The properties of cement mortar mixed with manganese-doped titanium dioxide nanowires (TiO2(Mn)-NWs) were investigated in this study. The TiO2(Mn)-NWs were synthesized using solvo-thermal synthesis and electro-spinning techniques. The TiO2(Mn)-NWs at weights of 1%, 2%, and 3% of the cement were respectively mixed into the cement mortar. The results showed that as the amount of TiO2(Mn)-NWs increased, the flow value of the cement mortar was decreased and the setting time of cement mortar was accelerated. Moreover, as the amount of TiO2(Mn)-NWs increased, the compressive strength of cement mortar was increased and the efficiency of acetaldehyde removal was improved.
This study described a synthesis of MF having a arsenic removal characteristics and the fundamental research was performed about the simultaneous removal system of both As(III) and As(V) ions with the composite nanofiber membrane (PMF) based on PVdF and MF materials for the water-treatment application. From the TEM analysis, the shape and structure of MF materials was investigated. The mechanical strength, pore-size, contact angle and water-flux analysis for the PMF was performed to investigate the possibility of utilizing as a water treatment membrane. From these results, the PMF11 showed the highest value of mechanical strength ($232.7kgf/cm^2$) and the pore-diameter of composite membrane was reduced by introducing the MF materials. In particular, their pore diameter decreased with an increase of iron oxide composition ratio. The water flux value of PMF was improved about 10 to 60% compared with that of neat PVdF nanofiber membranes. From the arsenic removal characterization of prepared MF materials and PMF, it was shown the simultaneous removal characteristics of both As(III) and (V) ions, and the MF01, in particular, showed the highest adsorption-removal rate of 93% As(III) and 68% As(V), respectively. From these results, prepared MF materials and PMF have shown a great potential to be utilized for the fundamental study to improve the functionality of water treatment membrane.
In this study, $Mn_3O_4$ was synthesized by the different equivalent ratios using solution of $MnCL_2 {\cdot} 4H_2O$ and NaOH. We have investigated the crystal structure and surface area by XRD, BET Method, studied on the decompositon and adsorption of carbon dioxide with synthesized $Mn_3O_4$. As the results, we surveyed that main peak was $Mn_3O_4$, some Peaks were $MnO_2$ and $Mn_5O_8$ The specific surface area was ranged from $13.92m^2/g$ to $32.33m^2/g$. The decomposition of $CO_2$ was observed by the differential equivalent ratios at $450^{\circ}C$. $CO_2$ was well decomposed at equivalent ratio of 0.75. The amount of chemisorption of $CO_2$ was ranged from 2.885 to 19.628cc/g. Optimal equivalent ratio was 1.00 for the chemisorption of $CO_2$.
The study investrgated the properti es of lh$\xi$ dust~ from felToalloy manufacture, The chemical composition, composItron material, particle size and shapes of the bulk dust, sized dust and magnetically separated dust were llivestigated. As the result, we s suppose that the dust from HLgh Carbon Fenomauganesc Manufacturing Process is not sufficient as soource material of Mn because of the low Mn conteut (13.5%) aud complicated composition material The dust from Bag Filter of AOD Process is m mainly made up of $0.2~2\mu\textrm{m}$$Mn_3O_4$ (Hausmatmite) particle in spherical shape and the Mn content is 63.1%. The dust from Cooler of AOD Process is mainly made up of coarse $Ca(OH)_2$ Mn, $Fe_yO_2$$SiO_2$ and fine $Mn_3O_1$.

Mn was extracted by using a nitric acid from the reduced ferromanganese dust and the basic experiments were taken to refine the manganese nitrate solution by means of precipitation of Ca, Mg oxalate. The dust was generated in AOD process producing a medium-low carbon ferromanganese and collected in the bag filter. Manganese oxide content in the dust was about 90% and its phase was confirmed as $Mn_3$$O_4$. $Mn_3$$O_4$ in the dust was reduced to MnO by roasting with activated charcoal. The main impurities in the extracted solution prepared by leaching the reduced dust with nitric acid were Na, K, Fe, Si, Ca, Mg etc. Among them, Fe was removed by controlling pH of the solution more than 4 and precipitating $Fe(OH)_3$, simultaneously silicious material solved in the solution was removed by co-precipitation with the ferric hydroxide. Addition of 150 g reduced dust into 4N HNO3 solution 1$\ell$ was appropriate to control the pH of the solution to pH 4. To differ greatly the solubilities of manganese oxalate and calcium or magnesium oxalate in a solution containing a high concentration of Mn, pH of 4 or less and addition of ($NH_4$)$_2$$C_2$$O_4$ in equivalent with Ca and Mg are recommended. At this time, the higher temperature was the shorter the precipitation reaction time was needed.

