This paper presents an analytical model on nonlinear hysteretic behavior of hybrid steel beam with reinforced concrete ends. The modeling method and appropriate coefficients with IDARC2D were proposed from the comparison with previous test results. Since the polygonal model of IDARC2D nay overestimate, new analytical model with the initial stiffness reduction coefficient was proposed. The hysteretic coefficients for the analysis of the hybrid steel beam with reinforced concrete ends were also presented. The analytical results were compared with previous experiments. The initial stiffness and the strength were predicted with less than 5% error and 10% error, respectively.

The load distribution and deformation of single piles which is embedded in Jumunjin sand and Kimhae clay are investigated, based on small scale model tests. Special attention is given to the consideration of flexural rigidity in laterally loaded piles. To consider the flexural rigidity of the pile, tests are performed with the aluminium piles of three different length under different relative densities and undrained shear strength. The test results indicate that the initial slope from the results of tests is proportional to the depth and pile-soil rigidity in both soils. But the increasing rate of the initial slope in the clay is less than in the sand. In addition, the soil resistance is more related to the depth and soil condition than the pile rigidity. Base on the test results, an empirical formula is proposed, which is good agreement with previously published small scale model test and field lateral load test.
Shear test procedure for concrete-dowel interaction was proposed along with determination of dowel support reaction factor or shear spring stiffness constant using the spreadsheet example. For this task, three AASHTO-type standard specimens were prepared to simulate behavior of the jointed concrete pavement. A side support system was adopted to minimize twisting of the test specimen which had been observed in a preliminary test. A typical elastic behavior of the dowel-concrete interaction was observed from several test loops of loading, unloading and reloading procedures. However load versus slab displacement represents to be nonlinear. Test results show that the dowel support reaction factor ranges from 550-880 GN/m3, which is 1.4-2.2 times greater than 407GN/m3 proposed by Yoder and Witczak. This is because less torsional distraction was occurred with the help of a side support system adopted in this experiment. The dowel support reaction factor or shear spring stiffness constant obtained from the procedures proposed in this paper may be used as a reference data for the structural analysis of jointed concrete pavement.
This paper describes a systematic way of simultaneously identifying the ambient pore pressure and the rigidity index $(=G/s_u)$ of soil by applying an optimization technique to the early part of piezocone dissipation test result. An analytical solution developed by Randolph & Wroth(1979) was implemented in normalized from to express the build-up and dissipation of excess pore pressures around a piezocone as a function of the rigidity index. An ambient pore pressure and optimal rigidity index were determined by minimizing the differences between theoretical and measured excess pore pressure curves using optimization technique. The effectiveness of the proposed back-analysis method was examined against the well-documented performance of piezocone dissipation tests(Tanaka & Sakagami, 1989), from the viewpoints of proper determination of selected target parameters and saving of test duration. It is shown that the proposed back-analysis method can evaluate properly the ambient pore pressure and the rigidity index by using only the early phase of the dissipation test data. Also, it is shown that the proposed back-analysis method permits the horizontal coefficient of consolidation to be identified rationally. Consideration for strain level of back-analyzed rigidity index shows that it corresponds to at least intermediate to large strain level.

This paper presents an efficient reanalysis algorithm, named PRAS (Partial Reanalysis algorithm using Adaptable Substructuring), for the partially changed structures. The algorithm recalculates directly any displacement or member force under consideration in real time without a full reanalysis in spite of local changes in member stiffness or connectivity_ The key procedures consists of 1) partitioning the whole structure into the changed part and the unchanged part, 2) condensing the internal degrees of freedom and forming the unchanged part substructure, 3) assembling and solving the new stiffness matrix from the unchanged part substructure and the changed members.
In the post-beam structure, the infilled light-frame construction provides most shear strengths. Shear properties of the light-frame structure can be estimated from the shear properties of nailed connection for the sheathings, and those of nailed connections can be done from nail bending strengths. For the basic study to predict the yield strength and the slip modulus of a nailed sheathing shear wall, those of a nailed joint were examined from nail bending strengths. To estimate shear properties of a nailed connection, referenced bearing strength and bearing constant for the wood members and the experimental nail bending strengths of the helically threaded nail were applied. The yield strength using the diameter at grooves instead of shank diameter was well coincided with the experimental value, but the slip modulus was estimated much smaller. The effective factors, specific gravity for the main member, withdrawal by nail head diameter to the side member, and embedment and moment at the nail head were considered, and further examinations are needed for the precise prediction of the nailed connections.
Stability and mechanical deformation behavior of rock masses are highly dependent on the mechanical characteristics of contained discontinuities. Therefore, mechanical characteristics of the discontinuities should be considered in the design of tunnel and underground structures. In this study, direct shear tests for rough granite joints were carried out under constant normal stiffness conditions. Effects of initial normal stress, shear velocity, and surface roughness on the characteristics of shear strength and deformation behaviors were examined. Results of shear testing under constant normal stiffness conditions reveal that shear behaviors could be classified into two categories, based on the amount of decrease in shear stress at the Int peak shear stress. With initial normal stiffness increasing, it turned out that shear displacement at peak stress and the first peak shear stress increased, however friction angle and friction coefficient showed decrease. In case of shear stiffness and average friction coefficient, it turned out that they are not dependent on the initial normal stress. Minor effects of shear velocity on rough joints were observed in several shear quantities. However, the effects of shear velocity were insignificant regardless of the normal stress increase. Change of shear strength and deformation characteristics on joint roughness were examined, however, it turned out that the variations were attributed to deviation of shear test specimens.
A new non-destructive fatigue prediction model of the composite laminates is developed. The natural frequencies of fatigue-damaged laminates under extensional loading are related to the fatigue life of the laminates by establishing the equivalent flexural stiffness reduction as a function of the elastic properties of sublaminates. The flexural stiffness is derived by relating the 90-ply elastic modulus reduction, and using the laminate plate theory to the degraded elastic modulus and the intact elastic modulus of other laminates. The natural frequency reduction model, in which the dominant fatigue mode can be identified from the sensitivity scale factors of sublaminate elastic properties, provides natural frequency vs. fatigue cycle curves for the composite laminates. Vibration tests were also conducted on $[{90}_2/0_2]_s$ carbon/epoxy laminates to verify the natural frequency reduction model. Correlations between the predictions of the model and experimental results are good.
This paper describes a systematic way of identifying the horizontal coefficient of consolidation of clayey soil by applying an optimization technique to the early part of dissipation data measured from the self-boring pressuremeter strain holding test. An analytical solution developed by Randolph & Wroth (1979) was implemented in normalized form to express the build-up of excess pore pressures as a function of the rigidity index and subsequent dissipation of excess pore pressures around a pressuremeter Horizontal coefficient of consolidation was determined by minimizing the differences between theoretical and measured excess pore pressure curves over 50% degree of dissipation range using optimization technique. The effectiveness of the proposed back-analysis method was examined against the real fled performances obtained from pressuremeter strain holding tests at Gimje and Yangsan site. It is shown that the proposed back-analysis method can evaluates the rational horizontal coefficient of consolidation, which is similar to those obtained from the piezocone dissipation test. Furthermore, proposed method can evaluate appropriate coefficient of consolidation for soil under partially drained condition.
