Analysis of Damage Impact Range according to the NG/NH3 Mixing Ratio when applying Ammonia as Fuel for a Combined Cycle Power Plant using an ALOHA Program (ALOHA 프로그램을 활용한 복합화력발전소 내 암모니아 연료 적용 시 NG/NH3 혼소율에 따른 피해영향범위 분석)

  • In this study, a quantitative risk impact assessment is performed using an ALOHA program to identify the risks when applying ammonia as fuel for combined cycle power plants as one of the solutions of climate change. The worst and the alternative accident scenarios are established for the Sejong combined cycle power plant and the effective ranges are calculated in terms of flammability, thermal radiation, overpressure and toxicity. The analysis results show that the toxic risk is the most critical and the effective distance is highly proportional to the mixing ratio of natural gas and ammonia by showing the Pearson's correlation coefficient over 98% as 0.991, 0.987 and 0.989 for the Level Of Concern(LOC)-1, LOC-2 and LOC-3, respectively. In addition, the coefficients of linearity for LOC-1, LOC-2 and LOC-3 are calculated to 133, 70 and 29, respectively so it can be confirmed that the effective distance increases as the criterion decreases.

  • There has been no previous study on technology development of large capacity drainage pump for rescue sinking ship in the country. The agricultural drainage pump was widely used for rescue sinking ship but this pump has several problems such as efficiency, low displacement and malfunction in winter. Therefore, this paper proposes to solve the problems for swiftly rescue sinking ship and develops the drainage pump system that has $20m^3/min$ mass flow rate specification at suction head 8 m. The centrifugal pump type the most commonly used in the field of naval architecture and ocean engineering was selected and designed based on the requirement specification. The blade design of impeller was derived from the Stepanoff coefficient and requirement specification and used computational fluid dynamics to review the target mass flow rate according to the impeller RPM at design operating conditions. We also performed structure analysis of the impeller to find structurally vulnerable points for the pump in service and completed the theoretical design of drainage pump system.

Development of Simulation Method to Design Rover's Camera System for Extreme Region Exploration (극한지 탐사 로버의 카메라 시스템 설계를 위한 시뮬레이션 기법 개발)

  • In extreme environment regions, unmanned rovers equipped with various sensors and devices are being developed for long-term exploration on behalf of humans. On the other hand, due to the harsh weather conditions and rough terrain, the rover camera has limited visible distance and field of view. Therefore, the rover cameras should be located for safe navigation and efficient terrain mapping. In this regard, to minimize the cost and time to manufacture the camera system on a rover, the simulation method using the rover design is presented to optimize the camera locations on the rover efficiently. In the simulation, a simulated terrain was taken from cameras with different locations and angles. The visible distance and overlapped extent of camera images, and terrain data accuracy calculated from the simulation were compared to determine the optimal locations of the rover's cameras. The simulated results will be used to manufacture a rover and camera system. In addition, self and system calibrations will be conducted to calculate the accurate position of the camera system on the rover.

