An effective extraction methods of a garlic were investigated in order to improve the functional properties of the extracts. The solid yield, electron donating ability (EDA), nitrite-scavenging effects (NSE), peroxide value (POV) and total thiosulfinates contents of garlic extracts were determined. In order to improve the functional properties of extracts prepared with several organic solvents and acids, concentration and pH adjustment of the selected solvent and addition of acids and salts to solvents were also examined. Among the solvents tested, the methanol and ethanol extracts were found to be the most effective on the base of functionality and solid yields. The highest EDA, NSE and thiosulfinate value were obtained with 50% ethanol. The pH control of solvent and addition of citric acid, NaCl and phosphates to 50% ethanol did not affect on the functionality of the extracts. Therefore the optimal solvent for the best functional properties of garlic extract was 50% ethanol.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the commonly accepted ease for a custom-fit business jacket, which provides all customers with the optimum fit regarding their individual body sizes, shapes as well as their personal preference, and also to characterize the factors which affects the ease amount, thereby, supply the reference data to manufacturers of the apparel industry. This study consisted of anthropometric measurements as well as sensory evaluations, and analysed ease amount by body sizes, ages, fit satisfaction, self-perception of body, and the prefered fit levels. There were 272 subjects for anthropometric measurement of which 128 subjects were applied for ease analysis and sensory evaluation. The subjects were males of 20 to 65 years old. The ease at chest was the most sensitive to body sizes and shapes, while waist and hip were easily modified to accommodate the silhouette of the jacket. The main dimensions affecting individual perceptions of fit and ease were the characteristics of body shape, in particular, girth, followed by age. Customers paided most attention to the shoulder fit while customers who preferred a more fitted line showed more concern with ease for jacket fit. It was clearly observable in case of waist fit preference. In addition, the preferred fit at chest, waist and hip would be changed by the perception of ons's hip size.

Farmers' perception on actual raising conditions and breeding improvement for Hanwoo were surveyed and analyzed in order to utilize such data as basic resources for further development of courses of Hanwoo improvement and instructions on raising techniques. The survey was held based on Hanwoo farmers in Gyeongbuk region and the results for the analysis were as follow. Candidate cattle for breeding was selected in consideration of 'appearance, body shape, and pedigree-registration' (39.0%) and 'artificial insemination' (38.6%) was the most frequently used breeding method for the breeding cattle. 'Body length' was revealed to be the most considered factor while purchasing fattening calves and the castration for the fattening calves were mostly performed when '6~7 months after the birth'. The farmers also responded that they 'try to comply with over 80% of items specified in program for production of high quality beef' in order to produce high quality beef. However, the farmers believed that '12 months after the birth' was the most economic market month. Although the results differed by each items surveyed, majority of those results showed statistically significant differences with significance level of 0.05 upon the surveyees' general characteristics and demographic factors including level of education, age, occupation, and family man power. Most surveyees responded 'around 30% of shipping heads' (22.1%) for the prevalence of beef graded better than 1++ grade when shipping, however, no significant differences in between general characteristics of surveyees were observed.
This study was performed to investigate body image perceptions of women about themselves and their preschool children and also to investigate the relationship between these perceptions. Subjects were 545 women and their children (279 boys and 268 girls) residing in Daejeon city. $67.7\%$ of women were classified as normal group, $18.6\%$ as overweight group, and $13.8\%$ as underweight group by BMI. $68.5\%\;and\;78.7\%$ of their boys and girls, respectively, were classified as normal group, $22.4\%\;and\;16.4\%$ as overweight group, $9.1\%\;and\;4.9\%$ as underweight group by WLI. Women made relatively accurate judgments on their current body sizes and selected their body images as the most desirable one. But they preferred plumper figures for their children and failed to perceive their overweight children as overweight. While $74.7\%$ of women wished to be thinner, $81.1\%$ of them wished their children to be fatter. Women spending less then 100 thousand won and more than 500 thousand won as monthly food expenses and having only one child perceived their children's current body sizes the lowest and the highest, respectively. Women wished boys to be fatter than girls. Their current body sizes were correlated positively with the children's current body size (p < .01), and their healthiest, attractive, and 'wish' figures were correlated positively with children's current, healthiest, attractive, and 'wish' figures (p < .05- p < .01). Body size dissatisfaction (wish to be thinner) and BMI of women were correlated negatively with children's healthiest and attractive figures (p < .01). These findings suggest that in order to correct the women's body image misperceptions and to prevent childhood obesity, mother's perception about healthy body images for themselves and their children need to be included in nutrition education. Also, it is necessary to assist mothers to understand the relationship of body size and weight status with the risk of chronic disease which might appear later in their children's life. This study was conducted to determine family factors related to obesity of high school students. A descriptive correlational study was conducted with 384 high school students in I metropolitan city. Data were collected from February to April of 2015 using self-report structured questionnaires. Questionnaires included weight, height, individual characteristics of subjects and their familial characteristics. Collected data were analyzed by multiple logistic regression. Logistic regression analysis revealed that male gender (aOR = 4.37; 95% CI [1.26, 15.16]), having a non-regular paternal job (aOR = 3.10; 95% CI [1.15, 8.40]), and not being in a two parent family (aOR = 3.52; 95% CI [1.29, 9.61]) were statistically significant contributors to obesity. These results indicate that it is necessary to improve social awareness regarding the obesity risk of male adolescents. Health care providers should recognize the importance of family factors such as parental socioeconomic status and family structures.
