  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of changes in pain on the autonomic nervous system and brain waves after inducing delayed-onset muscle soreness(DOMS). Based on voluntary participation, 28 participants with induced-DOMS were randomly divided into control(non-treatment, n=14) and experiment groups(transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and kinesio taping, n=14). Intervention was performed from first day to fifth days after the onset of DOMS. Measurements were performed using the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), Heart Rate Variability(HRV), and brain wave before DOMS induction, 24 hours after, fifth day after, and eighth day after. According to the study results, when DOMS occurred, the activity of the sympathetic nervous system was increased or the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system was suppressed, and reduction of pain due to interventions showed the opposite activity. A decreased in alpha was seen during pain, but was not significant. These results will help develop and study pain management and treatment strategies.

  • This study was conducted to apply microcurrents of $500{\mu}A$ effective for ATP generation to leg muscles to which delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) had been induced in order to examine whether the microcurrent stimulation was effective for gait improvement. Forty subjects were randomly assigned to an experimental group of 20 subjects and a placebo group of 20 subjects. Microcurrents were applied immediately after inducing DOMS and 24 hours and 48 hours thereafter and changes in the center of pressure (COP), cadence, and affected stance phases were measured. According to the results of the measurement, changes in the COP, cadence, and affected stance phases at 48 hours after the induction of DOMS were statistically significant compared to the values before the induction. The COP of the experimental group became statistically significantly lower and the ratio of affected stance phases of the experimental group became statistically significantly higher compared to the placebo group at 48 hours after the induction of DOMS. Therefore, $500{\mu}A$ microcurrents showed effects for gait improvement by promoting the recovery and healing of damaged muscles.

  • We investigated to compare the effects of a low intensity eccentric exercise and dynamic stretching on symptoms of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). The eighteen women who had not participated in a regular exercise programme for the lower extremities in the previous five months were randomly assigned to one of three experimental groups: control group, a low intensity eccentric exercise group and dynamic stretching group. We measured the joint range of motion (ROM), maximal voluntary isometric exercise (MVIC), muscle soreness rating scale and ultrasound image measurement before eccentric exercise inducing DOMS, and 24, 48, and 72 hours after an eccentric exercise inducing DOMS. The exercise programme in a low intensity eccentric exercise group and dynamic stretching group were respectively performed 3 times a week for 4 weeks before eccentric exercise inducing DOMS. There was significantly different between the groups in muscle soreness rating scale and MVIC (p<.05). However, there was not significantly different between groups in ultrasound image measurement and ROM (p<.05). These results suggest that a low intensity eccentric exercise group and dynamic stretching group effectively reduced muscle soreness rating scale out of the symptoms of DOMS. A low intensity eccentric exercise group may be an effective improvement than dynamic stretching group in muscle soreness rating scale.

The study was to investigate the Spontaneous therapy, TENS and Ice therapy of Biceps brachii after induction of DOMS (자연치유와 경피신경전기자극치료, 그리고 냉치료가 지연성근육통이 유발된 위팔두갈래근의 통증과 근력 및 근활성도에 미치는 영향)

  • After the recent COVID-19 outbreak, more and more people are paying attention to health care. Many people feel uncomfortable in life due to muscle pain after sports or exercise as a hobby and often take a break from exercise. After exercising for a long time or exercising excessively, pain appears throughout the body within 24 to 48 hours after exercise. This pain is called delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). In this study, the effectiveness of the pain relief of delayed onset myalgia was verified by using a high-frequency pain therapy device that generates deep heat. EMG was measured before and after pain treatment at ordinary times, RMS values were obtained through analysis, statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS program, and it was judged to be statistically significant. In addition, statistical analysis of the RMS value between normal and after pain treatment was conducted to confirm that there was no significance, and to confirm how much it returned to normal after pain treatment. In addition, since the standards for pain are different for each person even if the size of the same pain is the same, the NRS questionnaire for the size of pain was conducted, and the size of pain felt by the subjects was analyzed using the SPSS program and statistical significance was obtained. Therefore, as a result of this study, the high-frequency pain therapy device generated deep heat in the pain area to raise the temperature, and expanded the arteries and capillaries to increase blood flow, thereby increasing blood circulation and metabolism, and alleviating the pain of delayed onset muscle pain.

