Removal of the Bittering Substances from Brewer's yeast by Supercritical Carton Dioxide (초임계 이산화탄소를 이용만 맥주효모로부터 고미성분 제거)

  • Supercritical Carbon Dioxide was evaluated and optimized for the enrichment and fractionation of the essential oil and the bitter principles of hops, both of which contribute to the flavor of beer, Selected conditions of extraction(pressure, temperature and co-solvent) influenced the composition, the olfactory results and the colour of the extract. Optimal extraction conditions were 30 min, 1800 psia and $ >45^{\circ}C $ with co-solvent. Under these conditions, yield was 65% from brewer's yeast. The bittering substances from brewer's yeasts almost were removed.

Optimization in Extraction Conditions of Carotenoids from Citrus unshiu Press Cake by Supercritical Carbon Dioxide (초임계 이산화탄소에 의한 감귤박으로부터 카로테노이드 추출 조건의 최적화)

  • Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to investigate the effects of the processing parameters on supercritical $CO_2\;(SC-CO_2)$. extraction of total carotenoids and ${\beta}$-cyptoxanthin from Citrus unshiu press cake. The parameters tested were $SC-CO_2$ pressure, dynamic extraction time, and concentration of ethanol added as the modifier to $CO_2$. Experimental data correlated well with the processing parameters (p<0.01), and there was a high statistically significant multiple regression relationship for the extraction of total carotenoids and ${\beta}-cyrptoxanthin$ ($R^2=0.9789$ and 0.9796, respectively). The optimal processing conditions were extraction pressure 33.4 and 37.3 MPa, extraction time 39.6 and 41.0 min, ethanol concentration 18.6 and 17.0% for total carotenoids and ${\beta}-cryptozanthin$, respectively. Maximum extraction yields predicted by RSM were 61.1 and 95.8% ppm, respectively. The extraction yield of total carotenoids increased asymptotically with the increase of the extraction pressure. It increased in proportion to extraction time and concentration of the cosolvent. The extraction yield of ${\beta}-cryptoxanthin$ increased with extraction pressure, extraction time, and concentration of the cosolvent. The extraction time and the concentration of the cosolvent, and the interaction between extraction time and the concentration of the cosolvent significantly affected the extraction yields of carotenoids from C. unshiu press cake.

  • Maca (Lepidium meyenii) has been used as a food and medicine in Peru for thousands of years. More recently a wide array of commercial maca products have gained popularity as dietary supplements with claims of anabolic and aphrodisiac effects. Even though the biologically active principles of maca are not fully known, the lipidic extract of maca tubers containing macamides showed promising physiological activities. In this study, the lipidic extract were collected from maca tubers by using supercritical carbon dioxide ($SCO_2$). Substance estimated as macamide in the extract was isolated and purified by preparative HPLC with recycling system. Two of the purified substance was identified as N-benzyl-5-oxo-6E,8E-octadecadienamide and N-benzylhexadecan amide by LC/MS, $^1H$-NMR and $^{13}C$-NMR analyses.

Optimization of Production Yield for Neohesperidin by Response Surface Methodology (반응표면 분석법을 이용한 neohesperidin 생산 수율의 최적화)

  • Neohesperidin is a natural new nutrition sweetener, widely existing in plants of dry citrus peel, which can be derived from extraction. Since the sweetness is 1,300-1,500 times greater than that of sugar, neohesperidin are widely used in fruit juices, wines, beverages, bakeries and pharmaceutical formulations, and are particularly suitable for consumption by diabetic patients. However, the yield of extraction from citrus peel waste is very low. In this study optimal yield conditions were determinedusing response surface methodology (RSM) in order to increase the neohesperidin extraction yield. The critical factors for maximum extraction yield were selected extraction pressure ($x_1$), extraction time ($x_2$), and concentration of ethanol ($x_3$). As a result, the extraction yield was improved when the extracting pressure increased. The extraction yield also increased in a time-dependent manner. When adding ethanol as an assistance solvent to the supercritical carbon dioxide, extraction yield was increased as more ethanol concentration was added. Finally, the extraction yield of neohesperidin was improved to about 162.22% compared to ethanol extraction as a conventional method.

Assessment of the possibility as Cosmetics Materials by Brown algae from Jeju Island Using Supercritical Fluid System (초임계 유체 기술을 이용한 제주산 갈조류의 화장품 소재로서의 가능성 평가)

  • Although various biological extracts derived from the resources from Jeju are currently being developed for cosmetic materials, few studies using Brown algae from Jeju have been conducted. This study identified materials with high antioxidant levels and examined their whitening effects to assess their feasibility as potential cosmetic resources. Brown algae from Jeju (Undaria pinnatifida (Harvey) Suringar, Laminaria japonica, Ecklonia cava, Hizikia fusiforme (Harvey) Okamura (HF), and Sargassum fulvellum (Turner) C. Agardh (SF) were processed using a supercritical fluid system at 50℃ and 400 bar, and their total phenol content, antioxidant activity, tyrosinase inhibition, and primary skin irritation were measured. Of all the samples, only SF using the supercritical fluid system (SFS) displayed concentration-dependent behavior for the total phenol content (p<0.05). Among the samples, the antioxidant activity of SFS was significantly higher (p<0.05) and the one increased at higher concentrations (p<0.05). On the other hand, tyrosinase was inhibited to a greater extent with HF than the others. The primary skin irritation tests showed that none of the samples were skin irritants. This study confirmed the feasibility of using Phaeophyceae from Jeju as potential cosmetic materials, where the samples can be selected and utilized based on the required physicochemical properties.

Quality Characteristics of Ginseng Seed Oil Obtained by Different Extraction Methods (추출방법에 따른 인삼씨유의 품질특성)

  • This study aimed to determine the quality characteristics of ginseng seed oil as well as evaluate the efficacy of ginseng seed oil as a food resource. Ginseng seed oil was obtained by different extraction methods; from solvent extraction oil, supercritical fluid extraction oil, and screw pressed extraction oil. Total unsaturated fatty acids were present at 97.72~97.92%. Oleic acid (80.13~81.16%) was the highest, followed by linoleic acid (14.98~15.69%). The total phenol content (mg gallic acid equivalent/100 g oil) was higher in screw pressed extraction oil ($56.32{\pm}1.47$) compared to others. ${\gamma}$-Tocopherol was only present in ginseng seed oil and screw pressed extraction oil showed the highest levels of ${\gamma}$-tocopherol ($5.95{\pm}0.25$ mg/100g oil) among the tested samples. Screw pressed extraction oil showed the greatest oxidative stability with an induction time of 16.58 hours. Acid values and peroxide values of ginseng seed oil increased with increasing storage period. The total phenol and ${\gamma}$-tocopherol contents were higher in screw pressed extraction oil than in other ginseng seed oils, which suggests that screw pressed extraction oil has the greatest oxidative stability.

  • The type photographic optical system is designed by using numerical method. Initially the paraxial quantites, numerical solutions are found for the system which is free from the Seidel seven aberrations. The final system has f/4 with the half field angle 20$^{\circ}$, and the image size is 36mm with the focal length of 50mm.
