The biaxial tensile strength of concretes was measured by the Biaxial Flexure Test(BFT) which was recently developed to measure the biaxial tensile strength of concretes. From the test result, The circular specimen is generally fractured after 1${\sim}$3 of the initial crack were formed on the top of specimen. The direction and number of the initial crack was completely arbitrary. As the specimen was larger, the number of the crack increased. And, the strengths of the different radii and thickness of specimens were calculated by the commercial finite element program to study the size effect of the biaxial tensile strength like the uniaxial tensile strength. The parameters such as radii to the support and to the load point, were studied using the program. The results of the FE analysis were entirely consistent with the predictive solution, when b/a>0.4, and the thickness of the specimens were increased. On the other hands, those with lesser free length showed good results.

This paper verified the lateral resisting capacity of CFT column-RC flat plate connection in comparison with general RC column-flat plate connection and detected moment capacity and ductility capacity of connection according to lateral force-displacement ratio. We made and tested specimens which have different variables respectively and as a result derive a following conclusion. In CFT specimen a critical section was extended and initial stiffness and moment increased 35%, 25$^{\sim}$35% respectively in comparison to general RC column specimen. In all specimens generally shear governed behaviors and in CFT specimen complemented with seismic band, flexure behavior region of slab was extended and also ductility ratio and energy absorptance increased.

The membrane structure maintains stable form by giving initial tension to ductile membrane and increasing the stiffness of exterior that is much adopted in the large span spatial structure by making its thickness thin. This kind of membrane structure has characteristic that can express free-form curve, so the selection of structural form is very important. So, this paper proposes the expression of free-form surface based on NURBS basis function and the finite element method considering geometrical nonlinearity for the deduction of large deformation result. Also, for minimizing the approximation of the surface that is derived from the form-finding result, the interface method that change finite element mesh to NURBS is proposed. So, the optimum surface of free-form membrane is derived.
In this study, in order to take advantage of samples collected in the Jangbogo station, and to grasp the liquefaction resistance characteristics of the dynamic load was performed cyclic triaxial test. Also, through the comparison with the existing literature. The test results, for the relationship between number of cycles for the same cyclic shear stress ratio and the cyclic shear stress ratio to produce an axial strain of 5%, in all samples, the cyclic shear stress ratio to liquefaction for the specimen, which has been liquefied, was increased, whereas number of cycles were reduced. The cyclic shear stress ratio of samples first decrease up to the fine content of about 10%. After this strength level, there is a little increase in cyclic shear stress ratio with increasing fine content. In addition, the cyclic shear stress ratio between cohesive strength, mean particle size, and friction angle decrease but some time later, there was a tendency that cyclic shear stress ratio is a little increased.
In early days, to analyze the behavior of single pile under axial load, many assumptions were made and field tests were performed. But in recent days, the development of computers led the use of the numerical analysis resulting in more realistic and correct results. The numerical methods are classified into Load Transfer Method and Elastic Solid Approach. In this study a numerical program applying t-z model to Load Transfer Method suggested by Coyle & Reese was developed. And another finite difference program using matrix based on this load transfer was developed. As a result, it is found that the values of the F.D.M. were similar to the values measured in-situ.

This paper presents a matrix analysis to get the torsional behavior of core structures with torsional reinforcements. Based on simplified assumptions, formulae for the forces and displacements of cote structures subjected to three typical load cases, i.e. uniformly distributed torque, triangularly distributed torque and a concentrated torque at the top of the structure, are derived analytically. The behavior of the cote according to the variation of reinforcement locations is investigated to estimate the optimum locations of reinforcements to minimize the core rotations and bimoments. The results by the program MIDAS-GEN have shown that this analysis can give quite satisfactory results for structural models with torsional reinforcements. Although three dimensional analysis by computer has come within reach as a normal structural design procedure, its use as an optimization tool may not be desirable in view of the expense and time required. Formulae that we presented here can be used to estimate the torsional rotations and forces of practical cote structures at the preliminary design stages.
In order to trace the lateral post-buckling behaviors of thin-wafled space frames, a geometrically nonlinear finite element formulation is presented by applying incremental equilibrium equations based on the updated Lagrangian formulation and introducing Vlasov's assumption. The improved displacement field for symmetric thin-walled cross sections is introduced based on inclusion of second order terms of finite rotations, and the potential energy corresponding to the semitangential rotations and moments is consistently derived. For finite element analysis, tangent stiffness matrices of the thinwalled space frame element with 7 degrees of freedom including the restrained warping for each node are derived by using the Hermition polynomials as shape functions. A co-rotational formulation in order to evaluate the unbalanced loads is presented by separating the rigid body rotations and pure deformations from incremental displacements and evaluating the updated direction cosines of the frame element due to rigid body rotations and incremental member forces from pure deformations. Finite element solutions for the spatial buckling and post-buckling analysis of thin-walled space frames are presented and compared with available solutions and other researcher's results.
The high precision analysis by the p-version of the finite element method are fairly well established as highly efficient method for linear elastic problems, especially in the presence of stress singularity. It has been noted that the merits of the p-version are accuracy, modeling simplicity, robustness, and savings in user's and CPU time. However, little has been done to exploit their benefits in elasto-plastic analysis. In this paper, the p-version finite element model is proposed for the materially nonlinear analysis that is based on the incremental theory of plasticity using the constitutive equation for work-hardening materials, and the associated flow rule. To obtain the solution of nonlinear equation, the Newton-Raphson method and initial stiffness method, etc are used. Several numerical examples are tested with the help of the square plates with cutout, the thick-walled cylinder under internal pressure, and the circular plate with uniformly distributed load. Those results are compared with the theoretical solutions and the numerical solutions of ADINA
A clearly consistent finite element formulation for geometrically non-linear analysis of space frames is presented by applying incremental equilibrium equations based on the updated Lagrangian formulation and introducing Vlasov's assumption. The improved displacement field for symmetric cross sections is introduced based on inclusion of second order terms of finite rotations, and the potential energy corresponding to the semitangential rotations and moments is consistently derived. For finite element analysis, elastic and geometric stiffness matrices of the space frame element are derived by using the Hermitian polynomials as shape functions. A co-rotational formulation in order to evaluate the unbalanced loads is presented by separating the rigid body rotations and pure deformations from incremental displacements and evaluating the updated direction cosines of the frame element due to rigid body rotations and incremental member forces from pure deformaions. Finite element solutions for the spatial buckling and post-buckling analysis of space frames are compared with available solutions and other researcher's results.

The failure mechanism of a hollow bridge deck which is made of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) to improve its durability and life time significantly is investigated using both experiments and analyses. While the Load-displacement behavior of the deck in the longitudinal direction is almost linear just before the failure, the behavior in the transverse direction shows a strong nonlinearity even in its initial response with relatively small magnitude of loads. We found that the nonlinearity is due to the imperfection of the connection between the flange and the web; a plastic deformation can t라e place in the connection. The argument is demonstrated using a simple structural model in which a rigid plastic hinge is introduced to the connection. We also checked the contribution of the delamination mechanism to the failure. But the delamination is not the main mechanism which initiates and causes the failure of the bridge deck. In order to improved the structural behavior of the deck in the transverse direction, we suggested that the empty space of the bridge deck is filled with a foam and confirmed the improved behavior by a numerical analysis.
