The study of catalytic combustion of VOCs (휘발성 유기염소화합물의 촉매연소 연구)

  • In this study, it was studied that the removal rate of VOC by the catalytic combustion. The combustion temperature was changed by the contact type of VOC(space velocity and catalyst depth) and the space velocity(SV) was defined by the rate of gas volume flow rate(Q, $m^3/hr$) over volume(V, $m^3$) of catalyst (SV=Q/V). The space velocity of catalytic combustor is maintained $10,000{\sim}50,000hr^{-1}$. it was studied that the conversion rate of VOC by the catalytic combustion. The combustion temperature was changed by the contact type of VOC and catalyst and the space velocity was defined by the rate of gas volume flow rate over volume of catalyst. The VOC which pass thru the heat exchanger was measured by the hydro ionic detector and measured the VOC removal rate by the activated catalyst in the reaction temperature range of 373K-423K. The removal rate was measured over 100 times. In the automobile painting booth The VOC concentration was 63.37ppm and the removal rate was 70 % at 373K and 78.92% at 423K. The removal rate was increased as increased the temperature.

  • 천연가스의 주성분인 순수 메탄에 대한 촉매 산화반응은 Pd촉매가 가장 양호하나 LP가스의 주성분인 프로판에 대해서는 Pt촉매가 가장 양호한 결과를 보였다. 그러나 유황 피독된 Pd촉매는 메탄에 대해 영구피독 현상을 보였고, fresh한 Pd촉매는 연료 중 미량의 유황분량에 의해 반응 개시온도가 지연되는 경향을 보였다. 이와 같은 촉매독 영향이 적은 Rh촉매버너를 개발하여 8000시간 이상 성공적인 연소 실험을 하고 있으며 C 방적의 염색 시험기에 적응 실험한 결과 기존의 적외선 전기 건조기에 비해 에너지 절감은 약30-40%를 기하였고 연료비는 70-80%의 절약효과를 얻었다.

  • Catalytic combustion is the environmental-friendly technology, which has been applied to a variety of areas for industrial and domestic use in recent years. Accordingly, this study performed the development of the catalytic manufacturing technology for the high temperature and of the catalytic combustor in priority, which were aimed to be applied to a commercialized boiler. Paliadium(Pd) of a noble metal was used as a catalyst for the high temperature and supported on alumina($Al_[2}O_{3}$) and zirconia($ZrO_{2}$) in constant weight ratio. Activity of Pd catalysts is compared and analyzed in the catalytic combustion of natural gas. The ratio of $Pd/Al_{2}O_{3}=4$ was found to be better than any other weight ratios in activity and durability. The performance examination of catalysts and of combustion through the plate-type combustor made it possible to be developed the cylindrical-type combustor which has increased combustion area. Catalytic combustion boiler of 25,000 kcal/hr class was also developed, which had the optimum combustion condition at the nozzle of 5.95mm and the orifice of 21mm. This condition was determined through the performance experiments of catalytic combustion boiler to which the cylindrical-type catalytic combustor was applied.

  • The combustion test of LMP-103S, a propellant based on ADN(Ammonium Dinitramide), was performed with a 50 mN scale micro-thruster. The micro-thruster was made with photosensitive glass using MEMS manufacturing process. $Pt/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ was used as a catalyst to decompose LMP-103S. After injecting 90 wt.% hydrogen peroxide into combustion chamber to preheat the catalyst, LMP-103S was injected for the combustion test. As a result, the ignition and combustion of LMP-103S was confirmed in platinum catalyst environment with the combustion chamber temperature going up to $650^{\circ}C$.

  • Some catalytic reactors for industrial/generation gas turbines were reviewed and investigated to understand the current status and future prospect for ultra low NOx catalytic gas turbine combustor. Catalytic reactor which was applied to 1${\sim}$10MW class gas turbine has achieved the ultra low emission corresponding to less than 3ppm NOx and 10ppm CO. But the durability and sizing flexibility of catalyst is needed to improve the catalyst performance for commercial gas turbine operation.

  • Catalytic combustion is generally accepted as one of the environmentally preferred alternatives for heat and power from fossil fuels, as it has the advantage of stable combustion under very lean conditions with such low emissions as UHC, CO, and NOx. In this work, therefore, comparative numerical studies on the catalytic combustion behaviors over Pd-based catalysts have been conducted with the gaseous $CH_4$, $C_2H_6$, and $C_3H_8$. In the following, after introducing the governing equations with 1D channel and Langmuir-Hinshelwood models, numerical investigations on the catalyst performance are conducted by changing such various parameters as inlet temperature, excess air ratio, and space velocity. The numerical results show that outlet temperature and conversion of $C_3H_8$ are highest among others because of its chemical structure and reactivity.

