Micron-sized dextran particles, which now attract wide attention as a promising drug delivery systems, can be prepared via the supercritical anti-solvent (SAS) process. In SAS process, dextran particles are obtained as a result of recrystallization of dissolved dextran in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) on addition of supercritical $CO_2$ as an anti-solvent. In this work, with an intention to provide information on the feasible operating conditions of the process, the phase behavior of Dexran/DMSO/$CO_2$ is observed by measuring the cloud point in favor of a variable volume cell. From the experimental study, it is concluded that a feasible operating condition of the SAS process for preparation of dextran particles would be 300.15 K~330.15 K and 90 bar~130 bar, respectively, and solute concentration ranges from 5mg/ml to 20 mg/ml.

Pressure and flowrate control systems for a supercritical extraction process are designed and analyzed. To do this, the dynamic model was first set up using the performance equations of control valves, CO2 compressor and the state equation of the supercritical fluid. Using this model, optimum pairs of manipulated and controlled variable which give least steady stat interaction are determined though the relative gain analysis.

The economic analysis for the power plant developed in the conceptual design phase is becoming more important and, research on process optimization for process development that meets the target economic is actively carried out. In the filed of power generation systems, economic assessment methods to predict the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) has been widely applied for comparing economic effect quantitatively. In this paper, the platform that design criteria of key component required to optimize economic of power cycle can be calculated reversely was established roughly and design criteria of the key equipment (Compressor, turbine, heat exchanger) required to meet the target LCOE (the LCOE of supercritical steam Rankine cycle) was derived when the supercritical $CO_2$ power cycle is applied to the coal-fired power plant.

This paper considers the influence of internal heat exchangers to the efficiency of a refrigerating system. These internal heat exchangers(liquid-suction or suction-line heat exchangers) can, in some cases, yield improved system performance while in other cases they degrade system performance. A steady state mathematical model is used to analysis the performance characteristics of refrigeration system with internal heat exchanger. The influence of operating conditions, such as gas cooler pressure and evaporation temperatures, superheat in the evaporator and temperature of gas cooler outlet, to optimal dimensions of the heat exchanger is also analyzed in the paper. The main results were summarized as follows : the mass flowrate of R744, inner diameter tube and length of internal heat exchanger, and effectiveness have an effect on the cooling capacity, compressor work and RCI(Relative capacity index) of this system. With a thorough grasp of these effect, it is necessary to design the R744 compression refrigeration cycle using internal heat exchanger.
During the international effort to develop the next generation nuclear reactor technologies, many new power cycle concepts were derived to improve efficiency and reduce the capital cost. Among many innovative power cycles, it was identified that the supercritical $CO_2$ (S-$CO_2$) Brayton cycle technology has a big potential to outperform the existing steam cycle and eventually replace it. The S-$CO_2$ cycle achieves high efficiency with very compact size, which is the ultimate advantage for a power cycle to have. The S-$CO_2$ cycle has a great potential not only for the future nuclear applications but also for general heat sources such as coal, natural gas, and concentrated solar. In this paper, a brief introduction to the S-$CO_2$ power cycle technologies will be first provided, and a short summary of current research and development status of the power cycle technology around the world will be followed. Especially the research works performed by KAIST, KAERI and several related research institutions in Korea will be reviewed in more detail, since they have recently developing a strong infrastructure to test these ideas by constructing a demonstration facility while producing many innovative ideas to improve and realize the concept.
The previous etching, rinsing and drying processes of wafers for MEMS (microelectromechanical system) using SC-$CO_2$ (supercritical-$CO_2$) consists of two steps. Firstly, MEMS-wafers are etched by organic solvent in a separate etching equipment from the high pressure dryer and then moved to the high pressure dryer to rinse and dry them using SC-$CO_2$. We found that the previous two step process could be applied to etch and dry wafers for MEMS but could not confirm the reproducibility through several experiments. We thought the cause of that was the stiction of structures occurring due to vaporization of the etching solvent during moving MEMS wafer to high pressure dryer after etching it outside. In order to improve the structure stiction problem, we designed a continuous process for etching, rinsing and drying MEMS-wafers using SC-$CO_2$ without moving them. And we also wanted to know relations of states of carbon dioxide (gas, liquid, supercritical fluid) to the structure stiction problem. In the case of using gas carbon dioxide (3 MPa, $25^{\circ}C$) as an etching solvent, we could obtain well-treated MEMS-wafers without stiction and confirm the reproducibility of experimental results. The quantity of rinsing solvent used could be also reduced compared with the previous technology. In the case of using liquid carbon dioxide (3 MPa, $5^{\circ}C$, we could not obtain well-treated MEMS-wafers without stiction due to the phase separation of between liquid carbon dioxide and etching co-solvent(acetone). In the case of using SC-$CO_2$ (7.5 Mpa, $40^{\circ}C$), we had as good results as those of the case using gas-$CO_2$. Besides the processing time was shortened compared with that of the case of using gas-$CO_2$.
The dry etching of sacrificial $SiO_2$ was performed in supercritical carbon dioxide. The etching of boron phosphor silica glass (BPSG), tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), thermal $SiO_2$, and Si-nitride (SiN) was investigated by using a two chamber system with HF/py etchant and alcohol additives. The etch rate of sacrificial $SiO_2$ increased upon the addition of methanol. The etch selectivity of BPSG with respect to SiN was highest with IPA although the highest etch rate was resulted from methanol except BPSG. The etch rate increased with the temperature in HF/py/MeOH system. Especially the increase of the etch rate was much higher for BPSG with an increase in the reaction temperature. The etch residue was not reduced apparently upon the addition of alcohol cosolvents to HF/py. While the etch rate in HF/$H_2O$ was higher than HF/py/alcohol system, the rate decreased with the addition of alcohols to HF/$H_2O$. The cantilever beam structure of high aspect ratios was released by the dry ething in supercritical carbon dioxide without damage.

To develop an efficient procedure related to the flamelet library, the machine learning process based on artificial neural network(ANN) is applied for the gaseous hydrogen/liquid oxygen combustor under a supercritical pressure condition. For hidden layers, 25 combinations based on Rectified Linear Unit(ReLU) and hyperbolic tangent are adopted to find an optimum architecture in terms of the computational efficiency and the training performance. For activation functions, the hyperbolic tangent is proper to get the high learning performance for accurate properties. A transformation learning data is proposed to improve the training performance. When the optimal node is arranged for the 4 hidden layers, it is found to be the most efficient in terms of training performance and computational cost. Compared to the interpolation procedure, the ANN procedure reduces computational time and system memory by 37% and 99.98%, respectively.
