  • In the past, markets were taken over by the firms which could maintain their competitive advantage through economies of scale and associated reductions in costs and prices. However, it has been changed to a new time that companies can secure their competitiveness through continuos improvements and customer orientations. Patent holders can claim protection against any infringer of their patents. Thus, in the future, firms' competitiveness will be decided by patents and intellectual property rights. How can strategic patents can be obtained and secured? The purpose of this article is to provide a couple of suggestions that can help companies secure strategic patents and build their competitive advantages. Until now, Korean companies have been interested only in the quantity of patents, not the quality of patents. In addition, from the beginning, they could not build distinctive strategic positions to secure future valuable technologies. In this article, we provided a couple of suggestions for strategic patent identification processes. First, strategic patents should be identified and created based on the company's vision. Second, the company should create technology maps through investigating previous R&D activities and patented technology information before stating its own R&D activities.

The aim of this study is to specify and conceptualize characteristics of entrepreneurial gift from systematic empirical investigation. We operationalized the entrepreneurial gift as students participating in 'intellectual property based future creative entrepreneurs' administered by Korean patent office, and compared characteristics of the entrepreneurial gift with those of the gifted students in invention. A total 226 middle and high school students selected as the gifted students in invention, intention scholars, or future creative entrepreneurs by Korean patent office participated in this survey. The survey was designed to measure major adolescent areas such as psychological, intellectual, educational, vocational areas, life purpose and its perception area, innovation-related area, invention-related area, and personal and environmental information. The result showed that entrepreneurial gift has higher score in entrepreneurial potential, in addition to the characteristics that the talented students in invention has. Entrepreneurial gift has similar characteristics in the area of invention-related and environmental conditions, while they showed higher ability in terms of invention-related area and intellectual area. Implications, limitation, and future research direction were discussed.

  • Daejeon City has strived to support the SMEs to innovate technologies based on the capabilities of research and development of the Daedeok Innopolis. It is widely known that technological innovation is the key strategy of Small medium enterprises(SME) to survive and succeed in a market. This study aims to analyze the type and determinants of SME technological innovation in Daejeon. Even though most of firms are the small enterprises which employ less than 10 workers in Daejeon, the number of technology-oriented company per capita in Daejeon is highest in South Korea. The type of technological innovation is divided between product innovation and process innovation. The literature insists that technology-oriented small firm tends to implement product innovation rather than process innovation. SMEs in Daejeon also provided more output from product innovation than process innovation. The empirical analysis provided the results that the determinants of SME's technological innovation depends on its type. The scale of firm, R&D investment, and R&D employees positively influence product innovation of SMEs in Daejeon. However, the impact of R&D employees is not significant on innovating the existing product. Process innovation is positively affected by R&D investment and firm age. The study provides the policy implications to business supporting programs of Daejeon government. The business supporting policy of Daejeon government should focus on supporting each type of technological innovation to promote technological innovation by SME and consider strategies that focus on R&D investment and manpower support.

  • The recent experience about self-employment shows three main trends: first, its share out of the total workers has steadily increased, recording 37.6% in 2001, implying its prevalence and importance; second, its share out of male workers has caught up female workers', implying its importance to males as well as females; and finally, during the recent Economic Crisis when there was mass layoff and large scale bankruptcy, its share rapidly increased, reflecting its role of a buffer to economic fluctuation. However, there have been few studies on self-employment, mainly focusing on what makes someone choose it as an alternative to being employed. This study analyzes the determinants of the duration to terminate self-employment, by applying the proportional hazard model to the Korea Labor and Income Panel Survey(KLIPS) by the Korea Labor Institute. The KLIPS started the first wave in 1998 with the 5,000 household sample (and about 12,000 individual sample of household members aged 15 and more). In this study, the first four waves are used for analysis. The average duration of 5,357 spells of self-employment is 130 months. It shows slight difference between males(124 months) and females(138 months) while it widely ranges over industries (296 months for agriculture industry while 50 months for restaurant and hotel industry). Estimates of the proportional hazard model of the self-employment duration show that females are more likely to terminate self-employment while it is not statistically significant. The effect of age at starting self-employment on the hazard shows the inverse V-shape, which implies that, until a certain age(47 years), the hazard become higher as aging while, since then, it become lower as aging. The level of education has a positive effect on the hazard, implying that more education is related to the higher probability to be employed. The measures of economic performances, annual sales and earnings, are positively related to continuing self-employment while hardship at the start of self-employment measured by several ways has a negative effect. Training before opening business has a positive effect on keeping on self-employment and its effects are different over its providers, significantly positive for public providers while insignificant for private providers. More and further research on self-employment is urgent in the rapidly ageing society. To help workers to be self-employed, more public assistance is necessary for education, training, financing, marketing, management, and human resource management in order to make the olders consider self-employment as a good alternative rather than an inevitable one.

Design and embodied action power and Control Unit in cylinder form of magnet roof object firstly. Yielded service area about special quality of probe of roof object cylinder style and treatment area dimension and distance of treatment pulse secondly. Embody pulse forming course energy value by Probe's form by third, could embody treatment pulse by disease. Specially, through a special quality experiment, saved Damping pulse form and treatment pulse form etc. variously. Lately, embodied this to aid a little in disease treatment that follow that there is no invasion that there is no stimulation by medicine development. Go amplitude treatment pulse (traditional magneto-therapy of greatly great that strong) does curative effect greatest at short time and becomes thought that demand is magnified greatly at the future in this research.