Herein, we selectively recovered Zn and produced ZnSO4 from electric arc furnace dust using a hydrometallurgical process. The analysis of the properties of the electric arc furnace dust revealed that the Fe content (9.9%) was relatively low while the Mn content (19%) was high as compared to the composition of general dust. Therefore, an appropriate hydrometallurgical process was designed based on the properties of the raw materials. In the leaching process involving the use of 1.6 M sulfuric acid and 20% solid-liquid ratio at 60℃ for 1 h, 85% of the Zn and Mn got dissolved while the Fe was not leached. To selectively recover Zn, a solvent extraction process using D2EHPA as the extractant was chosen, and 99% of the Zn was extracted using 0.8 M D2EHPA with 32% saponification and an O/A ratio of 2 using counter-current 3-stage extraction. Mn was entirely scrubbed with an aqueous sulfuric acid solution of pH 1.5. Finally, Zn was concentrated and stripped using 1.5 M sulfuric acid at an O/A ratio of 4 using counter-current 4-stage stripping. The stripping solution contained 40 g/L of Zn, and 99.9% of ZnSO4∙H2O was obtained by vacuum distillation.
Microorganisms participate in a variety of geochemical processes such as weathering and formation of minerals, leaching of precious metals from minerals, and cycling of organic matter The objective of this study was to investigate biogeochemical processes of iron leaching from magnetite ore by iron-reducing bacteria isolated from intertidal flat sediments, southwestern part of Korea. Microbial iron leaching experiments were performed using magnetite ore, Shinyemi magnetite ore, in well-defined media with and without bacteria at room temperature for a month. Water soluble Fe and Mn during the leaching experiments were determined by ICP analysis of bioleached samples, and the resulting precipitated solids were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The extent of iron leaching from magnetite in the aerobic conditions (Fe = 15 mg/L and Mn = 3.41 mg/L) was lower than that in the anaerobic environments (Fe = 32.8 mg/L and Mn = 5.23 mg/L). The medium pH typically decreased from 8.3 to 7.2 during a month incubation. The Eh of the initial medium decreased from +144.9 mV to -331.7 mV in aerobic environments and from -2.3 mV to -494.6 mV in anaerobic environments upon incubation with the metal reducing microorganisms. The decrease in pH is due to glucose fermentation producing organic acids and $CO_2$. The ability of bacteria to leach soluble iron from crystalline magnetite could have significant implications for biogeochemical processes in sediments where Fe(III) in magnetite represents the largest pool of electron acceptor as well as to use as a novel biotechnology for leaching precious and heavy metals from raw materials.

An integrated iron and steel mill uses a large amount of water and produces wastewater which contains various contaminants such as iron, manganese, etc. Especially, in some regions of Southeast Asia, the concentration of silica in iron and steel mill wastewater is higher than in other countries. Silica is known to be one of the main causes for fouling in the membrane processes for water reuse. In cases of high concentrations of silica in iron and steel mill wastewater, the ferrous silicate tends to be formed. This could lead to higher fouling tendency depositing on the membrane surface. Therefore we conducted a pilot test to investigate the effect of silica and iron on the fouling tendency of reverse osmosis (RO) membrane for treating two types of wastewater from an integrated iron and steel mill. In this case of treated wastewater from iron and steel mill, RO pilot plant was operated with the fluxes 15.9LMH and 18.8LMH for 112 days to investigate the fouling characteristics. The results found that the fluctuation of flux was much wider than the average flux and the minimum permeability was low at 78%. In the case of treated runoff from an integrated iron and steel mill, the average concentration of iron was lower than in wastewater. RO pilot test was conducted with the flux 18.8LMH for 46 days. The results found that runoff had a lower fouling tendency and pre-treatment using microfiltration (MF) could minimize the fouling problem of RO.
This study constructed a 3D geological model for Uggi Nuur Fe-Mn mineralization zone in Mongolia, and the 3D geological distribution is cross-analyzed with magnetic anomaly distribution to figure out relationship between ore zone and subsurface geology. As a result of 4 step 3D modeling procedures including geological cross section, surface modeling, foliation modeling and solid modeling, the geology of the both study area is bordered by faults in NW direction with Munguntessj formation being located in the west side of the fault while Yashill formation is located on the other side of the fault. Moreover, the strike direction of foliation in the both formation shows same directional pattern with the NW faults. The magnetic anomaly distribution reveals that higher anomaly values are concentrated to near the ground surface. The analyses of 3 dimensional distribution between subsurface geology and magnetic anomaly indicates that higher anomaly is mainly distributed over the Munguntessj formation as a elongated lens bodies whereas the magnetic anomaly is evenly found in the both of Munguntessj formation and Yashill formation in the study area 2. It infers that volcanic activities associated mineralization occurred during silurian period, and the mineralized zone is thought to be realigned along the geological structures caused by later stage tectonic activities.
Recently, due to the fact that the mineral content in the wash water of the GAP-certified melon exceeds the GAP wash water standards, there are cases where the certification cannot be maintained. Therefore, agricultural industry demand requesting relaxation of the inorganic elements standard for water quality has been increasing, taking into account the consumption characteristics of Korean melon, which is eaten after removing the peel. This study was conducted to evaluate the human risks of four inorganic materials (fluorine, arsenic, iron and manganese) based on the water quality data of 142 samples of groundwater that was used for washing GAP-certified Korean melon in Seongju area from 2017 to 2019. As a result, the HQ of four minerals in Koreans who consumed groundwater used for washing GAP-certified Korean melons in the Seongju area was below 0.10 on average. In particular, in the case of iron and manganese which are esthetic influence substances, the average HQ was 0.00. The overexposure group showed 0.01, which was lower than the HQ (average 0.01, overexposure group 0.03) of the group that consumed Korean melon. Based on all the results, even if the groundwater of the Seongju area is used to wash GAP-certified Korean melon, the impact from these four inorganic materials, including iron and manganese, for Korean population consuming Korean melon will be minimal.
