Why Do Some People Become Poor? The Characteristics and Determinants of Poverty Entry (누가 왜 빈곤에 빠지는가? 빈곤진입자의 특성 및 요인)

  • By analyzing 1998~2008 Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS), this study examines socio-economic characteristics of people who become poor. The study also explores the reason why they are in the state of poverty. To find determinants affecting poverty entrance, discrete-time hazard models are applied. Major findings are as follows. The socio-economic characteristics driving people into poverty are in the middle way of the long-term poor and the non-poor, combining the characteristics of both groups. This implies that many cases of the newly poor tend to enter and exit from poverty repeatedly. Poverty entry rate was at a high level right after the economic crises, then was a downturn and remained fairly stable since 2000. However, the young, the high-educated, and even the professional are on the rise as a new poverty group. The major reason people become poor is temporary job loss. This factor is confirmed again by multi-variate analyses. In building anti-poverty policies, it is important to distinguish the long-term poor from the short-term poor. For the long-term poor, virtually the only affective policy will be income support. On the other hand, a labor-market strategy for jos security will be more effective for the short-term poor. The characteristics and determinants of poverty entry may affect poverty duration and exit in the future. Future research will be needed to investigate the relationship among these factors.

The Mediation Effects of Self-Concept Clarity and Perception of Emerging Adulthood in the Relationship between Perceived Parental Rearing Attitudes and Psychological Well-being of University students (성인진입기 대학생의 지각된 부모양육태도와 심리적 안녕감의 관계에서 자기개념명확성과 성인진입기 인식의 매개 효과)

  • The present study examined how the psychological well-being of young adults was affected by the perceived parental rearing attitudes and how self-concept clarity and the perceptions of emerging adulthood mediated this causal relationship based on Arnett's the theory of emerging adulthood. We specially focused on affectionate or rejective types of perceived parental rearing attitudes and possibility or instability perceptions of emerging adulthood. We performed survey research with 358 university students from six universities located in Seoul, and other cities in South Korea and analyzed collected data using SPSS 25.0 and SPSS Macro. As a result, we found correlational relationships between psychological well-being of emerging adulthood and other variables. Also, we found the mediating effect of the self-concept clarity in the relationship between the psychological well-being and the perceived parental attitudes: affectionate, rejective. However, we only found the mediating effect of the perceived possibility perception of emerging adulthood was significant in the relationship between the psychological well-being and affectionate parental rearing attitudes. Finally, we found a sequential mediation effect that the self-concept clarity and then perceived instability perception of emerging adulthood affected in the relationship between psychological well-being and rejective parental rearing attitudes of emerging adulthood. Based on results, implications and suggestions for counseling service and psychological education for university students faced emerging adulthood were discussed.

  • 목포항 진입수로 중 한곳인 불무기도 인근은 남북방향으로 통과 선박 및 목포항 입출항선박이 항행을 하고, 동서방향으로는 여객선 및 쾌속선이 항행을 하고 있다. 또한 이 구간에서 조업 및 항행중인 어선들이 많아 항행특성 파악이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 목포항 진입수역인 불무기도 부근에서 통항중인 선박들간의 CPA/TCPA를 분석하여 목포구 진입수로 항행특성 파악하여 통항선박의 위험도를 평가 하고자 한다.

  • 본고에서는 신규 통신사업자가 펨토셀 시장에 진입할 것인지 여부와 진입한다면 어떤 펨토셀 공유 기술(Spectrum Sharing Scheme)을 선택할 것인지를 장기적인 문제로 분석한다. 그리고 이와 관련된 신규 사업자의 가격 결정 전략과 사용자의 펨토셀 통신 서비스 가입 결정을 각각 중기, 단기적인 문제로 분석한다. 신규 사업자가 펨토셀 시장에 진입하여 독점사업자로 운영하는 경우와 기존의 통신사업자와 복점으로 경쟁하는 경우를 고려하고, 각 시나리오에서 이윤을 극대화하고자 하는 신규 통신사업자의 최적 의사결정에 대해 논한다.

Entry, Exit, and Aggregate Productivity Growth: Evidence on Korean Manufacturing (진입·퇴출의 창조적 파괴과정과 총요소생산성 증가에 대한 실증분석)

  • Using the plant level panel data on Korean manufacturing during 1990-98 period, this study tries to assess the role of entry and exit in enhancing aggregate productivity, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Main findings of this study are summarized as follows. First, plant entry and exit rates in Korean manufacturing seem quite high: they are higher than in the U.S. or several developing countries for which comparable studies exist. Second, in line with existing studies on other countries, plant turnovers reflect underlying productivity differential in Korean manufacturing, with the "shadow of death" effect as well as selection and learning effects all present. Third, plant entry and exit account for as much as 45 and 65 percent in manufacturing productivity growth during cyclical upturn and downturn, respectively. The findings of this study show that the entry and exit of plants has been an important source of productivity growth in Korean manufacturing. Plant birth and death are mainly a process of resource reallocation from plants with relatively low and declining productivity to a group of heterogeneous plants, some of which have the potential to become highly efficient in future. The most obvious lesson from this study is that it is important to establish policy or institutional environment where efficient businesses can succeed and inefficient businesses fail.

