
The etymology of the Chinese words for “Asian Dust" in Korea. China, and Japan has been investigated using historical records and the research results of Quan (1994) and Wada (1917) The results show that the words for Asian Dust in Korea can be found in $\boxDr$Samguksagi$\boxUl$, $\boxDr$Korysa$\boxUl$ and $\boxDr$Chosunwangjosillok$\boxUl$, which are histrorical books of Korea. In 174 AD, during the reign of King Adalla of the Silla Dynasty, “Dust Fall” was employed to describe a descending substance in the atmosphere other than water droplets (Wada, 1917; Chun et al., 2001). The terms “Dust Fall”, “Dust rain” and “Mud” were commonly used until the end of the 19th century. It was not until Japanese colonial rule (1910~1945) that “Yellow Sand” was used in Korea. The documentation on Asian Dust started far earlier in China. “Dust Fall” records were compiled as early as 1150 BC. At that time, Asian Dust was written as “Dust Fall” or “Mud”. “Yellow Sand” was recorded in 550 AD in China, however, it seems that its use was not as common as “Dust Fall”. In Japan, the first report related to Asian Bust was made in 807 AD : it used the phase “Yellow Rain”. “Mud” was recorded in 1596 and “Dust Fall” was employed in 1633 (Wada, 1917). “Yellow Sand” was used in 1939 as the title of a Japanese research paper.aper.

Green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) has been widely explored for its medicinal applications. However, most of the studies had targeted the green tea leaf, while other parts remained unexplored. In this study, protective effect of green tea root extract on Normal Human Epidermal Keratinocytes (NHEKs) against the damage induced by an external stimulant (PM2.5) was confirmed. Thirty-year-old green tea root samples were collected from Amorepacific's Dolsongi tea field and green tea root extract was prepared with 70% ethanol. Total crude saponin content in green tea root extract was 54%, which is much higher than that in ginseng extract. Our results suggest that green tea root extract can be used as a natural surfactant in cosmetics. For evaluating its protective effect against the damage induced by PM2.5, IL-36G was used as a biomarker. IL-36G mRNA expression level increased remarkable upon PM2.5 treatment in NHEKs. Moreover, IL-36G was recently reported to be expressed in psoriasis lesions. Results showed significant decrease of IL-36G expression by treatment of green tea root extract. In conclusion, thirty-year-old green tea root extract can be used as a natural surfactant with a high saponin content and may have protective effect against the damage induced by PM2.5.

Recently, underground road construction is attracting attention because the ground transportation facilities in the urban area have reached the saturation level and traffic volume has increased and the air pollution has risen. Construction of underground roads is not only reduce trafficjam in downtown but also design the city eco-friendly, so existing roads as well as new roads go underground. It is essential to construct divergence tunnels that serve as IC (interchage) and JC (Junction) when constructing underpasses. Therefore, the analysis of the effect of the existing tunnel by the divergence tunnel should be considered. In this study, numerical analysis is performed to analyze the effect of existing tunnel on the excavation of the divergence tunnel. The divergence tunnels were set in 5 cases at $45^{\circ}$ intervals in the clockwise direction starting from the lower part of the existing tunnel. In each case, numerical analyses were carried out by using the DCM (Displacement Controlled Model) for applying the volume loss of 0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5%. As a result, when the volume loss increased, the effect on displacement, fracture range, and effect on stability increased as well. In addition, it was confirmed that the divergence tunnel located directly underneath is the weakest for the stability, and the case where the divergence tunnel is located diagonally rather than the vertical and horizontal direction is found to be vulnerable to displacement and lining destruction.
Humans have been breeding the mulberry silkworm for the long period of time to obtain silk fabric and nutrient-rich pupae. Currently, silkworm larvae, pupae, and silk-Fibroin hydrolysates are registered as food raw materials, while silkworm feces and Bombyx batryticatus are registered as Korean traditional medicines. Among sericulture products, individually recognized health functional food ingredients include silk-protein acid-hydrolysates for immunity enhancement, Fibroin-hydrolysates for memory improvement, and freeze-dried 5th instar and 3rd-day-silkworm powder for lowering-blood sugar. Recently, HongJam produced by steaming and freeze-drying mature silkworms were reported to have various health-promoting effects such as preventing the onset of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, enhancing gastro-intestinal functions, improving skin-whitening and hair growth, and extending healthspan. By consuming silkworm products with various health-promoting effects, it is possible to increase the healthspan of human beings, thereby reducing personal and national medical expenses, resulting in increasing the individual's happiness.

Recently, due to COV ID-19, many people are spending most of their time indoors. So, there is a rising interest on the indoor air quality in the field of building construction. The main sources for the indoor air pollution are human indoors activity, building materials, living supplies and the polluted air from outdoor. The Korean government has designated 17 indoor air pollutants including fine dust, total airborne bacteria, fungi and carbon dioxide, etc.. Most people are always exposed to assorted bacteria and molds in our daily life, because indoor environment for human, moderate temperature are humidity, it is favourable to the growth of most of bacteria and fungi. Pine needles have an antibacterial effect against bacteria and fungi. In this study, the antibacterial activity against bacteria and fungi was tested by cement matrix using pine needle extract. As a result, the cement matrix using pine needle extract showed antibacterial activities against bacteria, but in the case of fungi, it did not show antifungal activity.

This study developed and tested an ultra-low NOx burner in an 80 kW combustion furnace. The experiment was conducted in an 80 kW single burner combustion furnace with changing the swirl numbers, total equivalence ratios, and primary/secondary oxidizer ratios. In this study, liquefied natural gas (LNG) was used as an auxiliary fuel to significantly reduce NOx production. In a thermal power plant, the amount of NOx generated during coal combustion is about 300 ppm. However, using the burner tested in this study, it was possible to reduce the amount of NOx generated via LNG co-firing to 40 ppm. If the input amount of the primary oxidizer is enough for the gas to be completely combusted and the gas and coal are added simultaneously, the combusted gas forms a high-temperature region at the burner outlet and volatilizes the coal. As a result, the N contained in the devolatilized coal is discharged. Therefore, when the coal is subsequently burned, the amount of NOx produced decreases because there is almost no N remaining in the coal. If a thermal power plant burner is developed based on the results of this study, it is expected that the NOx generation will be significantly lower in the early stage of combustion.
