The worldwide research and development for high-efficiency power generation system is progressing steadily because of the growing demand for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Many countries have spurred the research and development of supercritical $CO_2$ power generation technology since 2000 because it has the advantage of compactness, efficiency, and diversity. Supercritical $CO_2$ power generation system can be classified into an indirect heating type and a direct heating type. As of now, most studies have concentrated on the development of indirect type supercritical $CO_2$ power generation system. In the United States, NREL(National Renewable Energy Lab.) is developing supercritical $CO_2$ power generation system for Concentrating Solar Power. In addition, U.S. DOE(Department of Energy) also plans to start investing in the development of the supercritical $CO_2$ power generation system for coal-fired thermal power plant this year. GE is developing not only 10MW supercritical $CO_2$ power generation turbomachinery but also the conceptual design of 50MW and 450MW supercritical $CO_2$ power generation turbomachinery. In Korea, the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute has constructed the supercritical $CO_2$ power generation test facility. Moreover, KEPRI(Korea Electric Power Research Institute) is developing a 2MW-class supercritical $CO_2$ power generation system using diesel and gas engine waste heat with Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Daidzein and genistein were extracted from Korean soybean by supercritical $CO_2$ and sub/supercritical water. The extracted sample was analyzed by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). The retention time, retention factor, column efficiency, column selectivity and resolution of aglycons were compared with the change in the temperature and pressure of supercritical fluid and ethanol concentration. The characteristics of extraction of daidzein and genistein were more affected by ethanol concentration using supercritical $CO_2$. The most desirable extraction yield was obtained by supercritical $H_2O$ with $400^{\circ}C$ and 250 bar. Generally, the extraction yield of aglycons increased over 10 times using supercritical $CO_2$ than sub/supercritical $H_2O$.

Supercritical $CO_2$($scCO_2$) extraction has a great possibility to be a new process to recover metal and to replace the existing leaching/solvent extraction processes. The cobalt extraction was carried out using $scCO_2$ from cobalt sulphate solution. The bis (2,4,4-trimethylpentyl) phosphinic acid and diethylamine ligands were used to extract cobalt ion in $scCO_2$. The recommended method consists of $scCO_2$/extractants complexation process and metal extraction process at 60, 200bar. Experimental results showed that the extraction efficiency of Co was increased by 16-99% with increasing the ligand amount.
In this study, electroless plating of copper was performed on PET film by using the blend of supercritical $CO_2$ and plating solution. The optimum volumetric ratio of supercritical fluid and plating solution was found to be 1:9 and dispersion property was poor at $CO_2$ vol% langer than 10%. Electroless plating of copper was best at $25^{\circ}C$ and 15 MPa. Role of added supercritical $CO_2$ is not to increase solubility but to disperse and maintain Cu-particles as the 1st particles.

In the present study, a 3-dimensional (3D) numerical model was developed to mimic the micro porous structure of a geological $CO_2$ storage reservoir. Especially, 3D modeling technique assigning random pore size to a 3D micro porous structure was devised. Numerical method using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) was applied for the 3D micro porous structure to calculate supercritical $CO_2$ flow field. The three different configurations of 3D micro porous model were designed and their flow fields were calculated. For the physical conditions of $CO_2$ flow, temperature and pressure were set up equivalent to geological underground condition where $CO_2$ fluid was stored. From the results, the characteristics of the supercritical $CO_2$ flow fields were scrutinized and the influence of the micro pore configuration on the flow field was investigated. In particular, the pressure difference and consequent $CO_2$ permeability were calculated and compared with increasing $CO_2$ flow rate.
The requirement for a much finer line width circuits on semiconductors needs new developers such as supercritical fluid to prevent the collapse of the photoresist micro-patterns. The copolymers contain t-butyl methacrylate having an acid-cleavable t-butyl group and supercritical fluid $CO_2$ soluble perfluorinated decyl methacrylate segments. The supercritical fluid $CO_2$-philic properties of the photoresist changed to supercritical fluid $CO_2$-phobic properties after the deprotection reaction by exposure, which made the exposed resist insoluble in the supercritical fluid $CO_2$ developer. The synthesized copolymers containing more than 30% of perfluorinated decyl methacrylate were found to be soluble in supercritical fluid $CO_2$. The variation of film thickness before and after exposure was largest when the mole ratio of perfluorinated decyl methacrylate in the copolymer was 30%.
We investigated changes in the chemical composition of apple slices after pretreatment with supercritical $CO_2$. Total phenolic levels increased with increasing temperature, although the concentrations were lower in pretreated material than in fresh or untreated slices. The levels of vitamin C and malic acid in pretreated slices were also lower than in untreated or fresh apple slices. Little difference was evident among various pretreatmentconditions. It was found that supercritical $CO_2$ served not as a solvent but rather as a means of tissue compression. Supercritical $CO_2$ compressed the apple slices, causing juice to be extruded. The juice disappeared when the supercritical $CO_2$ pressure was released.

In this study, the extraction of Conger myriaster oil by using supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) and organic solvent was investigated. The extraction conditions conducted for SC-CO2 varied for pressure (25, 30 MPa) and temperature (45, 55 ℃), while the SC-CO2 flow rate was kept constant during the experiment (27 g min-1) and hexane was used as a conventional organic solvent. The extraction yield indicated that the best extraction condition would be SC-CO2 at 55 ℃ and 30 MPa, resulting in the highest yield of 37.73 ± 0.14%. The oils were characterized for their fatty acid (FAs) composition using gas chromatography, while it was revealed that the major FAs were mystric acid, palmitoleic acid, oleic acid, electroosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The oxidation stability of the extracted C. myriaster oil was evaluated by measuring the acid value, peroxide value, and free fatty acid. The best oxidative stability was obtained from SC-CO2 extracted oil at 30 MPa and 55 ℃. There was a significant difference in the color properties of the SC-CO2 and hexane extracted oils, with the SC-CO2 extracted oil showing better chromaticity than the oil extracted using hexane. Extracting oils from C. myriaster with SC-CO2 could bring better economic benefits than using organic solvents. When supercritical carbon dioxide was used, there was no post-treatment process; thus, it was confirmed that this is a more environmentally friendly oil extraction method.