  • 석유 화학공장에서 발생하는 spent sulfidic caustic (SSC) 폐수는 액화석유가스(LPG)나 천연가스(NG)의 정제과정에서 발생되는 것으로 고농도의 sulfide와 cresylic, phenolic 그리고 mercaptan 등이 포함된 독성과 냄새를 유발하는 물질이다. 이러한 물질들은 LPG나 NG의 정제과정에서 높은 산도를 가진 휘발성 황화합 물질들을 제거하기 위해 사용된 NaOH가 $H_2S$와 반응하여 발생하는 것이다. 진한 갈색 또는 검은색을 띄는 SSC 폐수는 12 이상의 높은 pH를 가지고 있으며 5~12 wt%의 높은 염분도를 가지고 있다. 또한 강한 부식성과 독성을 가진 황화합물의 농도가 1~4 wt%이며, 방향족 탄화수소 물질 (i.e. methanethiol, benzene, tolune and phenol)들도 다량 함유되어 있다. 따라서 이러한 유해 물질들은 기존의 하수처리 공정으로 방류하기 전에 완벽하게 처리해야만 하수처리 공정의 오염 부하량을 줄일 수 있다. 습식산화공정은 SSC 폐수를 처리하기 위해 흔히 사용되고 있는 물리-화학적 처리 공정이지만 고비용, 고에너지가 필요하며, 고온 및 고압에서만 작동되어 안전상의 문제점을 갖고 있다. 또한 습식산화공정을 거친 폐수는 배출허용기준을 만족하기 위해 생물학적 2차 처리가 반드시 필요하다. 철-과산화수소를 이용하는 펜톤산화 공정, 그리고 sulfide를 sulfate로 전환시키는 생물학적 처리 공정은 황화합물의 완전한 무기물화가 힘들며, 현장 적용 시 기술적 경제적 부담이 크다. 이러한 단점을 극복하고, SSC 폐수를 효과적으로 처리하기 위해 본 연구는, 높은 흡착력과 광산화력을 가진 흡착광산화 반응 시스템(Adsorption Photocatalysis System, APS)을 개발하였다. APS는 SSC 폐수를 시스템 내부로 유입하여 수중의 오염물질을 흡착광산화제로 구성된 반응구조체가 흡착하고, 흡착된 오염물질을 UV에너지와 이산화티타늄 광촉매의 광화학반응에 의해 최종적으로 무해한 물질로 환원시키는 폐수처리시스템이다. APS의 반응구조체는 태양에너지 및 인공에너지원에 의해 활용 가능하며, 난분해성 유기화합물질을 물과 이산화탄소로 분해할 수 있는 친환경적이고 경제적인 소재로서 널리 쓰이고 있는 이산화티타늄 광촉매와 화력발전소의 높은 소성온도에 의해 연소된 후 발생되는 bottom ash를 이산화티타늄의 지지체로 사용하여 높은 흡착력과 광촉매 산화력을 가진 복합물이다. 개발된 APS에 의해 SSC 폐수를 처리한 결과, COD 86.1%, 탁도 98.4%, sulfide 99.9%의 높은 처리효율을 보여주고 있다. 따라서 본 연구를 통해 개발된 APS는 강한 부식성과 독성 그리고 높은 농도를 가지고 있는 SSC 폐수를 효과적으로 처리할 수 있다.

The Study for Utilizing Data of Cut-Slope Management System by Using Logistic Regression (로지스틱 회귀분석을 이용한 도로비탈면관리시스템 데이터 활용 검토 연구)

  • Cut-slope management system (CSMS) has been investigated all slopes on the road of the whole country to evaluate risk rating of each slope. Based on this evaluation, the decision-making for maintenance can be conducted, and this procedure will be helpful to establish a consistent and efficient policy of safe road. CSMS has updated the database of all slopes annually, and this database is constructed based on a basic and detailed investigation. In the database, there are two type of data: first one is an objective data such as slopes' location, height, width, length, and information about underground and bedrock, etc; second one is subjective data, which is decided by experts based on those objective data, e.g., degree of emergency and risk, maintenance solution, etc. The purpose of this study is identifying an data application plan to utilize those CSMS data. For this purpose, logistic regression, which is a basic machine-learning method to construct a prediction model, is performed to predict a judging-type variable (i.e., subjective data) based on objective data. The constructed logistic model shows the accurate prediction, and this model can be used to judge a priority of slopes for detailed investigation. Also, it is anticipated that the prediction model can filter unusual data by comparing with a prediction value.

