  • If North Korea continuously remains an isolated nation without social interaction with South Korea, the gaps in the theoretical and technological status in construction technology become greater between North and South Korea. Therefore if interactions between North and South Korea can be made, there will be significant improvement in infrastructure technological performance can be made(i.e., Reinforced Concrete bridges). This study was performed to compare and analyze data related to the design standards of North Korean RC bridges and to execute a structural analysis based on standard design specifications of RC slab bridges. Especially, basic study of analyzing the influences on design truck loads of North and South Korea was conducted for the purpose of predicting the performance of North Korean RC slab bridges and the safety levels of traveling vehicles in advance. It is expected that the results of this study can be used as fundamental data for the set-up of South-North RC bridge specification when South and North Korea enter a stage of cooperation and interaction between South and North Korea are actively pursued to prepare for reunification.

  • The researches on the early-aged concrete hydration process and the techniques for the early-aged concrete crack control mainly have been focused and developed on the massive concretes in both experimental and numerical studies. However, those researches for relatively thin members such as the upper slab of the reinforced concrete rahmen bridge have nearly been attempted. In this study, a designing technique for crack controlling in the thin members of the early-aged reinforced concrete rahmen bridges based on measured temperature history, strength revelation model and sinkage model is proposed. A method of calculating the reinforcing bar area for crack controlling is also proposed and it is found that the distributing bars under the design loads become the main reinforcing bars in the temperature stress analysis of the early-aged reinforced concrete rahmen bridges. It is shown that the proposed analysis technique is able to use the design of crack control for the early-aged reinforced concrete rahmen bridge.

  • The wheel load distribution width for lane load is not specified in current Korea bridge design code(KD code), not like in current AASHTO and AASHTO LRFD specifications which specity it as twice of wheel load distribution width for wheel load. In this study, the wheel load distribution width in continuous reinforced concrete slab bridge is investigated. The major variables affecting the wheel load distribution of a reinforced concrete continuous slab bridge are the span length, bridge width, existence edge beam and boundary condition. From a series of comprehensive parametric study on each variable, the formula for wheel load distribution in continuous reinforced concrete slab bridge is proposed from the nonlinear regression analysis of finite element analysis results. The proposed formulas can be used efficiently in the accurate design of continuous reinforced concrete slab bridges.

  • It would be much effective that single column type pier is used in concrete slab bridges rather than ${\Pi}$ or gravity type pire is used. To determine the longitudinal benging moment in concrete slab bridges supported by single column type piers, the concept of effective width is applied. By elastic plate theory cooperated with finite element method, the distribution of the longitudinal moment of the slab supported by single column type piers is studied. The main variables are span, width. thickness of the slab, and column section size. The analytical results obtained are summarized and analysed to evaluate the maximum longitudinal negative moment, then a simplified method for calculating the longitudinal moment is proposed.

  • In this paper, A reinforced concrete slab bridges is analyzed by the composite laminates theory. Both the geometry and the material of the cross section of the reinforced concrete slab bridge are considered symmetrical with respect to the mid-surface so that the bending extension coupling stiffness, Bij = 0, and D16 = D26 = 0. Each longitudinal and transverse steel layer is regarded as a lamina, and material constants of each lamina is calculated by the use of rule of mixture. This slab with simple support is under uniformly distributed vertical and axial loads. In this paper, the finite difference method and specially orthotropic laminates theory are used for analysis. The result of specially orthotropic laminates theory analysis is modified to obtain the solution of the beam analysis. The result of this paper can be used for reinforced concrete slab analysis by the engineers with undergraduate study in near future.

  • A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beams and tower structures, with irregular cross sections and with arbitrary boundary conditions was developed and reported by Kim, D. H. in 1974. In this paper, the result of application of this method to the subject problem is presented. The structure considered for this report is two span continuous special orthotropic plates with elastic intermediate support. The use of elastic support as one of the passive control means is common. Any method may be used to obtain the deflection influence surfaces needed for this vibration analysis. Finite difference method is used for this purposa in this paper. The influence of the modulus of the foundation, and $D_{ij}$ stiffnesses on the natural frequency is thoroughly studied.

  • The interference between the lattice bar of existing LB-DECK and the bars placed at site degrades the constructability, which is pointed as a problem. HB-DECK simplified the shape of lattice bar, and converted the direction of main rebar direction to the distributing bar direction, and installed the rib on the underside of HB-DECK to increase the stiffness. The purpose of this study is to verify the structural performance of HB-DECK and cast in place concrete slab. The static load test was conducted to verify the structural performance according to Korean highway bridge design code(2015) and composite behavior of HB-DECK with Cast in Place Concrete Slab. Three-dimensional finite element analysis was carried by MIDAS FEA, and analyzed to compare the result of analysis and experiment. At a result, composite behavior was examined between HB-DECK and cast in place concrete slab, and structural performance satisfied Korean highway bridge design code(2015).

  • A post-tensioned reinforced concrete slab bridge is analyzed by specially orthotropic laminate theory. Symmetrically reinforced slab with tension and compression steel is considered for convenience of analysis. Each longitudinal and transverse steel layer is regarded as a lamina, and material constants of each lamina is calculated by the use of the rule of mixture. This bridge is under uniformly distributed vertical loads, and axial loads and end moments due to post-tensioning. In this paper, finite difference method is used for numerical analysis of this bridge. Theory and analysis method of specially orthotropic laminate plates used in this paper can be used for design of new bridges, and maintenance and repair of old bridges.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the necessity of the anchor lug system in continuously reinforced concrete pavement(CRCP) by comparing longitudinal displacements of CRCPs with and without anchor lugs, and to investigate the effect of horizontal cracking on CRCP performance by measuring the vertical displacements. The measurements before and after the anchor lug section was separated were conducted for 12 days in June, and for 14 days in August after the abrupt displacements according to cutting disappeared, respectively. This short term measurement results showed that when anchor lugs were installed, a daily displacement variation at any location was less than 0.1mm; therefore, longitudinal movements were negligibly small. When there were no anchor lugs, longitudinal displacements mainly occurred near the free end and the displacement variation was small; therefore, an expansion joint system seems to be employed at a CRCP terminus without installing anchor lugs. However, further studies are needed to verify the terminus behavior due to annual temperature changes. The horizontal crack width variation was ignorable and did not affect the vertical displacement of the slab. Therefore, the horizontal crack did not delaminate the slab and did not seem to reduce the structural capacity and performance of CRCP.
