Gravity measurement can determine the earth gravitational field, also is the fundamental to the research of earth gravitational field, geodesy and geodynamic, vertical movement of the crust, geoid surface, sea level and climate etc. Recently, National Geographic Information Institute (NGII) introduced FG-5 absolute gravity meter in order to lay a foundation for establishment of Absolute Gravity Network, and furthermore NGII plan to construct about 1,200 multi dimensional and function Unified Control Points(UCP) in nationwide. It will play an important role in development of high accuracy geoid model in South Korea. This paper explains the fundamental theory and method of relative gravity measurement, surveys the relative gravity of 21 stations using latest Scintrex CG-5 relative gravimeter. In addition, it calculates gravity values, compare and analysis gravity survey results using datum-free adjustment and weighted constraint adjustment. The results indicate show that datum-free and weighted constraint adjustment methods are available to determine high accuracy gravity achievement, datum-free method is more advantage than weighted constraint adjustment.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of Network-RTK(VRS) survey for applying to Ground Control Points(GCPs) survey required for mapping aerial photographs. Network-RTK has been serviced by National Geographic Information Institute since 2007. On the basis of the global coordinates system(ITRF2000), the coordinates of GCPs determined by Static GNSS survey with relative positioning techniques were regarded as accurate values. The coordinates of GCPs were also determined by Network-RTK survey using two kinds of receivers, and then they were converted into the global coordinates system(ITRF2000) by applying suitable geoid model and coordinate transformation. These coordinates of GCPs were compared with those from Static GNSS survey. The root mean squares error (RMSE) of coordinate differences between Network-RTK and Static GNSS was ${\pm}2.0cm$ in plane and ${\pm}7.0cm$ in height. Therefore, Network-RTK survey that enables single GNSS receiver to measure positions in short time is a practical alternative in positioning GCPs to either RTK survey that uses more than two sets of GNSS receivers or Static GNSS survey that requires longer observation time.

Real-time kinematic (RTK) GPS surveying which allows centimeter level accuracy of three-dimensional coordinates without post-processing has become recognized as a major advance in GPS technology. Employing On-The-Fly initialization technique, the RTK system can escape from cycle slip problems that have affected as a main obstacle factor in traditional kinematic and static approaches. The objective of this research was to evaluate accuracy and effectiveness of the RTK-GPS surveying. First, the continuous RTK observation of a base line was conducted for the purpose of finding out the repeatability of the RTK surveying and the results which were then compared against results from static surveying showed RMS errors of $\pm{3mm}\;and\;\pm{13mm}$ for their respective horizontal and vertical components. On a test network of 30 stations covering the small area, the results of RTK testing were compared against those from not only post-processing kinematic and rapid-static surveyings but conventional surveyings and also the efficiency of RTK were analyzed. In addition, geoid heights which were derived by combination of GPS and spirit leveling about all of the points within the network were compared against those derived by the PNU95 and EGM96 models respectively.

The hybrid geoid model should be determined by fitting the gravimetric geoid to the geometric geoid which were presented the local vertical level. Therefore, it is necessary to find firstly the optimal scheme for improving the accuracy of gravimetric geoid in order to development the high-precision hybrid geoid model. Through finding the optimal scheme for determining the each part of gravimetric geoid, the most accurate gravimetric geoid model in Korea will be developed when the EIGEN-CG03C model to degree 360, 4-band spherical FFT and RTM reduction methods were used for determining the long, middle and short-frequency part of gravimetric geoid respectively. Finally, we developed the hybrid geoid model around Korea by correcting to gravimetric geoid with the correction term. The correction term is modelled using the difference between GPS/Levelling derived geoidal heights and gravimetric geoidal heights. The stochastic model used in the calculation of correction term is the LSC technique based on second-order Markov covariance function. 503 GPS/Levelling data were used to model the correction term. The degree of LSC fitting to the final hybrid geoid model in Korea was evaluated as 0.001m ${\pm}0.054m$.

