Using the questionnaires taken by 777 first grade students in six high schools in Daegu, this study was conducted from August 20th to September 10th in 2007. Statistical data analysis were completed using the SPSS 12.0 program. The results of this study were as follows : First, girls are more interested in weight-control than boys, especially about obesity. As a result, they try to control their weight to lose weight in high school days with the right perception of weight. They also have good knowledge about weight-control and cut down the food intake. We need to study more about the reason why the self-esteem of girls' obesity group is high. Second, most of the boys controled weight for their health and they did exercise to lose weight and they are more satisfied with the result of weight-control and self-esteem than girls. About the body type, boys got affected by friends, and girls by TV. In boys' case, as the BMI is low and the difference between their present weight and ideal weight is small, they are more satisfied with the result of weight-control and prefer physical activities. In girls' case, as the BMI is low and their satisfaction with the weight-control result is high, they have good eating habit and high self-esteem. Third, compared with the weight group and their self-esteem, in boys' case, low-weight boys are high when they do physical activities more than 20 minutes, whereas when the normal-weights and over-weights are satisfied with their weight-control result, and the obese have good eating habit, it is high. In girls' case, the self-esteem is high when the normal-weights are satisfied with their weight-control result and over-weights prefer physical activities and the obese are interested in weight-control. Especially, the obese girls group show high self-esteem when they have interest in weight-control.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to elucidate whether the obesity or body image is a barrier to breast screening compliance in Korean women. Methods: We included 54,017 women aged between 35 to 70 years from the Korea Community Health Survey (KCHS) 2014 dataset. To identify whether a mutual relationship exists between weight perceptions and breast cancer screening rates, the participants were divided into three groups according to the level of concordance between Body Mass Index (BMI) and a subjective body image. Descriptive analyses, a chi-square test, and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed. Results: After covariate adjustment, the screening rate of the overweight group was 1.09 times higher than the normal weight group (odds ratio [OR], 1.09; confidence interval [CI], 0.00-0.16; p= .038) and the severe obesity group was 1.20 times lower (OR, 0.83; CI, -0.36-0.00; p= .047). Weight misperception also had a significant influence on breast cancer screening. Especially, The overweight distortion group was less likely to undergo breast cancer screening (OR, 0.93; CI, -0.15-0.00; p= .037). Conclusion: Obesity and weight misperceptions are associated with lower compliance with breast cancer screening guidelines.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of perception of body size on actual clothing style in middle school girls. To achieve this, this study analyzed self-perception of body size, aspired clothing style, and actual clothing style. By classifying groups into thin and thick, the difference in clothing style according to groups was also analyzed. Subjects of this study were middle school girls in Gwangju and 219 responses were collected from real body measurement and questionnaires. WIN SPSS+10.0 package was used to obtain results. Results are as follows: 1. For the self-perception of body size, middle school girls perceived much thicker in the lower body than the upper body. And they were unsatisfactory about the lower body which was perceived thick. 2. In the correlation of actual and aspired clothing style of middle school girls, they wore a aspired clothing style actually. Their actual or aspired upper clothing style was to cover the skin, exposing or covering a body silhouette. Their lower clothing style was a slacks type that covers a body silhouette and the skin. 3. In selecting actual clothing styles, middle school girls were somewhat affected by self-perceived body size. But they did not prefer the clothing styles perceived thick in girth or big in width in exposing the skin or a body silhouette. On the other hand, as it was perceived long, wearing was increased. frequently wore the upper and lower clothing styles of exposing the skin or a body silhouette than the thick group. But both groups wore the clothing styles of covering the skin or a body silhouette regardless of their thinness and thickness. And when wearing the clothing style of exposing neck and shoulder, middle school girls considered actual body size more than self-perceived size. On the other hand, when wearing the clothing style of exposing arms and silhouette by fitted legs, they considered self-perceived body size more.

  • In this paper, the system which can translate sign language through motion recognition of Kinect camera system is developed for the communication between hearing-impaired person or language disability, and normal person. The proposed algorithm which can translate sign language is developed by using core function of Kinect, and two ways such as length normalization and elbow normalization are introduced to improve accuracy of translating sign langauge for various sign language users. After that the sign language data is compared by chart in order to know how effective these ways of normalization. The accuracy of this program is demonstrated by entering 10 databases and translating sign languages ranging from simple signs to complex signs. In addition, the reliability of translating sign language is improved by applying this program to people who have various body shapes and fixing measure errors in body shapes.

  • This study was carried out to investigate perception about body image, dietary attitude, nutrient intake and dietary self-efficacy of high school students in Pusan. A questionaire survey was distributed among 491 high school students. The survey was conducted from April 8 to April 22 in 2002. The results are summarized as follows. Forty percents of the underweight group, 53.9% of the normal weight group, 61.8% of the overweight group and 48.2% of obesity group have correct perception about their body image. Most of the students were concerned with their body image and weight control. Obesity of parents was significantly correlated with obesity of the subjects (p<0.01). The higher obesity rate, the lower dietary self-efficacy. The higher dietary self-efficacy, the higher dietary attitude. There was a significant positive correlation between the education level of their parents and dietary attitude of the subjects (p<0.01) and a significant negative correlation between obesity rate of their mothers and dietary attitude of the subjects (p<0.01). Dietary attitude scores showed no significant difference among the groups. Intakes of most nutrients, except protein, niacin and vitamin C, were lower than those of the recommended dietary allowances for Koreans. Therefore, proper nutrition education is required to improve their nutritional status and dietary self-efficacy.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the influencing factors of subjective health status among the subjects of the 7th year 3 (2018) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and to help provide programs for improving subjective health status in the future. Data from the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(2018) were used. Variables were age, gender, age, subjective health status, subjective body shape recognition, weight change over the past year, usual stress level, walking days per week, and strength training days per week. The higher the number of walking days per week, the lower the usual stress perception level. As the number of strength training days per week increased, the level of stress perception was lower (p<.001). The subjects' subjective health status was found to have a negative effect on their usual stress perception (β=-.759), subjective body shape (β=.111), age (β=.421), and number of days walking per week. (β=.968). Based on this study, it is intended to provide basic data for preparing programs to help improve stress perception and subjective health status in the future.
