Uses and Gratifications of TV Home-shopping Channels (TV홈쇼핑 채널의 이용과 충족연구)

  • This study takes a uses and gratification theory based approach to identifying the relation between TV home-shopping channel use motivation and purchase intention. The results are summarized as follows. First, in respect of TV home-shopping channel use motivation, the analysis results reveal three factors: convenience, information seeking, and entertainment. Among these, the factor of convenience was the first in the order of importance. Secondly, 1)It is found that use motivation also has some limited influence on purchase intention. 2)Selectivity and involvement degree, the sub-categories of audience activity, are found to be the variables with the highest prediction ability, suggesting a need to give a particular attention to them. 3)In addition, viewing amount, a variable of use behavior, is shown to have a significant influence on purchase intention. The followings are the implications of the study results. First, marketing strategies that enable maximization of shopping convenience are required. Second, there is a need to approach the delivery of TV home-shopping contents as a kind of broadcasting contents on their own rather than merely a medium for selling goods.

Correlation between Channel-Flow Test Results and Rheological Properties of Freshly Mixed Mortar (굳지 않은 모르타르의 채널 플로와 레올로지 특성의 상관관계)

  • The workability of mortar determines its construction performance in a structure showing its designed resistance to external loads. Measuring the rheological properties of mortar is one way of quantifying its workability, but its field-applications are limited due to economical and spatial issues. The robustness of the slump flow test allows its use for evaluating the workability of mortar, even though it is a rather qualitative test method. This paper proposes a channel flow test and develops a correlation between its result and the rheological properties of mortar. The volume-of-fluid simulation for the channel flow test was accomplished, and a numerical database for the correlation was composed. A correlation model to estimate the rheological properties of mortar using the results of the channel flow test as inputs is proposed.

Performance Evaluation of Opportunistic Incremental Relaying Systems by using Partial and Full Channel Information in Rayleigh Fading Channels (레일레이 페이딩 채널에서 부분 및 전체 채널 정보를 이용하는 기회전송 증가 릴레이 시스템의 성능)

  • Recently, the opportunistic incremental relaying systems have been studied to improve the system performance effectively in wireless fading channel. Most of the performance analysis of the system includes a source-destination direct link. And there are few analysis which consider source-relay-destination indirect paths only. Therefore this paper proposes a transmission protocol which relays the source information using the selected relay from the partial channel information at the first stage in an opportunistic incremental relaying system. If the transmission fails, the selected best relay from the full channel information retransmits the information to the destination incrementally. The performance of the proposed system is derived analytically and verified from Monte Carlo simulation. The derived results can be applied to the system design and the performance estimation of the mobile systems and the bidirectional TV broadcasting systems which adapt an opportunistic incremental relaying system.

Cross Flow Indirect Evaporative Cooler Made of a Plastic Film/Paper Composite (플라스틱 필름/종이 복합 재질의 직교류 간접증발소자)

  • Indirect evaporative cooling, which utilizes a cooling effect obtained by the evaporation of water, is energy-effective compared to the conventional vapor compression method. It is also eco-friendly, due to the non-usage of CFC refrigerant. In this study, three indirect evaporative cooler samples of the cross flow type(size: $300mm{\times}300mm{\times}300mm$, channel pitch: $5mm{\times}5mm$, $5mm{\times}7mm$, $7mm{\times}7mm$) were made using plastic/paper composites. Tests were conducted to measure indirect evaporative efficiencies and pressure drops. Results showed that the efficiency was the highest for the $5mm{\times}5mm$ sample, owing to the largest surface area. The saved electrical energy was also the greatest for that sample. The pressure drop of the wet channel was larger than that of the dry channel as expected. A theoretical model was proposed, which underestimated both the indirect evaporation efficiency and the pressure drop.

Design of Receiver Architecture for HomePNA 2.0 Modem (HomePNA 2.0 모뎀 수신부 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose the architecture of modem receiver to fabricate HomePNA 2.0 chip. HomePNA suffers from inferior channel because of bridge tap, the effect of amateur HAM band and so on. To transfer data over such channel, HomePNA 2.0 uses training sequence to equalize channel and uses FD-QAM optionally as modulation method. So modem receiver demodulate QAM based signal and needs optimum architecture that fully uses these transmission feature. As a result of research, we define 2 mode function of modem receiver depending on TX/RX state. In this paper, particularly, we show the algorithm of equalizer, carrier phase recovery and frame synchromzationblock and propose architecture that improve the performance of channel equalization and is stable in operation. In the end, we estimate the performance of proposed HomePNA2.0 modem receiver over HomePNA TEST LOOP using SPW program.