  • In railroad operation, turnout is the device designed to provide very critical functions of moving the train to the neighboring rail. It's the only movable section among the rail and track equipment, which has a complicated structure and as rapid movement between the wheel and rail during operation is unavoidable, the safety and the vibration caused by the impact load of the passing train becomes always the major concern. Response to rail vibration tends to vary depending on physical properties of the rail, rail base and the ground, making it difficult to estimate the quantitative outcome through the measurement. Thus, experimental or empirical approach, rather than an analytic method, has been more commonly employed to deal with the ground vibration. To predict the vibration of the turnout, an experimental value and the measured values are applied in parallel to the factors with a high degree of uncertainty. This study hence was intended to compare and analyze the vibration values measured at the crossing part of manganese turnout by type of train and turnout and distance, as well as predict the intensity of vibration generated at the crossing part of manganese turnout when tilting train accelerates.

Image Features Based Secure Access Control for Data Content Protection (데이터 내용 보호를 위한 이미지 특징 기반의 보안 접근 제어)

  • Data security is always an important issue. In particular, the current emerging cloud computing system inevitably raises the issue of data security. However, data security is no longer safe with a simple way, but requires rather advanced method to secure the data. In this paper, instead of exploiting the existing text-based cryptography approach an image-based access control of data content is studied to present a higher level of data security. Color key chain is generated both using histogram value of the original image, and the location information and featured color information extracted by geometric transformation to form the security key to access secure data content. Finally, the paper addresses design interface and implementation for data content access control for evaluation of the proposed scheme.

Evaluation of Shear Load Carrying Capacity of Lateral Supporting Concrete Block for Sliding Slab Track Considering Construction Joint (타설 경계면을 고려한 슬라이딩 궤도 횡방향 지지 콘크리트 블록의 전단 내하력 평가)

  • Recently several researches have been conducted to develop sliding track system in which friction between concrete track and bridge slab has been reduced. This paper investigated shear load carrying capacity of lateral supporting concrete block which should be implemented to resist lateral load due to train in sliding track system. In order to evaluate shear load carrying capacity of lateral supporting concrete block, analytical model has been developed considering concrete friction and rebar dowel action along construction joint. The proposed model predicted test results on the shear load carrying capacity from literature conservatively by 13~23% because effect of aggregate interlock along crack surface was neglected. Since construction joint status is ambiguous on construction site, it can be concluded that the proposed model can be used for reasonable design of lateral supporting concrete block. Based on the proposed model, design proposal for lateral supporting concrete block has been established.

Development of an Earthquake-Resistant Model for a High-Level Waste Disposal Canister (고준위 폐기물 처분용기 내진 해석 모델 개발)

  • In the underground 500 m depth, the high level radioactive waste disposal system is made by boring the tunnel in the base rock and putting the high level waste disposal canister that is the surrounding form with the buffer material. According to the many statistics, it is the tendency that the earthquake increases in the Korean peninsula every year. In case that the earthquake is generated, the disposal canister in the rock mass can be broken due to the shearing force in the underground. Furthermore, a major environmental problems can be caused by the radioactive harmful substances. In this study, the earthquake-proof type buffer material was developed with the protection method safely on the earthquake. The main parameter having an effect on the earthquake-resistant performance was analyzed and the earthquake-proof type buffer material was designed. The shear analysis model was developed and the performance of the earthquake-proof type buffer material was evaluated by using ABAQUS.

An Automatic Collision Avoidance System for Drone using a LiDAR sensor (LiDAR 센서를 이용한 드론 자동 충돌방지 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient automatic control method for the collision avoidance of drones. In general, the drones are controlled by transmitting to the flight control (FC) module the received PWM signals transmitted from a RC controller which transduce movements of the knob into PWM signal. We implemented the collision avoidance module in-between receiver and FC module to monitor and change the throttle, pitch and roll control signals to avoid drone collision. In order to avoid the collision, a LiDAR distance sensor and a servo-motor are installed and periodically measure the obstacle distance within -45 degrees from 45 degrees in flight direction. If the collision is predicted, the received PWM signal is changed and transmitted to the FC module to prevent the collision. We applied our proposed method to a hexacopter and the experimental results show that the safety is improved because it can prevent the collision caused by the inadvertency or inexperienced maneuver.