Prevalence of allergic diseases is influenced by environment and dietary life. It is key to improve daily food life to relieve them. Food nutrition labeling is useful to do it by offering nutrition information. The purpose of the study is to find relationship between experience of diagnosis of allergic diseases and recognition of food nutrition labeling. The data of 4,928 people with experience on diagnosis allergic rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis of 2016 Korea National Health and Nutrition Survey was used. According to the result of binary logistic regression analysis, those who had experience in being diagnosed with an allergy showed high awareness in food labels. There were differences between allergy diagnosis groups and allergy non-diagnosis in affecting factors of residence, income level, subjective health status and body-shape perception. Support measures are needed to enhance access and convenience to nutrition education and nutrition labeling to support nutrition labeling utilization.
This study was conducted to find adolescent females perception of body image. The survey was carried out by self-questionnaires with 463 female school and college students in Daegu. Analysis of data was done using t-test, and ANOVA with the SAS computer program. The average height, weight and BMI of the subjects were 161.2cm, 53.4kg and 20.51kg/$m^2$. It appeared that 33.3% of the subjects were off the normal range of body weight ; in particular 25.1% of the subjects were under weight. While the subjects’perception of their own current body image was not distorted, they were dissatisfied with their body image because they wanted a very thin figure. Subjects were divided into 3 groups -underweight, normal weight, overweight-according to their current body size. Their perceptions of ideal and desired figures differed significantly between the groups, but they thought a thinner figure than normal body image as ideal and desired body image even in overweight group. As a result, dissatisfaction of body image in the overweight group was significantly larger than the normal-weight group, and that of the normal-weight group was larger than the underweight group. Percentages of weight control attempt were 51.7% and 64.7% in the normal weight and underweight subjects, respectively. Subjects were divided into 2 groups according to their weight control experience : those who have attempted, and who have not attempted. Weight control attemptees had a higher level of dissatisfaction with their body image than non-attemptees, both because weight control attemptees were fatter, and they perceived a thinner figure as an ideal and as a desired body image thin non-attemptees. From the results of this study, we confirmed that one of reasons of excessive weight control behavior among adolescent females was distorted perception about ideal body image.
The purpose of this study was to compare energy intake according to expected body mass index (BMI) in adolescents. A total of 280 middle school students were divided into current or/and expected obesity groups (underweight group; UWG, normal weight group; NWG, and overweight group; OWG) by BMI to compare energy intake and perception on body shape and weight control. The average age of total subjects was 15 years, and the distributions of boys and girls were 52.5% and 47.5%, respectively. The distribution of boys and girls was not significantly different among current obesity groups but was among expected obesity groups (15% and 82% in UWG vs. 71.4% and 16.5% NWG vs. 13.6% and 1.5% in OWG; P<0.001), indicating that girls wanted to lose weight more than boys. For body shape, most subjects in current obesity groups responded "fitness" in UWG (38.7%), "fitness" and "slightly chubby" in NWG (45.5% and 39%), and "slightly chubby" in OWG (65.2%), showing a significant difference (P<0.001). For interest in weight control, most subjects responded "average" in current UWcinterested" in current OWG (52.2%), whereas they responded "very interested" in expected UWG (55.7%), "average" in expected NWG (51.2%), and "not interested" in expected OWG (45.5%), showing a significant difference (P<0.001). The percentage of subjects with experience with weight control was significantly high in current OWG (71.7%), NWG (51.2%) and UWG (34.2%) as well as in expected UWG (57.3%), NWG (40.2%) and OWG (36.4%) in descending order (P<0.001). The daily energy intake of total subjects was 2,057.1 kcal without any significant difference among current obesity groups. However, it was significantly lower in expected UWG than expected NWG and OWG (1,943.1 kcal vs. 2,165.0 kcal or/and 2,152.1 kcal; P<0.001). To sum up these results, girls wanted to lose weight more than boys. The more students wanted to lose weight, the greater their experience and interest in weight control and the lower their energy intake.

This study aims to identify the image types of secondary school students' perception about the talented person in convergence and to find the differences in drawing images of the talented person in convergence among the students who have taken STEAM class and the ones who haven't. One hundred and eighty seven students in middle and high schools located in the southern part of South Korea participated in this study and they were asked to draw a picture of the talented person in convergence with a brief explanation. Based on students' pictures, researchers categorized their perception about convergence and talented person in convergence by using an inductive method. The result indicated that secondary school students' perceptions were categorized into convergence as individual cognitive processing and collective cognitive processing and convergence as outcomes. The image of the convergence in a talented person leaning toward individual cognitive processing was divided into the following seven types: idea banker type, various talented celebrity type, multi-tasking master type, multi-talented career type, active problem-solver type, creative developer type, and unrealistic ideal man type. Another image of collective cognitive processing was split into expert group type and interactive-mates group type. The other image was transformer type which is the subcategory of convergence as outcomes. From this study, it can be suggested that secondary school students express the various images of the talented person in convergence depending on experiencing STEAM or not.
This study was performed to investigate the satisfaction of body image, dietary habits, nutrition intake and dietary quality according to body image of university students (n = 290). The subjects (male = 178, female = 112) were classified to lean, normal and overweight/fat groups according to body image. The weight, body fat and body mass index (BMI) was significantly higher in the students who recognized their body image as 'overweight/fat'. The satisfaction of body image, interest of weight control and experience of weight control were significantly higher in students who recognized their body image as 'normal' in both the male and female subjects. The intakes of nutrients, dietary habits and life styles were not different according to body image. In the male subjects, the niacin intake density, the nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR) of vitamin B1 and the dietary diversity score (DDS) in the students who recognized their body image as 'overweight/fat' were significantly lower than in students who recognized their body image as 'normal' and 'lean'. In female subjects, no significant differences in nutrient intakes, NAR, MAR and DDS were observed according to body image. Future studies with a larger sample size are needed for further assessment of the relationship between nutritional status/diet quality and body image in university students.
