  • A three-dimensional, finite difference, numerical model with free surface was developed on ${\sigma}$-coordinate. A semi-implicit numerical scheme in time has been adopted for computational efficiency. The scheme is essentially independent of the stringent stability criteria (CFL condition) for explicit schemes of external surface gravity wave. Implicit algorithm was applied for vertical shear stress, Coriolis force and pressure gradient terms. The reliability of the model with vertically variable grid system was checked by the comparison of simulation results with analytic solution of wind-driven currents in a one-dimensional channel. Sensitivity analysis of differencing parameters was carried out by applying the model to the calculation of wind-driven currents in a square lake.

  • This paper presents a method of PRI do-interleaving for LASER pulse signals. When the PRI of LASER pulse is periodically changed, the first deviation and the second deviation of TOA is used to calculate the PRI pattern of input LASER signals of receiver. If the standard deviation of the first difference of TOA is less than 5% of the average of the first difference of TOA, the PRI pattern of LASER signal is fixed or jittered type. If the standard deviation is larger than 5% of the average, those are triangular PRI patterns or sawtooth PRI patterns.

  • This is a comparative study on applications of finite analytic method (FAM) and finite difference method (FDM) to rectangular smalI basin circulation. To do such a comparison, the circulation model in small rectangular basin is established using FAM and the nurmerical solution from the FAM model is compared with that from the FDM model. As the grid size approaches Von Neumann stablity condition, the convergence time to steady state increases in Askren's model, but does not increase in finite analytic model. Especially in the FAM model, the numerical solution converges stably even in the grid size range beyond the stablity condition whereas that diverges in the FDM model. In the case of large basin Reynolds number, it is found that steady state solution is obtained in the FAM model with smaller calculating steps than those of in the FDM model.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel equal-gain differential precoding scheme utilizing temporal correlation of channels. The conventional differential precoding schemes only quantize a part of channel space not the whole channel space, so that it virtually increases codebook size which enhances the system capacity. But the conventional differential schemes increase peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) without preserving equal-gain transmission. This paper proposes the design method of equal-gain differential precoding scheme and analyzes the performances of the proposed equal-gain precoding scheme. Monte-Carlo simulations verify that the proposed scheme has an advantage of 1dB to obtain the same system capacity with the same amount of feedback information compared with the conventional LTE schemes, with showing very low PAPR property.

  • In this paper, the numerical wave propagation properties of the finite difference-time domain(FD-TD) method is investigated as a discrete model describing electromagnetic(EM) wave propagation phenomena. The leap-frog approximation of Maxwell's curl equations in time-space simulates EM wave propagation in terms of the numerical characteristic and the domain of dependence. A geometrical interpretation of the FD-TD numerical procedure is presented. The numerical dispersion error due to the leap-frog approximation and its dependence on the stability factor are illustrated. The FD-TD method using the leap-frog approximation is inherently a descriptive model. Thus, not only any physical picture about EM wave propagation phenomena can be drawn through this model, but also physical or engineering parameters in the frequency domain can be extracted from descriptive results. E-plane filter characteristics in the WR-28 rectangular waveguide and reflection property of an inductive iris in the WR-90 rectangluar waveguide extracted from simulation of the FD-TD model is included.

  • In this study, the applicability of finite analytic method (FAM) is studied by selecting linearized-Burgers equation and Burgers equation which have convective and diffusive behaviors as the model equation of Navier-Stokes equations and by comparing numerical solution of finite difference method (FDM) and finite analytic method. The results are as follows. It is shown that the convergence of FAM for steady-state analytic solution of linearized-Burgers equation and Burgers equation is better than that of FDM under the same criteria. Also the accuracy of FAM for transient solution of Burgers equation is excellent. Especially, it is shown that oscillation phenomenon due to dispersion errors which occur according to the choice of grid size in FDM does not occur in FAM at all. So, it can be thought that FAM is numerically very stable scheme, which is free from dispersion errors.

  • Due to the great complexity of the physical phenomena involved in most ultrasonic nondestructive testing, the numerical method is effective in many cases of their theoretical modeling. A brief overview is provided in this paper of the numerical methods used in modeling ultrasonic nondestructive testing, with an emphasis on the finite difference and the finite element methods. The procedures of execution, special considerations required, and some previous research results of the finite difference and the finite element methods are presented, with a rather extensive list of work reported in the literature. These numerical modeling techniques for ultrasonic nondestructive testing are expected to be more reliable and more convenient, as a result of the continuing technological development of computers.

  • Dormant rice seeds were treated with different levels of ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS) and sown directely on the well managed seed beds and the ontogenetically different tillers of $_{x}\textrm{M}_1 plants were marked as they are developed. The biological effects of $_{x}\textrm{M}_1 plant and mutation frequency of $_{x}\textrm{M}_2 were investigated. utation frequency evaluated with tiller groups and $_{x}\textrm{M}_1 sterility, differs from the results reported with radiation treatment. Hence, selection of $_{x}\textrm{M}_1 panicle of primary or secondary tillers could be recommended for increase mutation frequency in $_{x}\textrm{M}_2 generation.

  • Automatic smoke detection systems using a surveillance camera requires a reliable smoke detection method. When an image sequence is captured from smoke spreading over in the air, not only has each smoke image frame a special texture, called static texture, but the difference between two smoke image frames also has a peculiar texture, called dynamic texture. Even though an object has a static texture similar to that of the smoke, its dynamic texture cannot be similar to that of the smoke if its movement differs from the diffraction action of the smoke. This paper presents a reliable smoke detection method using these two textures. The proposed method first detects change regions using accumulated frame difference, and then picks out smoke regions using Haralick features extracted from two textures.

  • In the first part of this study, the moving least squares finite difference method for solving solid mechanics problems was formulated. This second part verified the accuracy, robustness and effectiveness of the developed method through several numerical examples. It was shown that the method gives excellent convergence rate for elasticity problem. The solution process of elastic crack problems showed the easiness in discontinuity modeling and demonstrates the accuracy and efficiency in finding singular stress solution based on adaptive node distribution. The applicability to the engineering problem with abrupt change in displacement and stresses gradient fields is verified through a localization band problem. The developed method is expected to be extended to the various special engineering problems.
