The span-lengthening of PSC I girder has increased the risk of lateral instability of the girder with the increases in the aspect ratio and self-weight of the girder. Recently, collapses of PSC I girder during construction raise the necessity of evaluating the lateral instability of the girder. Thus, the present study evaluated the lateral behavior and instability of PSC I girders under wind load, regarded as one of the main causes of the roll-over collapse during construction. Lateral instability of the girder is mainly dependent on the length of the girder and the stiffness of the support. The analysis results of this study showed the decrease in the critical wind load and the increase in the critical deformation and angle of the girder, leading to the lateral instability of the girder. Finally, this study proposed analytical equations that can predict the critical amount of wind load and lateral deformation of the girder, which would provide quantitative management values to maintain lateral stability of PSC I girder during construction.
This study was conducted to investigate the early-age behavior and performance of precast pavements constructed by replacing existing asphalt pavements for an intersection in urban bus only lanes. The monitoring items included level differences between asphalt pavement and precast panels at the beginning and ending locations of the precast pavement, level differences and joint widths between precast panels, precast panel settlement, and skid resistance of the panel surface. At a certain time after the construction, the diamond grinding method was applied and its effect was also investigated. The monitoring results showed that as time went by, the panel level, joint width, settlement, and skid resistance were not much varied. That implied the stable sustaining of external loads by the precast pavements. In addition, it was verified that employing diamond grinding could reduce the level differences between precast panels.
In this study, specimens of rigid frame joint were produced by integrating joints with adhesive and other specimens were produced by inserting a wooden gusset integrated with a column member into a slit-processed beam member and joining them with pins. Then the moment resistance performances of the specimens were examined. For the wooden gusset, a GFRP-reinforced wooden gusset was used. The calculation results of perfect elasto-plasticity for the frame specimens for which a GFRP-reinforced wooden gusset was inserted into and joined with the slit-processed beam member by pins were 20-80% lower compared to the control group which consisted of steel plate-inserted frame specimens. The rigid frame specimens for which the column and beam members have been integrated with adhesive showed almost no initial residual transformations, as well as 38% greater initial rigidity and 41% greater plasticity compared to the steel plate-inserted joint.

This paper describes characteristics of transient voltage waveforms caused by human electrostatic discharges(ESDs). For purpose of achieving the statistics on the meaningful amplitude and initial slope for transient ESD voltage waveforms, transient voltages due to human ESDs in various conditions were observed. A voltage measuring system with a wide bandwidth from DC to 400[MHz] was employed. ESD voltage waveforms are approximately the same as ESD current waveforms. Also the simulated results, which are calculated by the reposed equivalent circuit, are closely similar to the measured voltage waveforms. ESD voltage waveforms are strongly dependent on the approach speed and material of intruder, a fast approach causes ESD voltage waveform with a steep rise time than for a slow approach. The voltage waveforms from dialect finger ESDs have a relatively long rise time of 10∼30[ns], but their peaks are low. On the other side ESD voltage waveforms causer by screwdriver with insulating handle have a steep slope with a very short, less than 1[ns] rise time, but their initial spikes are extremely high The obtained results in this work would be applied to solve ESD problems for low voltage and small current electronic devices.

This study was conducted to investigate the early-age performance of precast pavements constructed by replacing existing asphalt pavements for a bus stop section in urban bus only lanes. The behavior monitoring items included the differences in the levels between asphalt and precast pavements at the entrance and exit of the precast pavement, joint widths and level differences between precast slabs, slab settlement, and skid resistance at the slab surface. The applicability of diamond grinding techniques was also investigated. The results of this study showed that the slab level, joint width, settlement, and skid resistance were not much changed as time passed, which implied that the precast pavements stably sustained vehicle loads. It was also found that employing diamond grinding could much improve the leveling between precast slabs and the surface skid resistance.
In exopolysaccharide fermentation by Aureobasidium pulluans, the effects culture conditions (concentration of nitrogen, potassium phosphate, dissolved oxygen, and initial pH) on the production of exopolysaccharide and the appearance of melanin pigment were investigated. The results are as follows. (1) The specific growth rate and the specific production rate of exopolysaccharide were inhibited by substrate when the carbon source concentration higher than $50g\;/\;{\ell}$ and the cell growth increased with increases of nitrogen source but exopolysaccharide production decreased with the nitrogen concentration when it become greater than $1\;g\;/\;{\ell}$. (2) The maximum cell growth and the maximum exopolysaccharide production were obtained at initial pH values of 3.0 and 7.5 respectively. As the initial pH increased, the yeast-like cells increased and the increased of dissolved oxygen increased the cell growth and exopolysaccharide production. (3) As the concentration of dissolved oxygen is increased or the concentration of nitrogen source is decreased, the period of melanin pigment appearance becomes shorter and the melanin pigment never appeared when the initial pH was less than 3.0 or the potassium phosphate was not added.

The present paper develops finite element procedures to calculate displacements, strains and stresses in initially stressed elastic solids subjected to static or time-dependent loading conditions. As a point of departure, we employ Hamilton's principle to obtain nonlinear equations of motion characterizing the displacement in a solid. The equations of motion reduce to linear equations of motion if incremental stresses are assumed to be infinitesimal. In the case of linear problem, finite element solutions are obtained by Newmark's direct integration method and by modal analysis. An analytic solution is referred to compare with the linear finite element solution. In the case of nonlinear problem, finite element solutions are obtained by Newton-Raphson iteration method and compared with the linear solution. Finally, the effect of the order of Gauss-Legendre numerical integration on the nonlinear finite element solution, has been investigated.

This paper presented analysis methods for adapting E-glass fiber/epoxy composite (GFRP) materials to an automotive leaf spring. It focused on the static behaviors of the leaf spring due to the material composition and its fiber orientation. The material properties of the GFRP composite were directly measured based on the ASTM standard test. A reverse implementation was performed to obtain the complete set of in-situ fiber and matrix properties from the ply test results. Next, the spring rates of the composite leaf spring were examined according to the variation of material parameters such as the fiber angles and resin contents of the composite material. Finally, progressive failure analysis was conducted to identify the initial failure load by means of an elastic stress analysis and specific damage criteria. As a result, it was found that damage first occurred along the edge of the leaf spring owing to the shear stresses.
Initial adsorption rates of brown and milled rices at relative humidity of $57{\sim}86%$ were examined at $25^{\circ}C$. The adsorption equations at RH 75% for brown and milled rices were expressed as: log($d{\omega}/dt{\times}10^{3}$)=-0.8108 log t+3.0347 and log($d{\omega}/dt{\times}10^{3}$)=0.8451 log t+3.0087, respectively, where ${\omega}$ is the moisture content(%, db) and t is storage time (hr). The moisture content at RH $57{\sim}86%$ could be calculated from above equations using a conversion factor for each RH.