In 2013, NGII(National Geographic Information Institute) has developed and provided the KNGeoid13(Korean National Geoid Model 2013) to support the fundamental computation of GNSS-derived orthometric height. In this study, the adjusted ellipsoidal height, the sum of geoidal height and height by the leveling, is applied to calculate the GNSS-derived orthometric height without the local bias, based on GNSS static surveying and KNGeoid13. The mean of errors in GNSS-derived orthometric heights could be verified with the leveling data, which was actually less than 0.5 cm with using the adjusted ellipsoidal heights, but 3 cm by calculating differences between ellipsoidal heights and geoidal heights. By analyze the accuracy of GNSS-derived orthometric height depending on the duration of observation, we could realized 95% of data shows less than 4 cm accuracy, when the GNSS survey conducting for 4 hours spread over two days, but while the case of GNSS survey conducting for 4 hours and 2 hours respectively, resulted in 95% of data less than 5cm level of accuracy. Also, if the ambiguity is fixed, less than 10cm of accuracy could be obtained at 95% of data for only 30 minutes GNSS survey over a day. Following the study, we expected that the height determination by GNSS and geoid models can be used in the public benchmark surveying.

The calculation of astronomic latitude and longitude have been carried by astrolabe, theodolite. Conventional procedures to determine it require clear weather conditions, time high cost. So we need more effective method to decide them. The objective here is to present method to computate astronomic latitude and longitude by mixing GPS observation result and geodetic height. Also to decide geodetic height we used GPS/leveling, DMA(n=m=180) and OSU91A(n=m=360) methods. Compared to conventional procedures we could obtain astronomic latitude and longitude using GPS by $1{\sim}3'$ difference. If the precise geoid model of Korea will be developed, we can compute astronomic latitude and longitude effectively using GPS observation only.

Recently, the velocity of sea-level rising has increased due to the global warming and the natural disasters have been occurred many times. Therefore, there are various demands for the integration of vertical reference datums for the ocean and land areas in order to develop a coastal area and prevent a natural disaster. Currently, the vertical datum for the ocean area refers to Local Mean Sea Level(LMSL) and the vertical datum for the land area is based on Incheon Mean Sea Level(IMSL). This study uses 31 points of Tidal Gauge Bench Mark (TGBM) in order to compares and analyzes the geometric heights referring LMSL, IMSL, and the nationally determined geoid surface. 11 points of comparable data are biased more than 10 cm when the geometric heights are compared. It seems to be caused by the inflow of river, the relocation of Tidal Gauge Station, and the topographic change by harbor construction. Also, this study analyze the inclination of sea surface which is the difference between IMSL and LMSL, and it shows the inclination of sea surface increases from the western to southern, and eastern seas. In this study, it is shown that TGBM can be used to integrate vertical datums for the ocean and land areas. In order to integrate the vertical datums, there need more surveying data connecting the ocean to the land area, also cooperation between Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Administration and National Geographic Information Institute. It is expected that the integrated vertical datum can be applied to the development of coastal area and the preventative of natural disaster.

The accuracy of the upward continuation is assessed through the gravity modeling using an ultra-high degree spherical harmonic expansion. The difficulties in the numerical calculation of Legendre function with ultra-high degree, underflow and/or overflow, is successfully resolved in 128 bit calculation scheme. Using the generated Legendre function, the gravity anomaly with spatial resolution of $1'{\times}1'$ on the geoid is calculated. The generated gravity anomaly is degraded and extracted with various noise levels and data intervals, then upward continuation is applied to each data sets. The comparison between the upward continued gravity disturbances and the directly calculated from the spherical harmonics showed that the accuracy on the direct method was significantly better than that of Poisson method. In addition, it is verified that the denser and less noised gravity data on the geoid generates better gravity disturbance vectors at an altitude. Especially, it is found that the gravity noise level less than 5mGal, and the data interval less than 2arcmin is necessary for next generation precision INS navigation which requires the accuracy of 5mGal or better at an altitude.

Gravity anomalies were recovered on a $5'\times{5'}$grid using the sea surface height data obtained from the combination of Geosat, ERS-1, Topex/Poseidon altimeter data around Korean Peninsula bounded by latitude between $30^\circ{N}\;and\;50^\circ{N}$ and longitude $120^\circ{E}\;to\;140^\circ{E.}$ In order to recover the gravity anomalies from SSH(Sea Surface Height), inverse FFT technique was applied. The estimated gravity anomalies were compared with gravity anomalies measured by shipboard around Korean Peninsula. In comparison with the differences of gravity anomaly between measured data and altimeter data, the mean and the standard deviation were found to be -0.51 mGal and 13.48 mGal, respectively. In case of comparison between the measured data and the OSU91A geopotential model, the mean and the standard deviation were found to be 11.93 mGal and 19.19 mGal, respectively. The comparison of gravity anomalies obtained from the OSU91A geopotential model and the altimeter data was carried out. The results were mean of 5.30 meal and standard deviation of 19.62 mGal. From the results, we could be concluded that the gravity anomalies computed from the altimeter data is used to the geoid computation instead of the measured data.
