  • There are currently many research papers on the knowledge, perceptions and actions of radiation-related staff, but hardly any papers on radiation major students in college who are to be staff members of radiation related jobs in the future. It is of course important to understand the perceptions of staff working on the lines and change their knowledge and perceptions, but in the long term it seems more efficient to understand those who are in the stage of being educated to be staff members-their knowledge and perception of radiation so that ultimately they can attain the right kind of understanding. Therefore the aim of this study is to grasp the pre-radiation staff's basic concept of radiation and space dose, their understanding of radiation safety based on this, and whether there is a change in their perception before and after the space dose measurement experiment; in the end this is to see if the space dose measurement experiment is effective in changing perception on radiation safety. This study took as its subject 64 students majoring radiation in college, I.e. pre-radiation staff members, and gauged their basic conceptualization of radiation, understanding of space dose, and understanding of radiation safety; in the X-ray room within the department the students were asked to measure space dose for themselves, so as to see whether there was a change in their understanding of radiation safety before and after the experiment, according to their understanding of the basic concept of radiation and of space dose. As a result of the space dose measurement experiment, students' increased basic knowledge of concept of radiation and understanding of the dangers of space dose were noteworthy, and accordingly their understanding of radiation safety became stricter and more conservative. In spite of this, their work ethic stayed in the lead of their understanding of radiation safety; this implies the need of a more departmentalized safety education program. Therefore instead of safety education that simply uses visual-audial material in a kind of lecture, I suggest here that there be a more experiential safety education program that enables learners to try out space dose measurement experiments for themselves, a work ethic education that aims for a conventional point of view towards radiation safety as well as a stern attitude.

The first part of this paper reviews the achievement literature that has used indigenous psychological analysis. The second part of this paper provides an empirical analysis of 482 students (primary=117, middle school=88, high school=72, and university=205) and 507 parents of the adolescents (fathers= 236, mothers=271). The open-ended questionnaire developed by Park and Kim (1999) was adopted for the study that asked the respondents to list the most painful experience, the person that was the most responsible for the failure, and the most important reason for the failure. The section on aspirations for the future asked the respondents to list the achievement that they would most likely to succeed, the person that they need assistance from, the type of support they need from the person, and the most important factor that would lead to them to success. The results indicate that for students the most painful failure was related to academic failure and for adults, it was related to family life. The person that was most responsible for the failure was reported by both samples be themselves. As for the most important factor that influenced their failure was a lack of self-regulation, such as a lack of effort and persistence. For the aspiration for future, students listed academic and occupational success and for adults listed harmonious family life as the most important. For social support, the adolescents listed their parents and adults listed their spouse as the person that they need assistance from. As for type of support, they listed emotional support to be the most important. As for the most important factor that would contribute to their success, majority of students and adults listed self-regulation. Based on these results and previous indigenous studies indicate, the following four conclusions could be drawn: (1) the emphasis of self-regulation as the most important reason for their past achievement, the future success and the lack of self-regulation for their failure; (2) the importance of receiving emotional support from family members; (3) the importance of educational aspiration and achievement for providing the basis of economic development; and 4) the importance goal of achieving harmonious family life.

  • The study aimed to determine the characteristics of human brains and to identify the students' aptitude and interests by developing and applying the program for recognizing students' desired future careers. A total of 135 students (59 elementary school children and 76 middle school adolescents) were surveyed for 2 days and 1 night. The study conclusions are as follows. First, the program proved effective in forming the constructive recognition for their future jobs because they could explore careers in the future and because they could raise their consciousness of perspectives on careers. Second, the program makes it possible to explore future jobs that are appropriate to them based on their aptitude and interests and to enhance their career competencies. Further research is required because more consideration is needed. First, the present research applied the same program to all student participants despite the differences in developmental levels. Therefore, future research needs to involve elements that reflect their distinct psychological proficiency levels. Second, to show the evidence of the effectiveness, further studies need to focus on diverse dependent variables that may influence the results other than their distinct psychological proficiency levels.

  • JejuHaenyeo(women diver) culture has been designated as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity(ICH) in 2016. However, the number of new Haenyeo is decreasing due to the hardships and difficulties of Haenyeo job, and the aging factor of Haenyeo is threatening the cultural preservation and inheritance. The study aims to analyze JejuHaenyeo's awareness on self, community and UNESCO ICH designation. The study further aims to check any significant difference in Haenyeo's self-awareness per age group to conclude an effective strategy for permanence of Haenyeo culture. 228 JejuHaenyeo were interviewed at "The 10th JejuHaenyeo World Festival" around the Jeju Haenyeo Museum in Gujwa-eup, Jeju-si. The test result shows the difference per age group on awareness on self and UNESCO ICH designation status. The younger the generation of Haenyeo it gets, the awareness on self and UNESCO ICH designation status of Haenyeo gets lowerer. Without an immediate improvement to supplement JejuHaenyeo's awareness on self and UNESCO ICH designation status, preservation and inheritance of JejuHaenyeo culture may not be an easy task in the future.

  • This study aimed to suggest basic data required to improve the awareness of physical therapy and examine physical therapists' awareness of the independent establishment of physical therapy clinics. To do so, 175 physical therapists in Gyeongnam areas were surveyed. Their general characteristics were statistically analyzed using SPSS 10.0, and their current workplace, working conditions and job satisfaction were analyzed using chi square distributions. The awareness of independent establishment was analyzed using the Excel program. The statistical significance (a) in this study was set at 0.05. Their interest in physical therapy was surveyed by gender, and 52.2% of males showed interest, higher than that of females. The satisfaction level of those who work in general hospitals with self-development was 32.8%, higher than that of those who work in clinics. To the question about independent establishment, 83.4% agreed to independent establishment, and 57.5% answered that the first thing to do before independent establishment is acquiring professional theoretical knowledge and clinical treatment skills. In terms of the areas of establishment, 45.2% answered physical therapy for the musculoskeletal system, and 39.7% answered that the awareness of doctors is the biggest obstacle to independent establishment. It will be necessary to ensure physical therapists acquire professional theoretical knowledge and clinical treatment skills and to improve awareness between physical therapists and doctors. In addition, it is considered that departments related to physical therapy need to be unified as a four-year course, and the independent establishment of physical therapy clinics is required to be legalized.
