A compression lap splice can be calculated longer than a tension lap splice in high strength concrete according to current design codes. Including effects of transverse reinforcement, a compression splice becomes much longer than a tension splice. Effects of transverse reinforcement and bar size on strength and behavior of compression lap splice, which always exist in actual structures, have been investigated through experimental study of column tests with concrete strength of 40 and 60 MPa. The results of the tests with bar diameters of 22 and 29 mm show that there is no size effect of bar diameter on compression lap splice. Bond strength of small bar diameter may increase. However, large diameters of re-bars are used in compression member and the size effect of re-bars does not have to be considered in compression lap splice. Confined specimens have twice of calculated strengths by current design codes. New design equations for the compression lap splice including the effects of transverse reinforcement are required for practical purpose of ultra-high strength concrete. End bearing is enhanced by transverse reinforcement placed at ends of splice not by transverse reinforcement within splice length. As more transverse reinforcement are placed, the stresses developed by bond linearly increase. The transverse reinforcements at ends of splice a little improve the strength by bond. Because the stresses developed by bond in compression splice with transverse reinforcement are nearly identical to or less than those in tension splice with same transverse reinforcement, strength increment of compression splice is attributed to end bearing only.

Flexural test of reinforced concrete beam with corroded reinforcement were performed to measure the deflection, curvature and cracking moment for various bar diameter and amounts of corrosion. The amounts of corrosion are varied from 0% to 10% by weight and the bar diameters are chosen as 10mm, 13mm, and 19mm. The changes in reinforcement diameter do not affect the flexural behaviors significantly according to this experiment. If the amounts of corrosion is greater than 2%, the deflection and curvature of the beam increased and the cracking moment decreased. It means that the lower amounts of corrosion does not result structural damage in flexural member significantly as in direct tensile test. A modification factor considering an effect of amounts of corrosion is proposed based on the experiment, which can be used to determine the deflection of reinforced concrete beam with corroded reinforcement.
This research is aimed to investigate the influence of the structural parameters on dowel action of reinforcing bars in reinforced concrete members. I~ollowing the previous research, $^{(3.6)}$ a total of forty two specimens were tested to scrutinize the dowel action of reinforcing bars. Concrete cover, reinforcing bar size and bar distance were taken as main test variables for constant compressive strength of concrete. ]+om the test results, the structural behavior of all specimens was almost linear up to failure load. It is seen that dowel force increases as concrete cover increases. Reinforcing bar size and bar distance hardly affects dowel force. It is found that the dowel forces obtained by this experimental research is relatively close to that of regression analysis results and White's equation.

The corrosion of reinforcements embedded in concrete causes some durability problems in reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. The epoxy coated reinforcements are one of the effective and reliable methods to prevent corrosion of reinforcements. However, it has been known that the epoxy coating reduces the bond capacity of reinforcement to concrete. This paper investigates the bond behaviors of epoxy coated reinforcements experimentally using direct pull-out test. Bond behaviors of epoxy coated bars for various reinforcement diameters of 10, 19 and 29mm and thicknesses of cover concrete of 1, 2, 3, and $4.5c/d_b$ (ratio of cover to bar diameter) are examined. Total 66 specimens were manufactured and tested according to the RILEM standard method. As the diameters of the epoxy coated reinforcements increase, the difference of bond strength between epoxy coated reinforcements and uncoated bars also increases. Epoxy coated bars showed more than 85% bond performance compared to those of uncoated bars. A new formular for estimating basic development length of epoxy coated reinforcement based on equilibrium equation is proposed using this experimental result.

The corrosion of reinforcements embedded in concrete causes severe deterioration in reinforced concrete structures. As a countermeasure, epoxy coated reinforcements are used to prevent corrosion of reinforcements. When epoxy coated bars are used, the resistance of corrosion is excellent, but epoxy coating on the bars have a disadvantage of reduction in bond capacity comparing to that of normal bars. Therefore, it is necessary to confirm the bond performance of epoxy coated reinforcements through experimental and analytical methods. Bond behaviors of epoxy coated bars for various diameters of 13 and 19mm and thicknesses of cover concrete of 3 types(ratio of cover to bar diameter) are examined. As the diameters of the epoxy coated bars increase, the difference of bond strength between epoxy coated and uncoated bars also increases and damage patterns showed pull out failure. In addition, finite element analysis was performed based on the bond-slip relationship obtained by direct pullout test and compared with the flexural test results. It is considered that flexural member test is more useful than pullout test for simulating the behavior of actual structure.

