  • Eighty-eight 5-year-old subjects were tested by the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking, and randomly assigned to experimental(n=44) or control(n=44) groups. Developed in collaboration with kindergarten teachers, physical activity projects were based on themes from "life and health" and "life as expression" of the kindergarten curriculum. The resulting program consisting of 24 activities was applied to the experimental group for 24 sessions. Data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, and repeated measures ANOVA. Effectiveness of the physical activity program for enhancing creativity was shown by a significant increase in mean creativity scores of the experimental group and in the sub-scores of fluency, originality, abstraction of title, elaboration, and resistance to an impetuous ending.

Correlation among problem solving ability, critical thinking disposition, creativity and nursing process competence was analyzed by pearson correlation coefficient. There was a statistically significant difference in problem solving with the reason for application, major satisfaction. There was a significant positive correlation between problem solving ability, critical thinking disposition, creativity and self efficacy. Nursing process competence was't a significant between problem solving ability, critical thinking disposition, creativity and self efficacy. These findings show that there is a need to develop strategies to improve self efficacy and nursing process competence for student nurses.

  • In this paper, the activities for scientifically-gifted high school students in the 2006 International Young Physicists' Tournament were analyzed, from the perspective of the social aspects of creativity. To understand this, the process by which the activities were similar to the system model of creativity developed by Csikszen-tmihalyi were analyzed. Our aim was to elicit the educational implications of cooperative science problem solving skills and to discuss the results from their social perspective. It was found that participants interacted consistently with peers, teachers, and the culture that was developed during the course of the tournament. This was found to be very similar to the way in which novel knowledge in the system model of creativity is produced. In the tournament, the juries' assessment was based on students' presentations, discussions, and reviews. This was also very similar to how novel knowledge in the model is selected. Solving problems cooperatively and evaluating the results through group discussion are well reflected the social aspects of creativity. Due to the fact that such tournaments for scientifically-gifted elementary students are rapidly increasing in popularity, such activities will increasingly become more important. It is necessary, therefore, to study the social aspects of creativity for the gifted in elementary and middle school.

  • This study investigated the effects of the extension activity with fifty famous paintings on the improvement of young children's creativity and emotional intelligence. A total of thirty-one preschoolers participated in the study. There were a total of 15 preschoolers in the experimental group and 16 preschoolers in the comparison group. The measuring device of creativity was the Figural Tests of Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT:Firural). And the measuring tool of emotional intelligence was the 'Emotional Intelligence Evaluation Tool for a Child by Teacher's Composer' developed by Younja Lee, Jongsook Lee, and Eunsu Shin (2000). To improve the accuracy of the experimental results from the post-test, a covariance analysis (ANCOVA) was conducted with the pre-test scores as covariate and the post-test scores as dependent variables. The statistical work with collected data was carried out by using PASW 18.0. The experimental group which participated in the extension activity with famous paintings showed improvement in the subordinate elements of creativity such as fluency, originality and abstraction of titles. Between the experimental group and comparison group, there was a meaningful difference statistically. The experimental group was also positively affected on all the subordinate elements of emotional intelligence such as awareness and expression of emotions, improvement of thinking by emotions, using ability of emotional knowledge, and control ability as the reflection of emotions. Through the activity, children became to respect the opinions of other friends.
