  • This study was performed to test the combustive properties of Pinus rigida plates treated with piperazinomethyl-bisphosphonic acid (PIPEABP), methylpiperazinomethyl-bis-phosphonic acid (MPIPEABP), and N,N-dimethylethylenediaminomethyl- bis-phosphonic acid (MDEDAP). Pinus rigida specimens were painted in three times with 15 wt% alkylenediaminoalkyl- bis-phosphonic acid solutions at the room temperature. After drying specimen treated with chemicals, combustive properties were examined by the cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). As a result, the combustion-retardation properties were increased by due to the treated alkylenediaminoalkyl-bis-phosphonic acid solutios in the virgin Pinus rigida. Especially, the specimens treated with chemicals showed both the later time to ignition (TTI) (148-116 s) and longer time to flameout (Tf) (633-529 s) than those of virgin plate by reducing the burnig rate. Compared with virgin pinus rigida plate, the specimens treated with the alkylenediaminoalkyl-bis-phosphonic acids showed partially low combustive properties. However the specimens treated with PIPEABP showed both the higher peak heat release rate (PHRR) (187.56 $kW/m^2$) and higher total heat release rate (THRR) (75.7 $MJ/m^2$) than those of virgin plate.

  • The objective of this study was to determine the response of rapeseed (Brassica napus) to different planting date in the spring and varieties on growth and flowering characteristics. Eight rapeseed varieties were sowed at 10 day interval from 1st to 31th of March at Muan and Jeju in Korea. Significant planting dates and rapeseed varieties effects for growth, start of flowering and duration. As the planting date was being delayed, plant length and flower number were decreased, but branch number was increased. And, start of flowering date was retarded and flowering duration decreased with later planting date. Days from planting to flowering was shortened as seeding date was delayed and shortening degree was similar between experimental locations, Muan and Jeju. The days to flowering for rapeseed about 73~94 days for 1st March and then decreased to 57~71 days for the 31th March of planting date. 'Tammiyuchae' and 'Mokpo 111' seeded on each planting date come into blossom more earlier about 10 days as compared to 'Tamlayuchae' and 'Naehanyuchae'. The duration of flowering for the B. napus varieties was shortened as planting date was delayed. The results revealed that flowering characteristics of rapeseed can be greatly enhanced by planting as early as possible, and early flowering varieties i.e. 'Tammiyuchae' and 'Spring' were the most suitable varieties among the tested varieties for planting in the spring.

  • Experiments on the combustion characteristics of untreated wood specimens and those treated with four types of silicone compounds were carried out using a cone calorimeter according to the ISO 5660-1 standard. 3-Aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS), 3-(2-aminoethylamino) propylmethyldimethoxysilane (AEAPMDMS), and 3-(2-aminoethylamino) propyltrimethoxysilane (AEAPTMS) were used as the silane compounds. The flame retardants were synthesized with sodium silicate and amino silane compounds. The measured time to ignition after combustion at an external heat flux of $50kW/m^2$ was 9 s to 11 s. Time to ignition was marked with a delayed value in the 3 s to 5 s range. The peak heat release rate ($HRR_{peak}$) was reduced by 5 to 20% compared with the uncoated specimen, and AEAPMDMS showed the highest initial fire risk. The total heat release (THR) was decreased by 1 to 22%. Compared to the untreated specimen, the fire performance index (FPI) of the specimens coated with silicone sol compounds increased by 1.5 to 2.2 fold. The fire growth index (FGI) of the AEAPMDMS specimen was increased by 30% and the others were decreased by 93 to 94%. Therefore, the fire risk of wood coated with silicone compounds was improved in terms of the heat risk properties.

  • A field experiment was conducted to find out the effect level of nitrogen fertilization on the yield and quality of hop (Hallertau variety) emphasis given to ${\alpha}$-acid content. Nitrogen was applied by the rates of 0, 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36kg per 10a. Results were summarized as follows. 1. Stages of cone-hair developing and coneripening were delayed with increment of nitrogen applied. Number of nodes and length of vine increased with nitrogen applid by up to 24kg N/10a. 2. Yield was the highest in the 24kg N/10a plot and cone weight had high significant correlations with yield without regard to the years of growth. No.of flower per side blanch and weight of 100 cones had a significant correlation with yield in the four-year old and five-year old Hop plants. 3. Nutrient content in Hop plants was in the order of CaO, total nitrogen, $K_2O$, MgO and $P_2O_5$. Content of total nitrogen, CaO and MgO was high in leaves while that of $P_2O_5$ and $K_2O$ was high in cone. Nitrogen, phosphorus and magnesium increased with increment of nitrogen fetilized while potassium and calcium decreased. 4. As for the distribution of nutrients in cone developing stage $SiO_2$ content was higher in lower part than in the upper part while $P_2O_5$ contetn was higher in upper part than in lower part of the plant. And content of nitrogen and potassium was higher in middle height than in upper and lower part. 5. The optimum levels of nitrogen application were 19.3kg for 2 years, 24.3kg for 3-year, 27.9kg for 4 years and 31.8kg/10a for 5-year old Hop, respectively. 6. Nitrogen uptake in cone showed a positive correlation with the content of ${\alpha}$-acid and ${\beta}$-acid in cone.
