  • In order to use viscoelastic materials efficiently for noise and vibration control, or th qualify newly developed materials, knowledge of the Young' s modulus and loss factor is essemtial. These material properties, the so-called complex Young' s modulus, are frequently treated as dynamic charicteristics because of their dependence upon the frequency. Many techniques have been developed and verified for measuring complex Young' s modulus of viscoelastic materials. Among them, the impedance method is preferable in order to obtain the frequency information in detail. In this method, a cylindrical or prismatic specimen is excited into longitudinal harmonic vibration at one end, the other being fixed, and the resulting force is measured at the driving or fixed end. The amplitude ratio of the two signals and phase angle between them are then used to compute the material properties using various mathematical models. In this paper, the impedance method is investigated theoretically and experimentally. A way to determine the specimen geometry which is most appropriate for the identification of complex Young' s modulus using the lumped mass model is presented and discussed. Then experimental results supporting the theoretical predictions are presented.

  • 암반터널굴착을 위한 발파시 이로 인한 암반의 최종 손상영역을 예측하는 것은 터널의 안전성을 위해 매우 중요하다. 그러나 복잡한 발파거동은 손상영역을 적절히 예측하는데 상당한 어려움이 있다. 이러한 어려움을 효과적으로 해결하기 위해 발파하중을 응력파와 가스압으로 분리한 많은 연구가 진행되었다. 응력파는 발파공 주위에 분쇄한(crushing annulus)과 파쇄균열대(fracture zone)를 형성시키며, 상당시간 지속되는 준정적인 가스는 파쇄균열대의 닫힌 균열내부에 침투하여 균열을 다시 진행시키는 역할을 하게 된다. 즉, 가스압은 최종적으로 암반에 손상을 가하는데 기여를 한다. 따라서 본 논문은 이러한 가스압에 의해 생성되는 균열의 최종 진행 길이를 예측함으로써 발파로 인한 최종 손상영역을 간단하게 예측할 수 있는 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 무한 탄성평면에서 발파공 주위에 대칭으로 형성되는 균열을 모델로 사용하였다. 이 모델에서 균열이 진행할 수 있는 조건과 가스의 질량이 일정하다는 두가지 조건을 사용하였다. 그 결과 응력집중계수는 균열이 진행할수록 감소하여 최종균열의 길이를 예측할 수 있었고, 그와 동시에 발파공에 작용하는 압력도 감소하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

Analysis of the Motion of a Flexible Beam Fixed on a Moving Cart and Carrying a Concentrated Mass (이동 대차 위에 고정되고 집중질량을 갖는 유연보의 운동해석)

  • In this paper, the equations of motion of a Bernoulli-Euler cantilever beam fixed on a moving cart and carrying a lumped mass concentrated at an arbitrary position along the beam is derived. The motion of the beam-mass-cart system is analyzed through unconstrained modal analysis, and a unified characteristic equation for calculating the natural frequencies of the system is obtained. The changes of natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes with respect to the changes in mass ratios of the system and to the concentrated position of the lumped mass are investigated with the frequency equation, which can be generally applied to this kind of systems. The exact and assumed-mode solutions including the dynamics of the base cart are obtained, and the open-loop responses of the system by arbitrarily designed forcing function are given by numerical simulations. The results match well with physical phenomena even at the extreme cases where the concentrated mass is attached to the bottom and to the top of the beam.

Structual Stability Analysis According to the Lumped Mass of High Speed Vehicles in Underwater (집중질량 변화에 따른 수중 고속 운동체의 구조 안정성 해석)

  • In this paper, the effect of the position and size of a lumped mass on the structural stability of a high speed underwater vehicle is presented. For simplicity, a real vehicle was modeled as a follower force subjected beam that was resting on an elastic foundation, and the lumped mass effect was simplified as an elastic intermediate support. The stability of the simplified model was numerically analyzed based on the Finite element method (FEM). This numerical simulation revealed that flutter type instability or divergence type instability occurs, depending on the position and stiffness of the elastic intermediate support, which implies that the instability of the real model is affected by the position and size of the lumped mass.

  • By virtue of an application of the receptance method, simplified formulae to calculate natural frequencies of stiffened plates having a resiliently mounted or concentrated mass are obtained. Some numerical results are compared with those based on Lagrange's equation of motion and with experimental results. For the problem formulation the stiffened plate is reduced to an equivalent orthotropic plate, a resiliently mounted mass to a spring-mass system, and mode shapes of the plate are assumed with comparison functions consisting of Euler beam functions. The proposed formulae give results in good conformity to both numerical results based on Lagrange's equation of motion and experimental results for in-phase modes of the coupled system. For out-of-phase modes the conformity is assured only in case that the natural frequency of the attached system is less than a half of that the stiffened plate. It is also found that a resiliently mounted mass having its own natural frequency of about two or more times that of the stiffened plate can be reduced to a concentrated mass with assurance of a few percent error in the frequency.

