The Development of Overhead Crane Simulator Using Open Source Physics Engine (오픈소스 물리엔진을 이용한 천장 크레인 시뮬레이터 개발)

  • Recently, increasing numbers of games and simulators are being implemented by employing the physically-based modeling techniques for better realism. In this paper, we propose the implementation techniques for overhead crane simulator based on ODE, the well-known open source dynamic engine. By comparing the dynamic behavior of the proposed system with a commercial engine based simulator, the physical plausibility and the effectiveness of the ODE based OHC simulator are verified. We expect the proposed the OHC simulator can be successfully utilized for virtual training in various educational institutes.

  • In this study, structural optimum design was applied to the girder of magnet over head crane. The optimization was carried out using ANSYS Code for the deadweight of girder, especially focused on the thickness of its upper, lower, side and reinforced plates. The weight could be reduced up to around 15% with constraints of its deformation, stress, natural frequency and buckling strength. The structural safety was also verified by the buckling analysis of its panel structure. It might be thought to be very useful to design the conventional structures for the weight save through the structural optimization. Also this paper grasped the sensitivity influenced the design variables upon the objective function and the state variables.

  • The correlation between the object function and the design parameter is shown on this paper by using the characteristic function for the mixed result of the structural analysis, the buckling analysis and the table of orthogonal array according to the original overhead crane's dimensional change. About the above two functions, the effectiveness of design change according to the change of design parameters could be estimated. Also, the overhead crane's weight is reduced up to 10.55 percent maintaining the structural stability according to the thickness of plate.

  • An overhead crane system which transports an object by girder motion, trolley motion, and hoist motion becomes a nonlinear system because the length of a rope changes. To develope the position control algorithm for the nonlinear crane systems, we apply a nonlinear optimal control method which uses forward and backward difference methods and obtain optimal inputs. This method is suitable for the overhead crane system which is characterized by the differential equation of higher degree and swing motion. From the results of computer simulation, it is founded that the position of the overhead crane system is controlled, and the swing of the object is suppressed.

  • An overhead crane system consists of trolley, girder, rope, object, trolley motor, girder motor, and hoist motor. An analytic model which derived from the modelling of the overhead crane system is nonlinear model which includes the swing and the twist angle of the object. this model consists of the equation of motion for motors and object. If the swing angle and the acceleration of Z for the object are small, this model becomes a simple nonlinear model which doesn't include the swing and the twist angle of the object. From the results of computer simulation, the characteristics of an actual overhead crane system could be predicted by the simple nonlinear model.

  • A search algorithm for the collision free, time optimal transport path of overhead cranes has been proposed in this paper. The map for the working environment of overhead cranes was constructed in the form of three dimensional grid. The obstacle occupied region and unoccupied region of the map has been represented using the octree model. The best-first search method with a suitable estimation function was applied to select the knot points on the collision free transport path to the octree model. The optimization technique, minimizing the travel time required for transporting objects to the goal while subjected to the dynamic constraints of the crane system, was developed to find the smooth time optimal path in the form of cubic spline functions which interpolate the selected knot points. Several simulation results showed that the selected estimation function worked effectively insearching the knot points on the collision free transport path and that the resulting transport path was time optimal path while satisfying the dynamic constraints of the crane system.

  • This paper presents results of input shaping to industrial cranes. A brief theoretical background for input shaping is described. Several examples of input shaping application to sway regulation for industrial cranes are presented. The presented results show that input shaping is very useful for industrial cranes.