Effects of Radio Interference from Digital Phase Modulation(PSK) System on Analog Frequency Modulation(FM) System (아나로그 주파수변조(FM) 무선통신 시스템에 미치는 디지탈 위상변조(PSK) 무선통신 시스템의 간섭 영향)

  • This paper has investigated and discussed the effects of multiple PSK signals upon an wideband FM signal in an intersystem interference environment between analog and digital radios. Using the derived approximate equation for the output haseband interference noise, the signal-to-interference noise power ratio(SNR) in the top channel baseband signal has been numerically calculated. The results are plotted in graphs as the functions of carrier-to-noise ratio(CNR), carrier-to interfer power ratio(CIR), and normalized carrier separation. From the results in this paper, one can know some optimu, or suitable, operating conditions(frequency allocation, bandwidth, and power, etc.) for an FM channel in the intersystemn interferences from digital PSK channels.

A Study of Stability Evaluation Method Using EEG (뇌파 비교를 통한 안정 상태평가에 관한 연구)

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for human sensibility evaluation using 4-channel EEG signals of the prefrontal and the parietal lobes. The algorithm uses an artificial neural network and the multiple templates. The linear prediction coefficients are used as the feature parameters of human sensibility. Comfortableness and temperature/humidity are evaluated. Many conventional researches have emphasized that a wave of left prefrontal lobe is activated in case of positive sensibility and that of right prefrontal lobe is activated in case of negative sensibility. So the power ratio of n wave is obtained from for computation and the results are compared. The results of the comfortableness evaluation for temperature and humidity showed that the outputs of the proposed algorithm coincided with corresponding sensibilities depending on the task of the temperature and the humidity. The conventional method using a wave is hardly related with comfortableness. And it is also observed that the uncomfortable state due to the high temperature and humidity can be easily changed to the comfortable state by small drop of the temperature and the humidity.

Pre-Coding Method for Underwater Digital Communications in a Multipath Channel (다중 전달 경로 채널에서의 수중 디지털 통신을 위한 선 처리 기법)

  • Signals in an underwater channel get distorted by multipath propagation. In this paper, pre-coding method is suggested which helps comprehending the signals with minimum equalization. The signals are transformed based on the knowledge of the impulse response of the channel. Proposed pre-coding method is tested by simulations based on the ray theory and through water tank experiments. In weak multipath environment, in case of an SNR of about 20 dB, BER is $10^{-3}{\sim}10^{-4}$, while in strong multipath environment, similar BER is achieved with SNR of about 30 dB. In order for the pre-coding method to be used for underwater vehicles, channel prediction method utilizing the waveguide invariant is suggested and tested.

  • International Telecommunication Union(ITU), recommended a propagation prediction models that can be applied to a various propagation environments that many services have been established in the field of broadcasting and telecommunications using ITU-R. Each propagation prediction models are revised with the complement procedures of an expected difference of channel environment and prepared for a standard of a propagation prediction. In this research, it is possible to realized a practical propagation prediction in each transmitting station for a broadcasting environments of ITU-R Rec. P.1546-3 model, so called the point-to-area, using supplementary parameters of the transmitting station specification.

Robust Backward Adaptive Pitch Prediction for Tree Coding (트리 코팅에서 전송에러에 강한 역방향 적응 피치 예측)

  • The pitch predictor is one of the most important part for the robust tree coder. The hybrid backward pitch adapation which is a combination of a block adaptation and a recursive adaptation is used for the pitch predictor. In order to improve the error performance and track the pitch period change of the input speech, it is proposed to smooth the input of the pitch predictor. The smoother with three taps can have fixed coefficients or variable coefficients depending on the estimated autocorrelation function of the output of the pitch synthesizer. The inclusion of a variable smoother can track the pitch period change within a block and reduce the effect of channel errors.