  • The combustion characteristics of the hybrid catalytic(catalytic+thermal) combustor with a lean methane-air mixture on platinum catalyst were investigated numerically using a 2-D boundary layer model with detailed homogeneous and heterogeneous chemistries. for the more accurate calculations, the actual surface site density of monolith coated with platinum was decided by the comparison with experimental data. It was found that the homogeneous reactions in the monolith had little effect on the change of temperature profile, methane conversion rate and light off location. However, the radicals such as OH and CO were produced rapidly at exit by homogeneous reactions. The effect of operation conditions such as equivalence ratio, temperature, velocity, pressure and diameter of the monolith channel at the entrance were studied. In thermal combustor, the production of N$_2$O was more dominant than that of NO due to the relative importance of the reaction N$_2$+O(+M)→N$_2$O(+M). Finally the productions of CO and NOx by amount of methane addition were studied.

  • 석탄가스화복합발전(IGCC: Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle)의 고온 고압 합성가스로부터 $CO_2$를 저비용으로 포집하기 위한 연소전 포집 기술 중 유동층 촉진수성가스전환(SEWGS) 공정이 제안되어 연구개발 중에 있다. 연소전 $CO_2$ 포집을 위한 SEWGS 공정은 동일한 2탑 순환 유동층 반응기에서 고온 고압의 합성가스($H_2$, CO)를 유동층 WGS 촉매를 사용하여 CO를 $CO_2$로 전환하는 동시에 전환반응으로 생성된 $CO_2$를 흡수제를 이용하여 포집하는 기술이다. 본 연구는 $CO_2$ 회수와 WGS 반응이 동시에 이루어지는 공정에 적용 가능한 건식 재생 흡수제 및 유동층 WGS 촉매 개발을 목표로 $CO_2$ 흡수제(P Series) 및 WGS 촉매(PC Series) 조성을 제안하고 분무건조기를 이용하여 6~8kg/batch로 성형 제조하였다. 제조된 $CO_2$ 흡수제 및 촉매의 특성 평가 결과 내마모도(Attrition resistance)를 포함한 물리적 특성이 유동층 공정의 요구조건을 만족하는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 또한, 모사 석탄 합성가스를 이용하여 20bar, $200^{\circ}C$ 흡수/$400^{\circ}C$ 재생 조건에서 열중량 분석기(TGA) 및 가압 유동층(Fluidized-bed) 반응기를 통한 흡수제의 $CO_2$ 흡수능 평가를 수행하였다. 그 결과 내마모도(AI) 3% 이하로 기계적 강도가 우수하며, $CO_2$ 흡수능 17.6 wt%(TGA) 및 11wt%(가압 유동층)를 나타냈다. 유동층 WGS 특성 평가 결과 내마모도가 7~35%로 우수하였고, CO 전환율은 $200^{\circ}C$에서 80% 이상으로, 유동층 SEWGS 공정에 적용 가능한 특성을 확인하였다.

  • The characteristics of the catalytically supported combustion with Pd and Pd/Pt based catalyst using the bench-scaled high pressure combustor have been investigated up to 5atm. This study aimed to investigate combustion characteristics of the stable flame attached to the exit of catalyst bed and NOx emissions with respect to the position of axial and radial direction in the combustor. NOx emissions were increased along the axial distance after the catalyst bed exit and radially decreased from the center to the wall of the combustor. At the higher pressure, the NOx emission decreased slightly due to the lower flame temperature in the combustor at the high pressure.

  • 마이크로 반응기술은 작은 반응기 부피, 높은 열전달, 넓은 반응 면적/부피 및 정확한 반응시간 조절이 가능하기 때문에 화학공정의 고집적화, 반응 선택도의 향상 및 안전도 향상을 꾀할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 이러한 마이크로 반응 기술을 중소형 천연가스 및 국내에서 소규모로 국지적으로 발생하는 메탄의 활용 방안으로서 개발함은 청정 합성유를 제조함으로서 석유 자원의 고갈과 고유가에 대비하여 에너지 자원의 다변화 및 자립을 확보 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 마이크로 반응기술을 적용한 미세 유로 반응기(Micro Channel Reactor)를 사용하여 메탄 스팀 개질 반응 특성을 연구하였다. 미세유로 반응기는 내부 홀이 존재하는 plate를 적층함으로 반응기내에 반응가스가 이동할 수 있는 미세유로가 존재하게 하였다. 이러한 미세유로는 반응기의 크기가 작음에도 반응기내에서 반응가스가 충분히 반응할 수 있는 시간과 높은 열전달 효율을 가질 수 있게 한다. 메탄 스팀 개질 반응에 사용된 촉매는 Ni 촉매를 사용하였고, 반응에 필요한 열원으로는 수소 연소에서 발생한 열을 사용하여 반응을 유도하였다. 본 반응기는 외부의 열원을 사용하지 않고, 반응기 내부의 수소 연소에서 발생한 열을 사용함으로 적은 발생 열만으로 메탄 스팀 개질 반응에 필요한 에너지를 얻을 수 있고, 열의 손실이 적다. 또한 메탄 스팀 개질 반응으로 발생한 일부의 수소를 열원으로 이용하여 에너지 사용면에서도 효율적인 반응 공정이다.