Three small scale hollow circular reinforced concrete columns(4.5 aspect ratio) were tested under cyclic lateral load with constant axial load. Diameter of section is 400 mm, hollow diameter is 200 mm. The selected test variable are transverse steel ratio. Volumetric ratio of spirals of all the columns is 0.302~0.604% in the plastic hinge region. It corresponds to 45.9~91.8% of the minimum requirement of confining steel by Korean Bridge Design Specifications, which represent existing columns not designed by the current seismic design specifications or designed by seismic concept. The final objectives of this study are to provide quantitative reference data and tendency for performance or damage assessment based on the performance levels such as cracking, yielding, steel fracture, etc. In this paper, describes mainly failure behavior, strength degradation behaviour, displacement ductility of circular reinforced concrete bridge columns with respect to test variables.

Geopolymer concrete is a new class of construction materials that has emerged as an alternative to ordinary Portland cement concrete to reduce the emission of $CO_2$ in the production of concrete. Many researches have been carried out on material developments of geopolymer concrete, however a few studies have been reported on the structural use of them. This paper presents an experiment on the bond behaviors of reinforcements embedded in fly ash based geopolymer concrete. The development lengths of reinforcement for various compressive strength levels of geopolymer concrete, 20, 30 and 40 MPa, and reinforcement diameters, 10, 16 and 25 mm, are investigated. Total 27 specimens were manufactured and pull-out test according to EN 10080 was applied to measure the bond strength and slips between concrete and reinforcements. As the compressive strength levels of geopolymer concrete increase, the bond strength between geopolymer concrete and reinforcement increase. The bond strengths decrease as the diameters of reinforcements increase, which is similar in normal concrete. Also, an estimation equation for the basic development length of reinforcement embedded in geopolymer concrete is proposed based on the experimental results in this study.
The purposes of this study is to verify the fracture characteristic of steel which is manufactured in Korea, subjected to cyclic loading. This investigation deals with the low cycle fatigue behavior of longitudinal reinforcement in reinforced concrete bridge substructure (piles and columns of piers). Eighty-one specimens of longitudinal reinforcement were tested under axial strain controlled reversed cyclic tests with strain amplitudes. The selected test variables are ratio of tension strain to compression strain, yield stress of longitudinal reinforcement, ratio of diameter of longitudinal steel to clear length of longitudinal steel, size of longitudinal steel and strain amplitudes. Low cycle fatigue behavior and low-cycle fatigue life are investigated and discussed in this paper.
In this paper, an experimental investigation of bond properties between steel fiber reinforced concrete and glass fiber reinforced polymer reinforcements was performed. The experimental variables were diameter of reinforcements, volume fraction of steel fiber, cover thickness and compressive strength of concrete. Bond failure mainly occurred with splitting of concrete cover. Main factor for splitting of concrete is tension force occurred by the displacement difference between reinforcements and concrete. Therefore, in order to prevent the bond failure between reinforcements and concrete, capacity of tensile strength of concrete cover should be upgraded. As a results of test, volume fraction of steel fiber significantly increases the bond strength. Cover thickness changes the failure mode. Diameter of reinforcements also changes the failure mode. Generally, diameter of reinforcement also affects the bond properties but this effect is not significant as volume fraction of fiber. Increase of compressive strength increases the bond strength between concrete and reinforcement because compressive strength of concrete directly affects the tensile strength of concrete.

In general, the large loads which are applied from explosion, impact, earthquake and wind at a short time caused the materials of structures to large deformations, rotations and strains locally. If such phenomena will be analyzed, hydrocodes which can be considered fluid-structure interaction under computational continuum mechanics are inevitably needed. Also, the explosion mechanism is so complicated, it is reasonable that the behaviors of structure are predicted through explosion analyses and experiment at the same time. But, unfortunately, it is true that explosion experiments are limited to huge cost, large experiment facilities and safety problems. Therefore, in this study, it is shown that the results of explosion analyses using the AUTODYN are agreed with those of existing explosion experiments for reinforced concrete slabs within reasonable error limits. And the explosion damage of the same reinforced concrete slab are assessed for quite different reinforcement arrangement spacings, concrete cover depths, and vertical reinforcements. From the explosion analyses, it is known that the more the ratio of slab thickness to reinforcement arrangement spacing is increased, and small-diameter reinforcements are used than large-diameter reinforcements on the same reinforcement ratio, and vertical reinforcements are used, the more the anti-knock capacities are improved.