  • The purpose of this study was to after induced delayed onset muscle soreness, the purpose of this study is to present the effective way on skin temperature changes and cold pain for 14 subjects during to applied with only Cold-jet stream and Cold-jet stream with infra red. 14 healthy men and women who delayed onset muscle soreness eccentric contractions induced by exercise and then the biceps alone was applied to the Cold-jet stream. We measured the time that skin temperature fall from room temperature to $10^{\circ}C$(first period), the time rewarmed from $10^{\circ}C$ to $20^{\circ}C$(second period), the time fall again to $10^{\circ}C$(third period) and the time rewarmed again to $20^{\circ}C$(fourth period). Cold-jet stream with infrared combination therapy was performed with the same method. Results of this study were 1st and 2nd experimental cooling experiments in the to fall to $10^{\circ}C$ Cold-jet stream with infrared combination therapy than in the Cold-jet stream was longer(p<.05). At second period, It took longer in Cold-jet stream with infrared rewarmed than Cold-jet stream to rewarm skin(p<.05). Cold-jet stream with infrared combination therapy than Cold-jet stream had less incidence of cold pain(p<.05). Thickness of biceps brachii were found significant difference related measurment each group was consistent. In this study, Cold-jet stream with infrared combination therapy more effective than Cold-jet stream in reduced cold pain and lowering skin temperature. • The purpose of this study was to investigate the spontaneous therapy, TENS(transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) and ice therapy after induction of DOMS(delayed onset muscle soreness) through application of eccentrically exercise in ralation to biceps brachii muscle of opposite-dominance. And to explain this, we analyzed VAS(visual analogue scales), peak torque, RMS(roots mean square) when exercising elbow joint. The subjects were 30 adults without any physical defect. Subjects were divided into three groups that spontaneous therapy, TENS therapy and ice therapy after DOMS induction, choosen movement could get the maximal peak torque in angular velocity of $60^{\circ}$/sec, and mearsured peak torque, RMS and VAS. 1. The VAS was significantly decreased after 3 days application of TENS than other groups(p<.05). 2. The peak torque was significantly increased after 3 days application of TENS than other groups(p<.05). 3. The RMS was significantly increased after 3 days application of TENS than other groups(p<.05). This study showed that TENS therapy application were effective treatment strategy on DOMS than spontaneous therapy and ice therapy. Therefore, it could be considered as a treatment method in the patients with DOMS.

  • The aim of this study was to develop a Pulsed Magnetic Fields(PMFs) system which can produce effects locally and simulate muscular tissues equally. To evaluate the PMFs system we caused DOMS(Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) to subjects in biceps of the arm. Then, we stimulated acupoint HT2 using PMFs(20 minutes) and TEAS(20 minutes) for 2 days. The other subjects did not stimulate. Then we checked body surface temperature in biceps of the arm. All subjects had an asymmetrical body surface temperature in biceps after exercise(Non-stimulation group=$2.00{\pm}1.16^{\circ}C$, TEAS group=$1.73{\pm}0.52^{\circ}C$, PMFs group=$1.48{\pm}0.51^{\circ}C$). After 1st stimulation all subjects had decreased temperature differences(Non-stimulation group=$1.37{\pm}0.71^{\circ}C$, TEAS group=$1.08{\pm}0.43^{\circ}C$, PMFs group=$1.23{\pm}0.15^{\circ}C$). PMFs group had a symmetry body surface temperature after 24 hours($0.05{\pm}0.06^{\circ}C$) and TEAS group had that after 48 hours($0.1{\pm}0.08^{\circ}C$). Non-stimulation group did not recovery after 48 hours($0.37{\pm}0.06^{\circ}C$). Therefore, PMFs on acupoint had an therapeutic effect in DOMS.