Modeling of Crosstalk Behaviors in Thermal Inkjet Print Heads (열 잉크젯 프린트헤드의 채널간 간섭현상의 모델링)

  • This paper presents a lumped model to predict crosstalk characteristics of thermally driven inkjet print heads. Using the lumped R-C model, heating characteristics of the head are predicted to be in agreement with IR temperature measurements. The inter-channel crosstalk is simulated using the lumped R-L network. The values of viscous flow resistance, R and flow inertance, L of connecting channels are adjusted to accord with the 3-D numerical simulation results of three adjacent jets. The crosstalk behaviors of a back shooter head as well as a top shooter head have been investigated. Predictions of the proposed lumped model on the meniscus oscillations are consistent with numerical simulation results. Comparison of the lumped model with experimental results identifies that abnormal two-drop ejection phenomena are related to the increased meniscus oscillations because of the more severe crosstalk effects at higher printing speeds. The degree of crosstalk has been quantified using cross-correlations between neighboring channels and a critical channel dimension for acceptable crosstalk has been proposed and validated with the numerical simulations. Our model can be used as a design tool for a better design of thermal inkjet print heads to minimize crosstalk effects.

Analysis of Impulse Wave Characteristics Generated by Landslide Models with Various Mass Ratio : Focus on Wave Amplitude (질량비 변화에 따른 산사태 모형으로 인해 생성되는 충격파의 특성분석 : 파진폭을 중심으로)

  • Impulse waves generated by landslides near water bodies can lead to fatal damage to human life and surrounding infrastructure. These impulse waves are generally called landslide-impulsed waves and occur without being limited to a specific area. Recently, localized torrential rains have frequently occurred due to the influence of abnormal weather, both the frequency and scale of landslides occurring in Korea are increasing. Therefore, in this study, the experiments were conducted according to the mass ratio of the landslide models, and among the characteristics of the generated landslide-impulse waves. And the wave amplitude was observed and analyzed. In this study, a total of 75 experiments were conducted by repeating the experiment 5 times for 15 cases with mass ratios of 5 landslide models and 3 types of slope angles. As a result of experiments with different mass ratios of landslide models, if the landslides have the same initial energy, the size of the landslide-impulse waves generated by mixing granular and block forms is higher than the size of the landslide-impulse waves generated by pure granular and block landslides. It is analyzed that the size may be larger.

  • 미세입자는 오염된 도심지역 분진수의 90~99%에 이르는 높은 비율을 보이고 있고, 폐 깊숙이 침투하여 폐암을 비롯한 폐질환을 일으킬 수 있다. 더욱이 동일 질량의 분진인 경우 입자의 크기가 감소함에 따라 미세 입자의 표면적은 급증하기 때문에 As, Cr(Ⅵ), Cd등과 같은 발암 중금속을 쉽게 흡착하여 미세 입자가 인체에 미치는 영향은 거대입자에 비하여 매우 크다. 따라서 미국은 1990년대부터 미세 분진의 입경별 위해성을 집중적으로 연구하여 공기 역학적 직경이 10$\mu\textrm{m}$이하인 PM 10 기준과 더불어 PM 2.5 기준을 신설하였다. Automotive Seat Vibration Control with a Nonlinear Seat Cushion Model (비선형 시트 쿠션 모델을 고려한 자동차 시트의 진동 제어)

  • 이 논문에서는 반능동 진동 흡수기를 통합 시트/섀시 현가 장치에 확대, 적용하여 그 성능을 조사하였다. 통함 현가시스템의 성능분석을 위해 집중 인체질량과 함께 실험적으로 입증된 한 비선형 시트 쿠션 모델을 도입하였다. 또한 3 자유도 시트/섀시 현가시스템의 효과적인 진동제어를 위해 리아푸노브 바이스테이트 제어법칙을 사용하였다. 시뮬레이션결과 반능동 통합 현가장치는 시트 쿠션 모델과 관계없이 운전자의 승차감과 관련 있는 시트의 절대가속도 크기와 시트쿠션의 시트 트랙에 대한 상대변위를 상당히 감소시킬 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그러나, 주로 사용되어온 선형 쿠션 모델을 사용한 경우보다 비선형쿠션 모델을 사용한 경우의 제진성능이 약간 저조함을 알 수 있었다. 따라서, 자동차 시트 설계시 성능분석을 위해서는 실제의(비선형의) 시트 쿠션 특성을 적용해야 함을 알 수 있다.

  • In the present work a finite element formulation using dynamic explicit time integration scheme is used for numerical analysis of auto-body panel stamping processes. The lumping scheme is employed for the diagonal mass matrix and linearizing dynamic formulation. A contact scheme is developed by combining the skew boundary condition and direct trial-and-error method. In this work, for economic analysis the faster punch velocity and the mass scaling method are introduced. To investigate the effects of punch velocity and mass scaling, the various values of punch velocity and the various mass scalings are used for numerical analysis. Computations are carried out for analysis of complicated auto-body panel stamping processes such as forming of an oil pan and a fuel tank.