  • Taxi's queue for entering into taxi stand makes traffic jam and congestion around taxi stand. If we make that taxi waits in another place around taxi stand, and can approach to taxi stand when it gets in its turn, these traffic jam and congestion around taxi stand can be reduced. In this paper, we propose entry sequence operating system for taxi stand to reduce traffic jam and congestion around taxi stand. In this system, taxi driver can request his sequence number, and the system issues sequence number to driver. When it is time to approach to taxi stand due to issued sequence number, the proposed system notifies to taxi driver via taxi terminal. Taxi getting the proposed service can wait in another place around taxi stand, and can approach to taxi stand after receiving notify for approaching. Therefore, the proposed system in this paper can reduce traffic jam and congestion around taxi stand because it can reduce or get rid of taxi's queue around taxi stand. We implement the taxi stand approach sequence management system proposed in this paper for taxi stand installed in Chungju-Si, Chungbuk. We use Google Cloud service and Android platform for implementing.

The Effect of Single-Entry Metering and Platoon Metering on Mainstream under the Same Metering Rate with Pre-timed Metering (정주기식 동일 미터링율 제어에서 차량진입방식에 따른 효과분석)

  • Ramp metering control is the most representative strategy of uninterrupted flow control and management system. Ramp metering is to adjust vehicles entering an expressway in such a way that expressway mainline maintains flow stability by regulating ramp vehicles. The effect of two metering strategies, single-entry metering and platoon metering, on mainstream under the same metering rate with pre-timed metering are analyzed by micro-simulation. Platoon metering shows lower performance than single-entry metering under the same metering rate in terms of speed, density, and delay, causes earlier breakdown than single-entry metering. It indicates that the selection of metering type has critical importance as the flow of mainline is high.

  • 본 연구는 국내 Born Global Firm의 기술요인들이 해외신규시장 진입시기에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구모형을 제시하고, 국내 Born Global Firm을 대상으로 이에 대한 인과관계를 실증 분석하였다. 기존의 해외시장 진입시기에 관한 선행연구를 토대로 기술경쟁력, R&D 네트워크, R&D 정보력을 독립변수로 설정하고, 이러한 요인이 Born Global Firm의 해외신규시장 진입시기에 영향을 미칠 것이라는 가설을 설정하였다. 기존 선행연구를 통하여 기술경쟁력의 대용변수로 지적재산권, R&D 투자비용, R&D 전담기구 기능을, R&D 네트워크는 부서간 협력, 국내외 공동연구, R&D 정보력은 R&D 관련 정보 수집능력(경쟁업체 R&D 동향정보, 관련 주요연구자 정보 등), R&D 관련 정보 분석능력(기술이슈 및 트렌드 분석, 기술수준 분석 등), R&D 정보 활용능력(R&D 기획, 응용 분야 확장 등) 등을 사용하고 기업 내부요인과 수출관련에 대한 가설을 설정하였다. 특히, 해외시장 진입형태 중 FDI, 계약에 의한 해외시장진입 보다는 국내에서 가장 많은 해외진입 형태인 수출에 초점을 맞추었다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 국내 107개의 Born Global Firm을 대상으로 다중회귀분석 한 결과, Born Global Firm의 직접수출에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 요인으로는 지적재산권과, 부서간 협력, R&D 정보 활용능력 등으로 나타났다. 특히 기술이슈 및 트렌드 분석 정보력은 해외시장 진입시기를 앞당기는 것으로 나타났다.

Development of an Effectiveness Analysis Tool for Freeway Tollgate Entrance Control (고속도로 톨게이트 진입제어용 효과분석 툴의 개발)

  • This paper aims at developing an active expressway entrance control effectiveness analysis tool which operators can utilize and manage traffic based on current traffic condition. For this, after identifying the current problems of tollgate-based entrance policy being used, a new set of decision element such as congestion index, decision criteria for congestion, and congestion management unit has been proposed together with the procedure of newly developed tollgate control policy. Three key parts developed are traffic condition identification module, tollgate metering module, and travel speed calculation module. Some measures of effectiveness were also identified and the newly developed effectiveness analysis tool produced better result. According to classification of traffic condition by reference speed as 80km/h, the improved tollgate entrance procedure increased 21.5% in average travel speed compared with Do-Nothing case and also increased 8.8% compared with current entrance control method.

Analysis of Reentry Prediction of CZ-5B Rocket Body (창정 5B호 발사체의 재진입 시점 예측 분석)

  • This paper represents a reentry time prediction analysis of CZ-5B rocket-body in China, subject to analysis of the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee Reentry (IADC) reentry test campaign conducted in May 2021. Predicting the reentry of space objects is difficult to accurately predict due to the lack of accurate physical information about target, and uncertainty in atmospheric density. Therefore, IADC conducts annual re-entry campaigns to verify analysis techniques by each agency, and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute has also participated in them since 2015. Ballistic coefficient estimation method proposed to predict target reentry time and the result confirmed the difference of 73 seconds, which confirms the accuracy of the proposed method.
